Seven of the clock, and the bovine skeletal structures with musculature attached are in the oven at 225º American.
Fancy-pantsy way of saying “it’s early o’clock and ribs are in the oven.”
Me? Blue dye is settling into three streaks of my hair, and I’m wandering around in an emormous oversized wrap-around sweater with Smurf-colored ears & a Wal-Mart plastic bag binder-clipped to my head.
I should go for a walk, just to give the neighbors something to talk about!
At least it gave me incentive to be mildly productive - needing to wash all this blue dye off my hands & wrists led to a buncha dishes being washed.
I’d start that chicken soup, but having sat for a moment, Monkey leapt into my lap, curled up, started purring, and … I mean … what am I supposed to do, get up?
I’ll whine in more appropriate threads about this, but …
Having applied for several jobs, I now have an inbox clogged with “submit these multiple assessment tests to complete your application!” links, and I just … really? For a customer service gig?
Stoopit hoops to jump through, for B.S. reasons that stopped being legitimate a long time ago.
… and no, none of the follow-up questions include, “Have you ever walked around with a grocery plastic bag clipped to your head?”
Up and been out of the house already, got down to the gift shop and fixed the sign. Looked like someone threw something at it. Then procured items to build lasagna this evening. Might do a final (fingers crossed) mowage of the year. Definitely need to sweep the leaves off of the porch lest they turn into a big sponge trying to rot the deck.
shoe careful with that walmart bag. I’ve seen pics of people dying their hair and using walmart bags ending up with the logo transferred to their hair.
Happy Sunday!
Cloudy at the park this morning. Small group, just 5 humans and 6 dogs.
Echo got the zoomies. Lily finally joined in, then Urban. Then they ran into the back corner behind the trees where the big hole is. Echo got a face full of flying dirt.
The dogs aren’t supposed to dig in the park, but what goes on behind the trees stays behind the trees.
When I first read 55+ neighborhoods I thought Damn, Teela, y’all were sure busy.
Today we for sure put air in the tires. We’ll go to the gas station by the grocery store. I ordered some groceries to make up for what we didn’t get Toosday. I’ll get gas while we are there too.
That pump looks nice Ooopsie, and not like a pita like my last one.
I really need to do laundry, since I slept most of yesterday and didn’t get anything done. My leg isn’t hurting as badly today. I think it’s just a pulled muscle. I forgot to look before I opened the door when I took the dogs to daycare. My two get excited as it is, and I didn’t notice somebody walking across the parking lot with their dog. Both of them pulled me hard, and I wasn’t expecting it.
I’m surprised I didn’t land face first into the asphalt.
I wanted my son to do some weed-whacking today, but it’s supposed to rain off and on all day.
He goes back to irk tomorrow and this is the three days on, one day off, three days on week, so he won’t be good for doing much of anything.
Keeping on the topic of the MMP
drinking clean water for the first time
Morning, all!
I went to bed on the late side which meant also getting up on the late side, but at this time – 11:20am ET – I have showered and started the laundry and finished a second/final editing pass on a 6-page article that my father wrote (no idea how/whether it will be published, but he’s retired and writing it helped keep him busy for a little while). At this point, I’m caught up on everything except the Google Forms stuff for my NAACP committee…I’ll get to that in a bit.
It’s Vocal Workshop day! We didn’t have sessions the last two Sundays because our instructor (a working jazz pianist) was out of town for gigs. Not only will it be good to be back, but today we have a guest instructor: a really wonderful jazz singer, who was the vocalist on the same gigs as our instructor. She has guest-instructed our group before, and I’m looking forward to it.
The workshop starts at 4:15, and sometime before then I plan to go to Staples to fax the various test results and clearances that my bariatric surgeon requires for my gastric bypass. Tuesday’s endoscopy results mean that I finally have all of them, and the other day I printed everything and created a fax cover sheet (35 pages all told). I wish I could email all of it – or, better yet, that the bariatric center would just take whatever they need from my online chart – but the directions are to fax it all so I will fax it all. The Staples is on the way to the workshop, and I’m hoping there won’t be a long line/it won’t take long. I figure I’ll allow for an hour, and see how things go. I can always get to the workshop studio early and hang out in the lobby, but I really don’t want to be late.
Well, now it’s noon and I need to move on to other things. I really do need to dive into Google Forms, I want to order groceries to be delivered tomorrow, and I should spend a little quality time on the couch with the doggy before I go to Staples/my workshop. Plus there’s lunch, finishing the laundry, etc. (When did my Sundays get busier than my Saturdays? LOL!) Have a great day, everyone!
Today’s the intense day for weather. Wind 18mph gusting to 31, abundant rain even by my Oregon coast native standards, and it’s supposed to get a lot heavier this afternoon (typing at 9:15ish Pacific).
I think this is about the fifth day in a row the Princess has come for morning snuggles. I hope she continues that.
Gotta deal with DH’s UI claim today and I am NOT looking forward to that, California’s EDD being the dumpster fire it currently is. Also gotta get DH to MacGyver a solution to gaps at the back of the freezer shelf (itself improvised) that allow smaller objects to fall through. Those gaps are IMO an unnecessary extra degree of freezer Tetris difficulty.
Knowing that “water wars” will likely be a feature of future human lives (the way “oil wars” defined ours) makes this so much more poignant.
I’ve always at women who flush before sitting down to go. What, your pee-pee is so magical it has to flow into pristine, previously-drinkable water?
Roasted chicken wings are a-boilin’ now, with carrots and garlic and bay leaves.
WHY DIDN’T ANYONE TELL ME I’M OUT OF ONION?!?
I’m down to the last one, which is roughly equivalent to being out.
Hour three of “blue dye wrapped in Wal-Mart bag” hair.
Should prolly rinse it out eventually. It’s a vegan, no-peroxide “gentle” formula, and Teh Googlez assured me that better results are achieved with longer soak-in timed.
Charm is hungry. Problem? It’s been chilly, and my ASFs have, predictably, burrowed into their respective substrate and made hidden lairs. Where they’ve stashed all their babies.
I can hear them. (“Week! Week-week-weeek. Weeeeek!”) But I can’t see them, and I don’t want to dig around too much and create landslides and potentially bury anyone.
It’s exactly the same color as the dye. GO FOR IT, WAL-MART LOGO.
I have long, wavy hair - the logo wouldn’t be legible. (Super-short, ruler-straight hair might show it better.)
The farmers market had local chestnuts, so for lunch I’ll be eating chestnuts.
More stealth rattie babies? Will there be pictures when they’re located?
Happy Sunday! I was awakened by the neighbor’s dog barking and howling. I thought I’d mention dog-sitting when I saw them, but I haven’t run into them, so I just now put a note on their door. I’m sure if they don’t get the barking (which only happens when they’re gone) under control, management will get involved, and that’d be a shame. Plus I feel sorry for the pup. He can’t help it that he misses his people.
Today I get to hear from my kiddos. And I’ll go for a walk wherever my feet may take me. I should also put in a Costco order for delivery.
Oh, those are my favorite! I just ordered a box for my son-in-law for his birthday, as he loves the butterscotch squares, too. I’ve done this for 8 years, yet he always forgets and is happily surprised. My daughter rolls her eyes.
sniff, sniff My mother used to send See’s lollies to my students every year at Christmas. They never met her, but they loved her from afar.
What is this country coming to? It’s every American’s birthright to get See’s chocolates! Elect me, and I’ll see every American gets a box. I’ll also change the line in the national anthem to “Oh, say can you See’s.”
Mooooom, when my daughter hit 7 years old, it was a struggle to get her into the booster seat because she insisted it was for "babies, and none of her friends used them any more. My son was a lot easier. Ironically, my mother was barely 4’9 and could have used a booster seat.
Roxy has been retrieved - WHEW - that kid tires me out! But I managed to get 4 loads of laundry done, so there was some productivity.
As soon as the current L&O episode is over, we’re going to Olive Garden for soup and salad. Once we get back home, cookie bakeage shall commence. That should fill my afternoon.
Really? See’s is all over the place down here and I can’t stand the stuff. Hate it with a passion usually reserved for those who molest your flamingo. I’m not that big a fan of chocolate in any form but to me, See’s barely qualifies anyway. Any time anybody gifts me a box it gets given to my students post haste.
Gloomy, chilly Sunday in SoCal. Got a load of laundry in the dryer and the dishwasher is loaded and ready to run. No more baseball for the season (sigh.) All the cats want me to do is drop everything and sit in the recliner with a fleece throw so they can all climb aboard and nap all cozy-like. Little heat vampires, they are.
Have a pleasant valley Sunday, Mumpers. Catch you in the new thread!
Maybe! I’m still trying to work with Imgr to post pics here.
All the instructions posted on SDMB/Discourse work with “real” computers, and I’m having trouble posting pics off my mobile phone.
If I could, easily, y’all would be inundated with flowers, cross-stitch, cats, etc.
Stoopit technology.
Meanwhile, if I can successfully locate ANY of these “Week! Weeeek! Weeeeeeeeek! Week!” pups I keep hearing, then at minimum, Charm gets her weekly meal.
Hair is rinsed. “Bright navy blue” dye turned into “subtle teal/aqua” in my hair, but since I didn’t bleach or lighten it first, I’m not super-surprised.
I did waffle between blue and purple, at the store. Now I’m considering getting the purple, and putting that adjacent to the existing streaks - maybe it’ll mellow into the blue I wanted originally!
Very apt label for kitties.
Decided to pull and wash sheets, will probably conclude the laundry binge with the usual in-play blanket. I do have backups of both in case I need to reassemble the bed before laundry’s done. Load 2 is the mattress cover, which is optional if any problems like power outages develop.
Still quite wet and windy, with heavier rain due around mid-afternoon.
The one closest to me is in Manhattan, roughly 270 miles away. I don’t think I’ve ever had their confections.
Back from late lunch. We’ve decided to leave tomorrow right after I fetch Roxy and turn her over to her Mama. We should get to the I-95 exits for Roanoke Rapids before having to stop for the night. I’ll make a reservation thereabouts with a pet-friendly motel. That will make the long trip a bit easier.
Time to make the cookies.
I slept better last night because my arm wasn’t as sore and all is good now. I’ll get my 2nd shingles shot on my birthday and that will be it for the jabbing this year! I’d be happy if I only had to get a flu shot next year, but if we have to get yearly COVID boosters it won’t be an issue for me.
It’s a beautiful day and I plan to do some yard work while the sun shines. I don’t want to go out now because hubs is bottling beer and will need me to help with draining the last of the beer out of the barrel. Somehow he always seems to need my help when my hands and sometimes the rest of me are covered with mud and assorted garden debris.
It seems to me that we have fewer birds now than before the lot got cleared which is surprising. I expected a lot of the evicted birds to end up in our yard. I’ve been seeing a new Stellar Jay at the suet feeder, but the seed feeders haven’t been getting empty as quickly as before.
See’s candies were always a part of Christmas when i was working. They were always showing up in the break rooms and sups would hand out boxes to their minions. I haven’t seen them since I retired and I don’t miss them enough to go and buy my own.
Hubs mom used to make candy every Christmas and would send us a big box of treats. Those are the treats I miss, they were amazing and I could taste the love in every bite. I miss her.
Got the leaves off the porch and mowage achieved. The mower didn’t like the big pile of leaves from off of the porch, but it did mulch them up eventually. About to start assembling lasagna. Didn’t lasagna used to end with an “e?”
Anyway, prolly out until the next MMP. Stay safe, y’all!
Long story short, last week I sent some books to some children I have never met because they were going through a scary time. I sent two packages, one to each child. The first child got their package today and the parent contacted me to say that the child with the books is sharing with the child without the books and is very happy.
This is probably going to keep me happy for the rest of the day
Tracking says the other package should be there tomorrow (I planned them to arrive on the same day, thanks Amazon), so hopefully I’ll get another happy child with books message tomorrow.
As the grown-up version of a child who loved books (and they kept me going through lots of bad, scary times) this post kinda made me teary.
Okay, lotsa teary.
O.K. WHO IS CHOPPING ONIONS?!
Fine. Purple dye is streaked into my hair. If the blue is any indication, this needs to sit for hours. (Manic Panic, for those taking notes.)
I was supposed to run an errand for someone, then go help trim again for someone else.
I might possibly beg off one/both. It’s my only day off, dammit - don’t I get time for myself, dammit?!?
