I was against the Iraq war from the get-go. Have been ever since. But these days I’m not sure that McCain’s idea is the worst. I think he’s been wrong all along but now I think his view isnt’ entirely stupid. I am not sure that withdrawal is the best option these days. I don’t like the fact that we are in this position, but regardless we are in it. We have to see it to the best conclusion possible. It pisses me off that lives were wasted and that money was spent but there’s nothing that can undo it.
Right now deaths are going down. There appears to be much less violence than before. I don’t think, however that it was a good idea, regardless of the results. Unless Iraq somehow turns into Switzerland in the next year at least. I don’t think it was worth it, but I do think that it isn’t completely unsalvageable either. How will Iraq be in a year? If it continues on this path of improvement then I’d be even less concerned.
That’s why I can consider a vote for McCain - if it came down to it. But I disagree with a few of his other policies… so either way, if HRC is the nominee, it’ll be a hard vote for me in November.
All the bad stuff’s in the past, ehh?
It’s a new dawn for America, and you can vote to preserve power for the party that mislead us into Iraq, without even a twinge of conscience.
Good luck explaining your ‘opposition’ to the Republican’s next war.
Hey, just remember, Obama doesn’t have to actually get the majority of votes in the primary to win- the Democratic party uses superdelegates to award almost 20% of the nomination, which is not very democratic but could work out favorably if the party officials see that Clinton may be unelectable. Then again, the Clinton entrenchment in the Democratic Party structure could screw Obama through this process. It’s interesting, anyway.
I’m for Barak Obama for President of the United States!
I’m a white male, 55 years old, military veteran, middle-of-the-road politically and I think that Barak Obama would be a gteat president!
I’m also a kitemaker, and I’d love to make one for Hillary for her to go fly!!
(But if she’s the Democratic Party nominee for president, I’ll vote for her over any Republican Party presidential candidate any day!) Then I’ll make a kite for THAT person to go fly!!!
And I’ll happily vote for Barak. What I can’t understand is these whippersnappers, genX, gen0, whatever, who hold up Obama as the light and hope of ‘their’ generation, and then turn-about and say they’ll endorse a friggin Dinosaur, if they don’t get their way.
Are you a whippersnapper who sees Obama as the one true hope of your generation? Will you pick McCain over Hillary mostly because you’re feeling spiteful about not getting your way on Obama?
There’s lots of reasons not to want to vote for Hillary, maybe even a few that make McCain a reasonable alternative. IMHO, a fit of pique isn’t one of them.
Yes and no. I don’t trust her. Based on her manner of campaigning and such. That’s not pique, but I understand from your recent posts that if I don’t agree with you I am too young to understand anything or too old to get out of my chair to vote in November… or the primary.
~ or ~
Oh. K. Yes… I see that not voting for HRC would be immature of me. And being upset at the manner in which her campaign has distorted the truth, lied, and inserted race in ways that DO NOT benefit the nation would be…
immature of me. Whereas your last few replies have been mature and reasoned?
I have this naive thought that, for the most part, any one who wants to be President should do so because they want to help. I don’t think hurting the nation on the way, or swift boating, will benefit discourse in any way.
HRC I cannot trust and I really do believe the stuff that is said, at this point. Not because I hate her, or women, but because of the way she’s conducted this campaign.
But… if you want to minimize my opinions based on some ad hominem AND appeal to authority, because you are incredibly more enlightened… more power to you.
Let me know when you want to discuss this like the adult you purport to be?
The contrast between Republicans and Democrats this year reminds me of the situation in the Middle East with the Republicans being Arabs and Democrats being Israelis (at least the situation as whined about by the Israelis).
Like the Arabs, Republicans are seen as “third world” and thus nothing they do or say is beyond the pale. They can be the most regressive, race-baiting theocrats and nobody even blinks. It’s expected because that’s what Republicans do. Of course you can expect Huckabee to proudly proclaim that he doesn’t believe in evolution and Romney and McCain to race to the xenophobic bottom on who hates brown people more.
The Democrats are held to a much higher standard - being the industrialized, civilized party. Any small thing that’s even being suggested evokes outrage. But there’s no intrinsic reason why one political party’s races should be more pure than anothers.
Why would you anyone not vote for the candidate whose spouse pointed out that Obama wasn’t the first black candidate to win South Carolina and instead pick the guy who opening mocked his opponents in debates and protested that he was not soft on illegal immigration because he didn’t want to deport every illegal identified.
As a matter of fact, the reason why every one might be so outraged at all the terrible, terrible things the Clintons are doing is because Obama’s people are pretty good at this game as well.
I’d rather vote for Obama than Billary, but I only need to look at the ages of the supreme justices and realize that even if Billary hurts the feelings of Obama supporters this country really needs a democratic president.
Let me make it clear…I voted for Kerry last year after being a Dean supporter. That I had no problem with.
But I have a line. There is a line which if any candidate crosses makes them reprehensible to me and ineligible for my vote. Bill and Hillary crossed that line.
Bill’s race-baiting was the final straw. I was pretty sure I couldn’t vote for them before but now I’m sure. It means one thing and one thing only to me. “We are going to win and at any cost”
It seems so clear to me now that, as I had always suspected, Bill and Hillary are only in this for their personal benefit and aggrandizement.
As said earlier, I can’t stand a president anymore that I believe is 100 percent full of shit. That’s the simple truth. They have taken Obama’s attempt to take the high road and good faith politicking and shoved it in his face to his detriment. He’s remained mostly above the fray.
This isn’t about me whining about my candidate not winning. I’d take Edwards easily. This is about excising a very cancerous part of our politics. That is DLC third-way bullshit. We need real democrats in charge, and I’m ready to wait another 4 years than have to wait another 8.
One thing this week has done, it’s ended my 7 years of nostalgia for Clinton’s presidency. I knew that I hated the guy’s politicking sleaziness, but I’d forgotten how much, being confronted with Bush’s example. This sure has reminded me.
Haven’t we learned anything? Well that’s a very good question. We would be a lot better off by going with the strongest candidate to start with. In 2004 I don’t think it was Kerry. I think it was Clark or Edwards. Instead we got Kerry based on…well what was it? A bunch of old people felt he had the best background to challenge bush despite the fact that he didn’t inspire emotion out of anyone.
We are of course on the verge of doing it again with HRC. Electing the least inspiring leader possible. Face it people, inspiring candidates get people to the polls. That’s a simple fact.
I am not going to vote for HRC, not even if New York is in play. I say this as a very solid liberal. Hillary is simply a pill too bitter to swallow. I’m sick of warming up to utterly useless candidates simply because they have a D next to their name, only to get my hopes dashed. I won’t do it again.
There are plenty of people like me, so remember that when you cast your vote for Hillary.
Why the fuck do people even like her? Seriously? I’d love to hear some people outline some examples of her experience in leadership. I haven’t heard one good fucking example. That’s all she has anyway, right?
ETA: Did she fucking vote yes on the Iran thing too? JESUS!
Fuck that! I’ll vote Communist before I’ll ever cast a vote for that witch. McCain’s my choice if he gets the Republican nod and Obama isn’t the Dems choice. Other than those two, forget it.
The question you need to answer is: Who will McCain put on the supreme court? Who would Hilary put on? In case you haven’t noticed, the current supreme court is busy undoing civil rights and protections against corporate dishonesty.
The responses on this thread certain prove that old adage true: Democrats fall in love, Republicans fall in line.
