The "counting one's blessings" MMP

Or at least your tresses should get some unpestered time to themselves.

BTW did charm get fed? Inquiring old biddies wanna know….

We went out to Tony’s Just A Bite for breakfast, then went to Home Despot for a new kitchen garbage bin. (Mrs. L.A. put a can of expanding foam in a nearly-full bag a while ago, and there’s foam on the old bin’s lid.) Got home, and remembered that I forgot mesquite BBQ sauce for the ribs. I made the 8-mile round trip to the store in the shopping area we’d just left. Got the mesquite, plus two flavours of sugar-free BBQ sauce.

Mrs. L.A. wanted to carve the jack-o-lanterns, so I cut the lids off and scooped them out. Then she asked if I wanted to go to the hardware store for casters for the new bin. (Why? I didn’t ask. SWMBO wants wheels.) I told her no because I don’t think they have the size I had in mind, and could go back to Home Despot mañana. She took the Jeep to see what the local hardware store has. I don’t think she thought about nuts and bolts.

Juan the Roofer called, and he said that next Saturday and Sunday looks good to put on our new roof. Fingers crossed.

Cookies are all baked. All the oatmeal varieties are bagged, and I’m waiting for the chocolate chip cookies to cool so they can be bagged. I pulled 2 chickie tits out of the freezer - I’ll cook them in the morning and build a chicken-pecan-grape salad to go with us.

We’ve got a sack of red spuds that will go bad if we leave them here, so I’m taking them along with my N.O.T. soup recipe. My MIL shouldn’t have to cook at all while we’re there, and I’ll be leaving some food in their freezer. And one day we’re going to order either lunch or supper from Sonny’s - it’s a bit of a drive but I’ll fetch it rather than risk dining out in FL. Plus FCD and his dad are both mobility impaired, so better for them to stay home.

This time tomorrow, we’ll be somewhere in VA, heading south. I think breaking the trip into 2 days is definitely the smart move. Now to make a reservation in Roanoke Rapids…

Glad you had a nice trip teela.

oopsie, the last few times that I had surgery, I had to fax all of the insurance crap from somewhere else, given that I haven’t had a landline for years. Insurance companies are beginning to get the picture though and some of them are allowing you to send them via zipped file.

shoe, your hair looks light enough for kool-ade dying. It’s pretty easy and you’re only limited by the shades of drink mix (take a couple of unsweetened packets, make a paste and streak your hair. Leave it for .5-1 hour and rinse. It will rinse out in a couple of weeks).

seanette, I stop by the See’s in Franklin, TN occasionally, but they have limited SF options available on hand. :frowning:

I watched Hoosiers this afternoon and cried (I always do with that movie). I’ve played around in the studio and fixed supper (smothered chicken and zucchini / tomato casserole). I’s stuffeded!

See y’all tomorrow!

Laundry nearly complete and freezer shelf MacGyvering is accomplished. I had to venture out to the car at one point, and I swear I’ve experienced showers with less water pressure. It is coming down HARD.

It rained hard here in Nebraska most of the day~granddaughter and I didn’t play outside at all. So dark all day needed the electric lights on. Gloomy but the aquifer will be happy, as will the people downriver on the Missouri River.

The bovine thoracic skeletal structures with musculature attached were good. A little too much cayenne for The Missus, but I can attenuate it by mixing some more rub into the current batch without it.

Jacks have been carved and look good.

The casters Mrs. L.A. bought are too big (IMO). I look for more tomorrow.

She also wants to paint a wall. So we need to clear off a counter, and I’ll need to take off the countertop and pull out at least one cabinet. Ain’t vacations wunnerful?

Howdy Y’all! We deheathenated, had N.O.L. at Sonny’s (I had smoked chikin, OYKW got St. Louis style ribs), achieved nappage, worked on our sloth skills, and the biiiiiiiiiiiiig trash can has been hauled all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow. Been cloudy most of the day but no sign of rain. Thus was Sunday.

I have never had See’s candy. I’ve heard about it, but to my knowledge have never been anywhere close to a store or outlet.

Y’all with the copious rain, wind, etc. stay safe!

The neighbors still haven’t returned, and their dog is back to barking and howling. It’s been 9.5 hours. I never left my dogs alone that long, as they wouldn’t have been able to hold their water. This is the longest he’s been on his own. I hope he’s OK.

Both chilluns called, so once again, all is right with the world.

Taters, did you get a windstorm today? It’s been fairly calm here, but my son said they had strong gusts up near Seattle.

For those who don’t like See’s, what readily-available chocolates do you prefer? I like See’s better than Godiva (waxy texture, gummy fillings, though beautiful) or any of the grocery store brands (Whitman’s, Stouffer’s, Brach’s, etc.). I used to love Marshall Fields’ Frango mints, but I haven’t had them since (boooo) Macy’s took over.

shoe, I’m sure your hair looks wonderful. Good for you for making a change!

This sounds like Grey’s Anatomy did menu descriptions, though you’d need heart monitor alarms and someone shouting, “Charge to 300! Clear!” to provide the proper ambience.

I am SO stealing this. Had me guffawing.

None. I am so spoiled by my MIL that I find fault in any store bought chocolate. I will buy the expensive stuff sold by the pound at the hoity-toity stores, but that’s it.

shoe I’m glad you understand. Books are the perfect mind comfort food when things are scary and out of control. Giving books to children is a bit of a hobby of mine* and I don’t have to get all OCD about it. I save that for my needlework, LOL!

I think I have enough done on my needlepoint house to be able to start showing off my skills at the convention. I’m also going to finish off the bookmarks while I’m there, all the ladies will be very impressed by me using frame bars to avoid denting the metal while banging with a hammer. I do SO have skills!!!

Here’s what I usually see while I’m stitching:

Imgur

I keep everything covered to avoid soiling the light colors.

Here’s what it looks like unrolled and uncovered:
Imgur

The white streaks at the top are going to be covered by “ribbons and hearts”, I won’t leave them out in the open. If you scroll down to the middle of the first roof on the left, there is a missed stitch in the background on the left that I’m going to leave and hope that I cover it with a heart because I’m really lazy and don’t want to pick those fiddly stitches out.

Bonus kitty pics:

They are chilling on a full sized bed. I knew George was going to be a big boy, I just didn’t expect him to get this big this quick. He’s only 6 months old. VBC in the foreground is about 12 we think.

*Before the world ended I used to leave gently used children’s books where ever I thought bored children might be. Doctor’s offices, government assistant program offices, laundromats, bus stops etc. I’m able to start indulging a little now, but not so much as before. I miss doing it.

FCM I hope your travels are easy and safe. I didn’t know you were taking your kitties with you, I guess I thought your daughter would be catsitting them at home.

Yet another reason you’re my hero. I LOVE that you’re sending books to kids you don’t know. I nominate you for Mumper of the Week.

Awww, thank you, nellie! You are so sweet, but honestly, it’s all very self serving. A well educated population is in my best interests after all. One of the ways to achieve this is to get children to associate books/reading with fun, not as something that you have to do because your teacher said so.

Besides, the mental pic I have of a couple of stressed children smiling and sharing books makes me happy and I like using my money to make me happy so there you are. All self serving and selfish!

BTW, flyboy, we had our roof done a couple of years ago and the cats all hid in our bedroom. That was fine until the roofers were banging over our bathroom and managed to knock one of the ceiling vent fans out to loudly bang on the floor. Your feline overlords might be OK in their catio, but if I’m alive to have another roof put on, I will lock the cats in the closet so the sky doesn’t fall in their direction.

Evening all. Braunsweiger run completed (stocked until 12 December) and mowage accomplished (Two 33-gallon bags full) and ate out twice in one day (Longhorn Steakhouse for Noon-time and a burger and fries at Metro Diner for dinner). Between puzzles and news and bathing and tackleball, haven’t climbed on the MMP as often as I usually do.

Safe travels tomorrow, FCM.

Unknown, you done a good thing with the books. I’ve donated on occasion to the local Middle School libraries, maybe need to start doing that again.

Sounds like a busy and (hopefully) useful trip, lucky.

To all my other friends, I did read but didn’t absorb much. I vow to do better on the next MMP.

Of the Year!

Lindt truffles, even tho they no longer make the amaretto variety. They still make enough that I do like.

We’re not taking the cats, just Higgs. Our son-in-law will come by to scoop their box and bring in the mail. If not for being preggo, our daughter would be doing it.

We have a paid room for tomorrow night. And we’ll have plenty of time to pack, so less chance of forgetting something. We’ll drive between 3 and 4 hours tomorrow, so it will shorten Tuesday a little. For our return, we can plan to go about half way on the first day, which should be better. Here’s hoping for decent driving weather.

Nooo, it needs to be a weekly award so that all the Mumpers can have a change to get an Official Mumper Book Hero Award! Everyone can participate as often as possible and valuable bragging rights might encourage others to play.

Thrift stores are a good source of books to leave places and I have never had a parent turn down an offer to buy books for their children. They don’t have to be expensive, learning sort of books, comic books have their place.

Ohhh, I guess I hadn’t realized that Higgs wasn’t just another pain in the butt cat.

I"m glad you posted though, you reminded me to tell you that I’d be happy to send Rox a couple of books scheduled to arrive a day or so before the BIG CHANGE. Coloring books still count as “books=fun” in my mind if reading is a struggle without an adult. Besides, who doesn’t love getting a mystery package in the mail? 'Specially when your mom’s going to give you a little brother instead of the sister you asked for!

Yes! And some libraries have used book sales to make room for newer stuff.

How do you get the names and addresses of the recipients?

Moooom, safe and happy travels! I hope Babby stays put until you get back. I know he’s not finished baking yet, but some babies get tired of being in the oven and come out early.

Library book sales have GREAT books to donate to hospitals. Or well, they did before the world ended. I’m pretty sure that volunteers pushing book carts are a thing of the past nowadays.

I leave children’s books in my wake like Hansel and Gretel did bread crumbs. The big difference is that I want the books to be taken and consumed!

I’m such a good book pusher that you didn’t even notice me fishing for an address in the post right over yours!

I’m so up for a race to see who can give books to the most recipients cause books are awesome and in this age of tech toys, sometimes people need to be reminded about their importance!

Well, some parts of Sacramento have gotten over 5" of rain today, and the city just sent out an emergency alert asking people to stay off the roads until at least 4am due to flooded areas. There are still plenty of doofuses (or would the correct plural be doofi?) trying to drown their cars or play hydroplane bumper cars out there, though.
