The "counting one's blessings" MMP

Afternoon all. Coached 4 games today (the 8U boys had two games, both losses, the 8U girls remain undefeated and the 12U boys lost but played an excellent game) and the refereed after about an hour’s rest. So I’m a bit tired… Need to fix some dinner here shortly, so far today I’ve had a Mug of Instant Breakfast, 12 saltine crackers and 2 Pepsi’s, so need some actual nourishment.

Tomorrow is Mow the Lawn and Braunschweiger Run day. So off to bed early tonight.

Have read all but absorbed little, so hugs, tears, and yippees! where required.

Everyone have a good night.

oohh what brand of 'schweiger do you perfer ?

Here in So Cal, we have the ubiquitous farmer john brand as the gold standard of meats but they’re hella expensive so it’s usually john Morrel or oscar Meyer…

The Braunschweiger I get at whatever Cash & Carry is called now is delicious. And inexpensive.

Good to hear!

Uncle is a great gig!! My grand daughter adores her Uncle Thomas and it’s reciprocated.

He brought her a bag of ‘rocks’ and they sat on the deck and bashed them with a hammer, to reveal the geodes inside. She thinks he walks on air.

It’s been an annoying day over here. Microwave had been acting up a little, DH’s efforts to repair it simply killed it dead. Much distress over finding the closest match we could that could be obtained today, which turned out to be what may have been the very last of this model to be had at a Walmart I’m willing to go to (there’s one in town I will only go to if completely unavoidable). Now I’ve gotta put the kitchen back together (we do stack some shelving on the microwave due to a major shortage of other available space), plus get a load of laundry drying.

At least DH was amenable to a stop at See’s, and over half the total wound up being his (they did have some promising sugar-free options for him). Car and humans got fed on that outing, and it’s not yet raining.

Now I am jealous! I love their lollipops~they are a whole different world of lollipop.

Unfortunately I live in a wasteland for See’s so I’ve never had their chocolates but their catalog looks good enough to eat.

And sugar-free chocolates are vastly better than no chocolates at all. Bon appetit!

oopsie, the MMP is the only place that I’ve really read or posted on the dope for several years.

Happy birthday to swampy’s friend Miss Lou!

Picked up a prescription, got gas and took a ride today. Once back, I took Nelson to the playdate, where he had lots of fun.

Flatbread pizza and basil / tomato salad with an oatmeal cookie from Panera for supper (Nelson even got a pup cup). They put an extra cookie in the bag and the pizza was enough for two meals, so tomorrow’s lunch is taken care of.

Oh, I got some non-sugar-free for myself (DH is diabetic). Some butterscotch squares are awaiting their trip to my stomach.

Home at last, and exhausted. Roxy and her cousin Grayson had a good time. I ate too much crap, but redeemed myself by having a handful of grapes a few minutes ago. Roxy is spending the night - she’s crashed out in the guest room now - at least I think she’s crashed - I don’t hear anything from her. She should be exhausted since it’s way past her bedtime.

Fun time, but long day. I shall crash soon…

OK, so now I’m making sure everything’s on chargers that needs to be, with laundry and dishes churning. Concerned that the storm coming in (serious rain and wind, possible thunderstorm) might cause power hiccups.

I was raised on Oscar Meyer and that is still the only brand I eat (I’m finicky that way). The only store that carries it is about 28 miles away, so I usually stock up for a month or two (depending on the expiration date) on my run up there.

Not as tired as I thought I was, dinner has been consumed and I am now hydrated. May leave the world of the internet and go do Sudoku’s for the balance of the evening.

Seanette, glad the microwave was replaceable. And looked up See’s, unfortunately we don’t have one close to here (closest is Oklahoma or Indiana).

OK, on to the Sudoku’s. Everyone have a quiet night (or a nice morning for our Euros).

Yeah, dad used to buy Oscar Meyer in the packets that had eight slices. It was good. The (former) Cash & Carry is just as good, but you have to slice it yourself. I haven’t bought Braunschweiger sincwe Tonka died, since that’s what we tried to get him to eat when he stopped eating. :frowning:

Shouldn’t that be “tots and pears”?

Not a particularly restful night, what with coughing waking me plus feeling all icky and in need of a shower, so about 5, I got up, got clean, and got dressed. I brought all the dirty laundry out - once Roxy is up and dressed, we’ll go downstairs so she can play and I can wash the clothes. Then once her mom picks her up, it’ll be cooking-baking time!

On the drive home last night, we were discussing what will go on when it’s babby time. I’ll have Roxy overnight for however long is necessary, and I’ll be taking her to school and picking her up till Mama and TobyO are settled at home. I expect I’ll spend a fair bit of time at their place the first couple of weeks as they need me - apparently that was the tough time with Roxy because of exhaustion and no one around to help. But that will only work till FCD gets his knee done - then they’re on their own again. November and December will be interesting…

We were also discussing car seats and the shuffling thereof. We have enough as long as I don’t have to pick up Roxy when I have the baby. Otherwise, one will be shifted from car to car. Roxy’s school is about a quarter of a mile from home and chances are she’d be perfectly safe just belted in my car, but it’d be just my luck to get stopped. So we’ll figure it out.

I just looked it up - in Merrylande, a child must be in a seat until at least age 8 and 4’9" tall. So a short kid could be in a booster till 12… theoretically… Roxy’s shooting up so fast, I expect she’ll be plenty tall enough at 8. So 5 more years of a booster for her. Things have certainly changed since my parents brought me from California to Merrylande in a travel crib in the back of the car, or in Mom’s arms.

OK, enough babby stuff. Sorry for droning on - this was a stream of consciousness post.

Happy Sunday!!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 48 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 86 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. Weather be weird. The big plan of the day is deheathenization (I have Verger duty) followed by N.O.L. at Sonny’s due to a gnawin’ and a cravin’ for ribs. The rest of the day shall be taken up by nappage and sloth. I’ll take a couple steaks out of da freezer since tomorrow is men’s night over to the church house.

nettie yay for microwave replacement and nummy candy. Hope the weather didn’t get too bad.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, purtification for deheathenization mujst commence.

Happy Sunday Y’all!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. I also had a bit of restless night, as Gordie had to go out at 0330. But that’s still better than stepping in cold poop at 0700.

Mooooooom, the car seat that the folks had for a couple of my younger siblings merely set them up a little higher and gave them a pretend steering wheel to play with. Once, when I lived in the 'hood, my neighbor came to me on Christmas day needing a ride to the municipal hospital for her son. He wasn’t an ambulance case (he had bronchitis), but, being Christmas day, buses weren’t running and she had no money for a cab. Given that she had no car, she had no car seat and, for obvious reasons, neither did I. We wound up seatbelting him in between us with pillows for cushion in the cab of my truck. Fortunately, we didn’t get stopped.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. The usual Sunday chores are on the table for the day, but not much else.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

We just got back from a week in western Washington. The trip was a combination vacation/checking out 55+ neighborhoods for retirement purposes. We saw a couple of great places that we liked, but prices certainly have climbed in the last year or two.

We took road trips every day. We drove up the Skagit River valley, took the scenic drive up next to the Samish Bay, looked at a lovely farm valley just south of Stanwood, and enjoyed the Skagit plain where we were staying at an old farmhouse.

The weather was clear and sunny for the first part of the week, and then rain set in for the last couple of days. The local weather folks were talking about a “cyclone bomb” off the coast, which was an unusually severe, hurricane-like weather formation. Luckily it missed western Washington, and is going up to possibly wreak havoc in British Columbia.

And when we flew home, we squeaked in between one storm in Washington and another in San Jose, where we live. I’m a jittery flyer and the weather had me freaking out for awhile, but I lived through the turbulence. And now we have a few days of drenching rain here in California, where it’s desperately needed! We might get as much as an inch today.

Blessed Day Off today. I have some fun stuff to do (dye blue streaks in my hair, make chicken soup) and some not-so-fun things to do (clean litter box, KP duty after the soup is done).

We’re supposed to get even more rain later today and definitely tomorrow. Glad some of it has migrated to our drought-stricken neighbors!

Good morning everyone.

We’re getting hit with another “cyclone bomb” today and overnight, teela. This one will have an impact on Washington state, though certain areas will be harder hit than others. Today will include drenching rain, high winds (not good when trees still have a lot of leaves), and even thunderboomers. There will also be flooding in certain areas. Welcome to Autumn in the PNW.

Things have gotten very expensive here in WA state and part of that can be attributed to population growth. If you’re thinking of living in Skagit or Snohomish counties, it’s spendy up there. Pierce, Thurston, and Lewis counties are less expensive in that order. You might look there unless you’re choosing that area to be closer to family.

As I said, it’s going to be a wild and wooly day here weather-wise. It’s supposed to continue into tomorrow, with rain pretty much the rest of the week.

I need to do laundry today, and fuel up my Jeep since I need to go into the office tomorrow. I don’t really want to, but the new MPA starts tomorrow, I told her we should meet in-person to go over some things. I think since I’ll be out to get fuel for the Jeep, I’ll stop at Mud Bay and stock up on some doggie ice cream. Polar is running low, and he expects dessert every night. Seriously, he starts woo-wooing at us about 10 minutes after dinner and runs to the freezer. He’s no dummy. Since Safeway is next door, I’ll stop to pick up some yogurt, fruit, flour (we’re out), and ice cream for me. I buy ice cream from local (in state) dairies. It’s really good, although a little spendy. Since I don’t really go out much or do anything anyway, it’s a vice I feel we can spend on.

Car seat rules for Washington: Washington’s Child Passenger Restraint Law (RCW 46.61. … Children up to age 2 must be properly secured in a rear-facing car seat. Children ages 2-4 years must ride in a car seat with a harness (rear or forward-facing). Children 4 and older must ride in a car or booster seat until they are 4’ 9" tall.

Zoe is tall but thin. It’s hard to tell right now how long Adam will be in a booster. He’s a solid, chonky boy! I’m not sure he’s inherited his dad’s height.

Time for another cup of the black gold. I want to knock out some chores, clean up, and get my errands out of the way before the deluge starts. Right now, it’s the calm before the storm. It’s dead quiet out there right now.
