The Contents Of My Pantry... The MMP

I said cheesecake. **Spats, ** if you leave right now, maybe you can make it here in time for the next one.

No dog. No plans to ever get a dog. Can’t stand how dogs follow me around the house and fawn.

Yes, I got my Official Curmudgeon Certificate last week. How did you know?
I welcome anyone into my bed, as long as you have reasonable hygiene (which includes teeth) and don’t snore. Everything else is negotiable.

Off to be called a motherf***ker again at work! and all because the kitchen was late with the trays! These are such exciting career ops for me…

How coincidental - I came to post about my morning toilette with my pack - i.e. Bernie and Brandy. When I finally dragged my sad self out of bed and headed to the bathroom, I hadn’t even gotten seated when *both * of them were nudging up against my legs looking for skritches! It’s official - I can’t pee in peace in my own house.

Fortunately, Bernie has been conditioned to leave when I reach for the roll of paper, so I did that right quick and she left me alone. Great, thinks I, I can brush my teeth now. No such luck. I know other critters do this, but it’s a first for Miss Brandy - she leapt to the sink and yelled a me. I turned the water on at a trickle, and Her Majesty drank. And drank. And drank. When at last her thirst was slaked, I got to tend to my oral hygiene.

And yes, the critter waterbowl is full. Apparently, it’s not fresh enough for Herself.

Breakfast is in the oven - I finally remembered to buy some more canned peaches, and I built the french toast casserole last night. We should be chowing down in about 30 minutes. **FCD ** wants to go work on the boat today - duh - but I need to unload the van. Last night, he backed it up to the basement door and left it. Neither of us had the energy to unload anything. Once breakfast is done, I’ll get to work. If he helps me, then I’ll go to the boat with him. If not, I’ll possibly join him later. We’ll see how that goes.

Without a doubt, weekends are way too short. When I’m Queen of the Universe, that, too, shall change.

I vote you become Queen of the Universe today!!! Save my weekend!

Do you know any older students who might have notes from weekly lectures, Spats?

Cheer up, rigs. The end of your nursing career is right around the corner.

Glad to have company in the dying fridge department, dogb. One of the joys of being a homeowner is that I have to deal with fridge replacement myself. Of course, that’s not much different from the last place I rented. I had a hopeless landlady and wound up taking home improvements out of the rent. (She was fine with that and wrote me a nice recommendation when I bought the house, but that was the only positive aspect.) At least I don’t have to wait till tomorrow to shop.

I just surfed online for fridges to see if I could order the one that I saw at Best Buy the other day online and be done with it. They didn’t even have that brand online. What’s up with that? Found the same fridge at Sears, but for $300 more. It’s a small refrigerator (15 cubic feet), but for some reason it’s more expensive than larger ones. I don’t get that either. It’s not like it has incredible frills. I’m not re-plumbing to get water to the fridge, so I’m just looking for your basic refrigerator.

Any brand recommendations or non-recommendations?

We’ll see what I wind up with. Well, gotta get moving, church is in an hour and then there’s gardening stuff to do there for an hour and then there’s glamorous fridge-shopping.

Good morning one and all!

Yesterday was quite busy and we had a lovely evening visiting with our friends.

FCM, it sounds like your Craft Fair went quite well. I can’t wait to see pics.

So, the toilet saga continues. Who knew getting flapper for a freakin’ toilet would be such a difficult thing? We went to Lowes and I had what I was sure was the correct flapper in my hand. Hubby said “Noooooo, that one seems cheap, lets get this one”. I was dubious, but okay, I’ll let him be “The Man”. After picking a few other items while at Lowes, we went to Office Depot where I found a messenger bag for the son, and hubby went to Comp USA because they were having a sale. He ended up buying Texas Hold 'Em game console for $26.00 bucks.

We came home, putted around the house, and I swept our front porch and walkway. I also removed some weeds that had the temerity to try and grow in the seams of the driveway. Anyway, as I was sweeping and stuff, the hubby came out and said he’d bought the wrong flapper. I had to tell him “I told you so”. So, he runs off to get a different flapper and our friends pulled onto the street. I tried to help them install their Seagate External Drive for their Mac. The problem was, the new drive comes formatted in a FAT32 file format (Windows OS compatible) and they’re running a Mac OS. No problem says I, we’ll just initialize and format the new drive. The instructions are right here.

Yeah, right. That didn’t work, because I couldn’t find which version of the operating system they were using. I thought they were using some numbered version of Mac OS, but then hubby half of the friends came downstairs and told me, that he was using Tiger. I couldn’t even find a file called that so I could get to Disk Utilities, etc. I am not at all familiar with Apple/Mac products. At any rate, they had to take off to let their new rescue grayhound run and play. He’s such a cutie and friendly too. Hubby invited the friends over for sketti’s and meatballs and to play our new console game. So, they came and ate and we played the game until 11:00 pm.

Guess what my hubby has to do today. Yup, get a different flapper, because the second flapper he bought doesn’t fit either. He still didn’t buy the one I had in my hand originally. I couldn’t POSSIBLY be right about anything, now could I?

So, for now, I’m keeping the water to the toilet shut so it doesn’t keep running. We’ll just have to use the upstairs bathrooms.

**gt, ** good luck with the fridge and early delivery thing. How are you keeping your food safe and cold? I’m sitting here imagining you living out of coolers.

Ergh. Fell asleep after five, woke up at eight.

Room is all fuzzy.
What do I want for lunch?

I’m back from church. I’m not planning on doing much beyond nap and watch football today.

FCM, I have the same problem with my pack. I’m glad I have a tiny bathroom, so I can hold the door shut with my foot when I go.

rigs, the joy of a dog is that he/she will never call you motherf***ker because they are out of kibble, or you have to work late again.

gt, my fridge is starting to work again. “Dear landlord, can I have a new fridge? The old one is playing mind games with me.”

LiLi, the room is all fuzzy? Did the cat fall asleep on your face again?

I think I’m going to start charging rental fees for my Dyson. My neighbor just called and asked if she could borrow it today. She and a few other people have borrowed it several times.

I’m kidding, of course. I’d never charge. I’m not a meanie.

Maybe you should name your fridge Christine. Just hope she doesn’t leave in the middle of the night to wreak havoc on perceived enemies.

I know that go-to-the-bathroom-accompanied routine well. The cat often does, but she just comes in and yells at me, doesn’t interrupt the proceedings. Rusty the Idiot Golden Retriever will also come into the bathroom with me, but only when there’s a storm going on, and he cowers curled up on the floor. Problem is, the bathroom is very small and he’s very large. I just wish he’d learn to go hide in the bathtub when he’s scared like so many dogs do. Oh well, at least we don’t have storms that often around here; in New Orleans I felt like I was living with a toddler all over again, never ever being allowed to go to the bathroom by myself.

We’re having a quiet day. The dogs are snoring because they went to the Best Place in the World this morning, and I’ve just been telling myself to get some work done so I won’t have to do any when whiterabbit is here, but thus far without much success. I’m feeling a serious lack of motivation. Oh well, I’m sure things will improve eventually. There’s nothing like deadline pressures to motivate one!

LiLi, your pronouns went missing again!

drive-by post …

I have had a crazy week and weekend, and I am pleased to read that at least somebody was out having fun or being productive! Today was a milestone - my boss came back from India and for once I was the one piling work up on her desk for her to do! That felt really good, but too bad it won’t last!

I am sooooo hanging out for the end of the first trimester - I am fed up with being tired, hormonal and mildly queasy all the time! Got my next scan in a couple of weeks, but going to Saudi for a business trip between now and then. JOY!

Happy Sunday all!

Toilet flapper update. Hubby came home this morning with the flapper I had originally picked out yesterday. Installed it…it worked! He’s calling it dumb luck; I know it wasn’t. I actually PAID ATTENTION to what the original one looked like and based my choice on that.

He’s grrring away. He HATES it when I’m right.

For those who were wondering, our breakfast casserole was yummerrific, as usual. The van is all unloaded, except for the stuff that has to go back to my mother. I’ll probably take that on Sat. **FCD ** will be going to Phoenix to deliver a satellite so I’ll have the weekend to kill. May as well kill it at Mom’s, right?

We went down to the boat and without going into too much detail, it did not go well. He’s at the hardware store for something. I emptied, then refilled the water tanks, with bleach water, again, because the water still smelled funky. Then we came home. I’ve got a load of jeans in the washer - they’re probably done. We had leftover pizza for lunch. I’m about to start on the MMP for tomorrow, plus I get to do dishes and some more laundry and maybe even run the vacuum. Will the fun never end??

Onward and downward to the laundry room. <insert fanfare here>

Taters, spray vinegar on those obnoxious crack-weeks. Kills 'em dead!

MBG, please give Cuervo some ear scritches from me. He is a handsome cat!

FCM, are you going to be posting pictures of the leftovers for sale to Dopers? I am very interested. I need a FCM Original to call my very own. All the Cool Kids have them!

Went to a friends for pot roast - she had been out veggie pickin’ and we had fresh snap beans and fresh fried okra to go with it. I fried a few carrots, which got me a funny look, but she admitted they were good. She doesn’t eat okra and was picking it to give to her mother or me, and picked HUGE pods. These are so big they’re too tough even to stew! There were just enough small ones to make it worth it to get out the cornmeal. I gave her a lesson on okra picking and we are going Tuesday for more beans and okra.

I am not a big NASCAR fan, but the friends I was visiting are, so we watched the race. Last season I picked a driver to be my favorite (everyone else had one!) and the one I picked won his first Busch series race that night. So #9, Kasey Kahne, is my driver. He made it to the “race for the Chase” last night - whatever the hell that is. Something about total points for the year. In making the last spot he knocked out Tony Stewart, who is the favorite driver of another of the guests. I got to celebrate and taunt!!

I am going to dinner tonight with my library director friend who is having trouble at work. When she took over as director of the library system she hurt a few feelings because she had this odd notion that people who work in customer service should actually provide it, and that people who expect paychecks should do something to earn them. So some of the staff members aren’t too fond of her. I would love to work for her, personally.

Cats everywhere in here! I spent the night at my friends house because I do not drink and drive and there was drinkin’ going on. When I came in you would think I had been gone a month! All sorts of kitty noises about how I had deserted then and how I was an unfit mother. It is hard to pet 8 cats at one time. How in the world did they get so spoiled?

Well, poo! I loaded my jeans into the dryer. I didn’t turn the dryer on. So now I have wet clothes in the washer *and *in the dryer. eeeesh.

But the MMP is ready for posting in the morning. It’s a long one, so have your coffee and donut ready before you open it.

I hate when I forget to turn the dryer on. It just messes with the whole momentum of laundry day. It’s not earth shattering or anything, it just messes things up. Well, for me, at least.

I brought my Dyson over to my friend’s house. She offered to give me money for using it again. I told her no way. Secretly, I’d like her to come clean my house top to bottom. Her house is always SPOTLESS. I wish mine looked like that everyday. I get all side-tracked and annoyed, so I never get as much done as I’d like.

Hubby is cuirrently working out. He claims he’s going to wash my rig and then take it down to get the oil changed. We’ll see. It’s nearly two o’clock now. First, he’ll want to sit at his 'puter and play some more of one of his games. Then he’ll become engrossed in the game. Whatever, we all need down time.

I should do some laundry. Blech.

Well, I’m back from church, plant-potting, and fridge-hunting. I feel so accomplished.

We give plants away to students during welcome week and this was the designated potting weekend. (This gives them a bit over a week to feel at home in the larger pots.) Did a little circuit of the garden with one of the newest pastoral team members who actually has an interest in gardening. Looks like we might get a little support for some landscape improvements.

So, FCM, have you ever posted your french toast casserole recipe? It sounds yum.

Clever strategy to pick out a favorite driver even if you’re not actually a fan. I tend to read sports headlines so that I know dribs and drabs of important sports information since I live in a sports-crazy town. I think they throw you out if you don’t know what happened to the football Buckeyes (they won, 24-7 over Texas, which was a big hairy deal; one of their senators is now going to eat Ohio stuff on Monday). Can you sense my dedication to all things **scarlet **and gray? (Sez the girl who owns a red Michigan State sweatshirt she tends to wear on fall Fridays just to freak people out.)

Well, I know you’re just dying to hear about my appliance-buying adventures. First stop was a place called ApplianceSmart. They sell slightly defective (dinged) appliances and leftovers. They had a really nice (for me) fridge on special. Nothing fancy, but much better than what I’ve been living with for seven years. I decided to replace the stove while I was at it. They had a very nice range with an extra-large oven and some kind of patented design that makes sure the heat is even when you put in more than one cookie sheet. I don’t use my oven much, but when I do, it tends to be for cookies, so I thought that was useful. So the harvest gold is being banished from my kitchen. Well, as soon as I replace the vent hood (next weekend, I hope). So I bought at the first stop. I’d already browsed appliances last week at Best Buy and looked at prices online, so I knew I was getting a good deal. Wound up spending less than $1000 for the whole shebang, including delivery and installation of the gas range. Won’t know till tomorrow when they’ll be delivering, but it should be Wednesday or Thursday (which is good, since I can’t come home during the day tomorrow or Tuesday.

Oh…and I’m temporarily doing without cold things, Taters. I stashed some veggies and eggs at work so that I’ll have fresh stuff for lunches and my expensive free-range eggs will survive. A bunch of what I had in the fridge was just in there so it would be cold, so that’s just waiting for the replacement fridge. And I’ll just have to live without milk for three days. Fortunately, the fridge and freezer were about as empty as they get. I’d done a big cleanout last weekend and figured we’d go food shopping when Faraway Best Friend was here. We wound up doing bagels and coffee/tea for brunch and eating dinner out, so we never actually had to go to the store. I just had a few lunch veggies that I’d bought on Wednesday and that’s what I took to the fridge at work.

I’ll go stock up as soon as they deliver the new fridge. I CAN HARDLY WAIT!

Well, gotta go pull stuff out of the dryer and throw something else in the washer and then I need to get some work work done… [sub]woo hoo![/sub]

It’s based on this recipe. However, I changed it as follows:1. I halved the recipe (there’s a place at the bottom where you can alter the recipe as needed)since there are just 2 of us. Obviously their idea of a serving size is different from mine…
2. Instead of all cinnamon, I mix half cinnamon and half nutmeg
3. Instead of apples and raisins, I use 2 cans of peaches, drained. It’s a lot, but we like peaches
4. I’ve used different kinds of crusty bread, but it definitely needs to be a thick slice
The important thing to remember is to build it the night before - that allows the bread to soak up all the egg mixture. Also note that it’ll rise while it bakes, so make sure however you cover it, you allow for that. And I have no idea how it keeps as leftovers, since we’ve never had leftovers.

yum yum yum

So, when you gonna come down and work my corner, big boy? Oh like y’all didn’t think I’d have to say sump’n about it!

FCM ::drool:: that casserole does sound yummerific. I believe it shall enter the rotation at the swampcave as both peach and apple/raisin french toast casserole. Good idea with the cinnamon and nutmeg. I lurves nutmeg.

gt good deal on the appliances indeed! Go You! I have an entertainment center that I bought for a steal 25 years ago because it has a nick on a side that nobody can even see cause of how I’ve always positioned it. It’s solid oak with leaded glass doors and is tres chic!

SCL sounds like the friend needed that lesson in okra picking. I’ve always thought okra picking is one of those things that must be taught to be done properly. Speaking of okra, I am now the proud owner of three jars of pickled okra given to me by a friend who pickled it. I shall treasure it til the last teeny tiny okra pod is gone. I give it three weeks. I loves me some piclked okra.

I got drafted to ush at church this morning. Here I was ready to slack as just a member of the congregation too. An usher called saying he was sick and I was in the Priest’s line of sight, so I got drafted. Speaking of church, the steel framing is up on our new building. YAY! We’re aiming for March to occupy the new digs.

A pictures post…

We’ll start with the great VunderLair Fire from a month ago.

Next, for Swampy, is Maddy running through the cotton.

A bunch of sticks under the peecan three, courtesy of Ernesto, and the tree frog that came visiting as Ernesto wound down.

I set this up today as one of my projects. Also, some proof that I’ve been working on clearing out the derelicts.

Here’s where I battled the jungle, and the battle to come.

My completed living room and kitchen. Here’s my loaded pantry, just so I can tie this back to the OP…

And my final project for this weekend, the washer and dryer set we moved here is now set up and running, after 3 trips to the hardware for plumbing stuff to get the job done. It worked fine after I put on new hoses that sealed properly, but then I figured out I crossed the water supplies. :smack:
