Welcome! “One of us, one of us. We accept you, one of us.”
@Sahirrnee, I know how bad an energy drain that to-do list can be.
Got some more clutter-mining done, am about to report to Amazon that since FedEcchs has no apparent intent to deliver that shipment (and has ceased to communicate at all) I’ll need my money back. Ugh.
Pot roast planned. It’s going to be that kind of week weather-wise. One station says pretty much alternating days for the next week, 4-8" total.
Well, of course. But it’s not our fault if we charm and entertain you so much that you decide to keep coming back!
I just fired up the pellet stove - it’s 69° in here and I’m having an iced beverage, so I’m cold! I don’t expect it to run too long, since it’s thermostatically controlled, but it should take the chill out of the air. I expect when we get back from our trek to FL, I’ll put the electric blanket on the bed.
My daughter now has OB visits twice a week so I’ll have some more Roxy time. She’s still not sure about this brother thing - it’ll be interesting when he comes to live with them…
I threw together a nice salad for supper. Now it’s time for some serious chillage.
My wife had three friends visiting for a long weekend (the first time that they had been able to get together since the start of COVID). They’re all nice people, but we don’t have a terribly big house, and after a year and a half of being in the house 98% of the time, with just the two of us (and the two cats), I admit that I felt a little bit invaded, and I got a little snippish on Thursday night (the first night that they were here).
I apologized to all of them on Friday, and the rest of the weekend went better. They’ve all headed home now, and I’m enjoying the quiet and the space.
We mostly just yammer about what we’ve accomplished (or not) and swap tales about neighbors/co-workers/pets/relatives/roommates (did I forget a category?) while killing time and being our Mumper selves.
Come { pat, pat } and join us. Tell us stuff.
ETA: I wander off for a couple of minutes, and this many Mumpers ninja me?!? Psssh.
@kenobi_65 Sure, good to have more around. Now what shall we call you? obi? Ben? Alec?
And I totally understand the irritation with the home invasion. Don’t sweat it.
Now on to prep some dinner for me and the dog. I’ve got some leftover yakisoba from last night, but I’m not sure I really want that. Maybe a burger and salad instead.
Two delicious versions, from Trader Joes, if you get a chance. The bisque is refrigerated, the other is single serving, shelf stable size. Both need only warm bread and butter to make a tummy happy this time of year.
Welcome Obi! I can understand the feeling of having your home invaded. Once you get used to the piece and quiet, just one other person can seem like a crowd.
I force myself to go to town once a week so I don’t forget all of my socialization.
How’d your kitties take the invasion? We have a 6 month old kitten who runs to the door to say hi, and a crabby old lady cat who flounces off when strangers invade her domain. The 17 year old spends most of his days on his scratching tree in our bedroom but will come out if he hears treats being dispensed.
shoe I’ve never had fried green tomatoes, it wasn’t a west coast thing. Hubs is an official hillbilly (Appalachian American) from West Virginia and he brought up fried green tomatoes the same day you suggested them, so it looks like they are in my future. I was able to get a couple more ripe maters but there are a whole lot of green ones left.
I go to visit some friends of my own every couple of weeks (in addition to going to the grocery store every week), and one of my friends, who is our church secretary, has given me a standing invitation to come to the church office to work, and hang out with her. So, I do get some socialization, but for someone who’s a strong extrovert, it’s been hard.
You read my mind.
Merry and Pippin are ginger tabby brothers, 2 1/2 years old:
Because we adopted them only a few months before COVID, they really haven’t spent a lot of time around people other than my wife and me. Plus, they are spooky things anyway, and any visitor to the house (or even the doorbell) makes them run for cover. So, they were not happy about the invasion.
My wife’s friends arrived on Thursday afternoon, and the “hobbits” were close to invisible until Friday evening, when they finally started getting brave, and making a few appearances (and finally started eating again). By Saturday evening, they were coming by and visiting the guests (Pippin moreso than Merry, who’s more freakish), and by this morning, they were hanging out with everyone, just in time for the guests to leave.
Ohmygosh, what a handsome pair! I have a soft place in my heart for ginger kitties, they are usually so smooshy! It sounds like the invasion was good for them, though.
FCM, I wonder if your greenhouse might work better if you wrapped blankets around a couple of sides? You would still get light from the roof and other sides, but wouldn’t lose so much heat?
It was the longest that they have been around anyone other than us since November of '19 (when my sister did the cat-sitting while we were on vacation). I do hope that it helped them chill out a bit around strangers.
And, yes, they are very snuggly with us, and when there aren’t strangers in the house, they are nearly always present, somewhere near us
Well I’ve gone and done it. I washed a queen quilt and for whatever reason my washer did not wring it out. So I wrestled it out of the machine to hang over the porch rail to dry in about a month but it’s too heavy to move and I don’t know if it still has soap in it. I have washed it before with no problem. Always something. I suppose I could get someone to help me get it to the trash. Or, I could try to put it back into the washer and rewash it. Decisions, decisions.
Welcome, obi! Merry and Pippin are gorgeous! I can see so much sweetness in their eyes. Do they get second breakfast every day?
Ooooh! I see! We had one that was that wide and long, but it wasn’t nearly that tall, of course. I think you can still call that a greenhouse, can’t you? Do you foresee replacing the plastic with glass? Or would that be too much of a hassle?
My sister called. She’s going to have knee surgery in January, so I’ll be looking for pointers from FCM and the rest of you. If by some miracle I can see well enough to drive by then, I’d really like to go help out. Our other sister can do it, but her knees are even worse, and she may have heart disease.
Oh, and the friend who was going to drive her two hours to the ortho had knee replacement surgery six months ago. Yesterday, the same friend fell and broke her hip.
For them, “second breakfast” is the evening snack that they get at around 10pm. They have breakfast at ~7am, dinner around ~6pm, and then, as my wife is starting to get ready for bed, she gives them each a little bowl of kibble. They love the kibble (they otherwise eat wet food, to make sure that they get enough water intake), and they gobble it up.
