Happy Moonday!
It’s nice, cool, and breezy outside.
Once I get awake and eat something we’re going out to do some yard work.
The dog is finally settling down a bit. Just a bit.
Hope you get news from the vet** Sunny.**

Sunny, what kind of goggie do you have that weighs 130 LBs. Other than “a big one.”
I’m not sneezly or coughing, but my inner ears itch which is a sign of allergies.
Higgs has been groomed. The original plan was for me to pick her up, but **FCD **woke from his nappage early and got her, saving me a stop. She is temporarily non-stinky. Considering I saw her rolling in something in the yard yesterday, I’m guessing it’s a very temporary non-stinky. Why do dogs do that??
I’ve just about finished the task the boss gave me this morning. If I could get to the parts list data base, I could finish today. But instead, I’ll have something to do in the morning. So that works, I guess. I’ll just kill the last half hour here, right?
When I get home, I’ve got to get a chickie in the rotisserie. Plus there are 4 ears of corn to be husked and steamed. And I should make something else - maybe carrots? I’ll figure it out.
I’m thinking I’ll sleep with Mel tonight. I’s tahred.
Jim Kjelgaard wrote that the dog likes the smell and wants to take it with him.
-Carnivorous Plant, answering rhetorical questions since..well, for a long time.
Howdy Y’all! Moanday has been survived. YAY! 'Tis hawt outside. The temp is 96 Amurrkin but feels like a hunnert and six! Since I roamed the south forty I was in and out of it all day. Dindin shall be Hamburger Helper Stroganauf (don’t judge!), green sallit and rolls. Too tired to attempt anything beyond the minimum for sustenance.
All youse feelin’ sickie get better.
BBBobbio there could always be a sudden surprise deadline at irk you knew nuttin’ about until tomorrow mornin’.
I got sunburn where the sun don’t usually shine.
It was such a cold spring that I didn’t get my summer haircut (#2) until last week. I was out for a little over an hour on Sat & didn’t realize condition until I hot home & tried to wash hair in the shower; water that wasn’t hot on my shoulders was painfully hot on top of my haid.
Guess I gotta wear hats as its not so easy to put suntan lotion between the follicles.
I also gotta go to the dentist for a toof problem as I’m doing a partial dragon impersonation (a partial Toothless).
Yes, he does; the rest of you are invited, too. As long as the weather is good, there will be a large dragon there with me.
Grump grump grump. I am not sick (hopefully) but am all sore for no good reason.
So.
Fluffy came over yesterday to watch the Tonys with me and stay over. We ordered in from a BBQ place that was über nummy. We watched Hamilton all but sweep its nominated categories. We imbibed some watermelon margaritas. We laughed a lot.
The cat demanded breakfast at her usual ungodly hour. Did you know that trying to shush a meowing cat is a fruitless endeavor? But Fluffy pretty much slept through that. I went back to bed. We officially awoke around 10:30, had coffee and Jimmy Dean sammiches, and she took a taxi back to the train. That was 11:45 a.m. I went back to sleep again and just woke up now (4pm-ish EDST). I think Saturday’s soirée caught up with me.
To borrow a perfect phrase coined by Girl 3.0: I’m madder than a sack of cats. Spent many hours in April and May, filling out paperwork, meetings, scheduling a 3 hour placement test, shopping for a decent laptop, re-jiggering the summer plans. All so that Girl 2.0 could take a couple of joint enrollment classes this summer. (She was really excited about the prospect - the classes sounded useful and interesting, and high school plus college credits.)
After weeks of trying to get in touch with the admissions coordinator (phone, email, cc-ing everything to the high school guidance office,) I finally got an email reply today: “Oh, somehow the test scores didn’t get entered. Would your daughter like to take the classes this fall?”
No. She can’t. Somehow your office didn’t enter the scores administered through * your office.* In other words, you didn’t do your job.And you wasted a lot of our time, and opportunity for my child. “Somehow” isn’t the explanation. And if you’d checked your email or voice mail a month ago, we could have “somehow” avoided this. I’m trying to cool down before I decide how to address this.
Cooling down is a challenge right now. Currently 95° 'Murkin. Heat index approximately Surface of the Sun. Jim the Lizard King is vegetating on the arm of the chair. He’s kind of small, but braver than hell! (Still trying to get a photo.)
Mr. M had a nerve ablation this morning, and feels pretty good, so we might go dirt road riding this evening - shoulder surgery Friday, so he’ll be stir crazy by next week.
And trying now to plan something constructive for Girl 2.0 for the summer. She’s considering a volunteer project. Maybe putting together a large print and audio book library for the nearby nursing home, or working with local businesses to collect non-food necessities for the local food pantry. Something useful…
They’re forecasting 120 murikan here next weekend. Sounds purdy durn un-murikan to me.
This morning the kids had a friend over. They were playing with water in the backyard and he was terrified of my bee house but my girls set him straight.
“They don’t sting unless you catch them! They’re nice bees! We like them!”
“Pet bees?! Weirdo!”
“They’re not pets! They’re pollen consultants!”
Girl knows how to bullshit! She didn’t learn that in kindergarten!
Chickie is rotissing, and I’ll turn on the corn steamer in a minute or two. Higgs has been fed. **FCD **and I have an appt with our financial guy on Firday, so we looked up some 401k numbers to better discuss our situation. These number would have been a lot nicer if we’d been smarter in our misspent youth. I’d like to go back and smack my 30-y/o self upside the haid… We did so many fiscally stupid things for far too many years.
At least we wised up soon enough to avoid living in a refrigerator box under an overpass. But I grumble over what might have been. Dammit.
Ugh. That was the other frustrating bit of the day. Mr. M opened a statement from the brokerage where his retirement accounts were temporarily parked after he was released from duty. The balance showed $ Zero on both accounts. He panicked.
I had to go read the whole thing to him, log into the account where the money is now stowed, and explain to him about 3 times that the zero balance accounts were because the $$ was deposited temporarily (about 6 weeks) purely because he procrastinated about getting a notarized signature to authorize the transfer. Gah!
(And then that conversation led to me trying to explain to my darling idiot that we aren’t taking financial advice from our deputy friend who doesn’t understand municipal bonds. Or index funds. Friend is a good guy, and a good cop, but a lousy financial advisor.)
Hey Mom, I have a sister and her family but they live in Connecticut. I don’t mind driving down, I was fortunate enough to have nice people for parents and I look forward to visiting them.
I am certainly hoping to see **Spiderman **on Saturday; I am still waiting on press credentials, and work is being reticent about allowing me the time to go shoot it. But there’s still time.
Dindin has been et. 'Twas good and didn’t heat up da cave so there’s that. It’s still waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay hawt and hyooooooooooomid out. So in da cave is the place to be right now. I do like the fact that it is not cold when I go outside. I can deal with the heat better. However, my folks didn’t raise no fool* so I know when I need to come inside.
Peaches sounds like you need to go all “southern mama” on that skool. I know you can do that.
*although a couple of my sibs are borderline fools.
We may venture out and see **Spidey **also - it kinda depends on how my sweetie feels and how available seating will be. I may have to carry a chair for him. We shall see.
Chickie was yum! Corn was really good - dunno where it came from, but it was really sweet! We’ll digest a while before having some ice cream.
I was tempted to get stupid with Little Miss Admissions, but since it’s already more than a week into the short summer semester, I’ll be reasonable. The president of the college happens to be an old school mate of mine. We are meeting for happy hour tomorrow…
(I try to use my “so local I’m related to myself” status for good, not evil!)
Sketti and meatballs for supper. And waiting for sundown to finish drying clothes. The phone app says it’s 99°. I believe it.
My horse/bear/dog is a Newfoundland.
The vet found a large mass over the kidneys. Based on that and lymph nodes, she now suspects lymphoma. We’re going to have an ultrasound and discuss it with the oncologist.
If it is lymphoma, we’ll keep him comfortable and not treat. I’ve been down that road. I think it would be very, very hard on an older dog.
I suppose one thing we learn from our pets is how to be present right now. Right now Pooka is happy to be curled up next to me, and I am happy to have him here. I’ll try to focus on that and ignore my watering eyes.
Roasting chikkie for dindin with mashed N.O.T. I bought some ice cream for later. Shhhh! Don’t tell the chilluns!
Missed this first time around. Still unpacking from this weekend and putting things away.
{{{sunny}}}
‘Tis time to retire to the boudoir for the evenin’. OYKW is already abed and watchin’ teevee. I believe I shall be in sleepyland shortly. I’s tahrd and sleepified.
Nitey Nite Y’all!
**Sunny **years ago I had a wonderful Newfie that had a mass in his neck, about the size of a baseball. Under all that fur it was hard to know it was there unless you went feeling for it. The vets suggested surgery and chemo, $8k worth. At his age I didn’t think it was appropriate, and instead decided to wait and keep an eye on his health and happiness.
He lasted several more years, showing no ill effects from the mass, and died old and happy.
I am sure you will make the correct choice.
