The "Dave Matthews Band" appreciation thread

So who here likes DMB?

I have been a fan for about 4 years, killer band.

I have seen them twice live, both times in Vancouver. Their concert this summer in Vancouver was awesome. They played a angry/fast version of “Don’t Drink the Water” which blew my mind.

My favorite album would probably be “Crash” followed by “Under the Table and Dreaming” or “Before These Crowded Streets”.

Some of my favorite songs would be:
Satellite
Crash
Crush
Don’t Drink the Water
Ants Marching
Proudest Monkey
Everyday
All Along the Watch Tower

MtM

I’ve seen over 100 DMB shows. I have a firedancer tattoo just above my hooha. I used to be the. biggest. fan. EVER.

But you know what, after the release of the horrible, horrible album whose name cannot be spoken “Everyday” my interest waned. I hated that album. I hate it still. Copies of that album are as useless as AOL 9.0 CDs.

The band was sort of redeemed with the release of Busted Stuff, the cleaned up version of the Lillywhites. I saw some shows on the 2003 tour and I just think the boys have lost their magic.

And don’t get me started on “Some Devil”… what crap.

Hey, tramp, I knew I’d see you in here!

I have been to 15 live shows and will see Dave/Trey, etc. in Boston in December. Sat in the front row at Hartford this year and I count it among the best evenings I have ever spent. Yes, Everyday sucked hard, but I just ignore it and listen to the many, many live concert recordings I have.

Favorite songs? I’ll choose just 10:
Lie in our graves
Bartender
Warehouse
Best of what’s around
#41
Rapunzel
Don’t drink the water
Grace is gone
Halloween
Granny

Thanks for asking, McDeath, always nice to talk to another fan.

(apologies if this double posts)

Not so much a fan of the whole band’s style, although I do love other jam bands that are out there. Still, I really like Dave’s voice and he’s a good songwriter.

The Dave Matthews/Tim Reynolds Live at Luther College album is a perennial favorite of mine.

I thought he was decent for quite a while having heard his pop stuff, but after giving a listen to a few of his CD’s, I’m kind of a fan. Favorite song of his, though not his best, would have to be Grace is Gone. I haven’t heard any of his new stuff and I’ll make sure not to…

I love Under the Table and Dreaming (and own it), but haven’t really liked anything since then. He’s got a great band and can do some original stuff, but just is in a rut; everything he’s done seems to sound the same as what came before.

Are they still together? His new album and Saturday Night Live appearance were solo.

I loved Crash and Under the Table and Dreaming early in my college years (1996-98 or so, when everyone else did too), but I haven’t really been interested in Dave and the band for years. I still think “Two Step” and “Say Goodbye” are beautiful songs, though.

I’ve seen them almost 20 times and have been a huge fan since 1995. They are definitely one of my favorite bands.

They are still together. Dave had some material that he wanted to make outside of the band. The band is going to go back to the studio to record a new album after “Dave and Friends” tours to promote the new solo cd. (I have 3rd row seats for the Allstate Arena concert!)

Also, the band is releasing a new live cd and dvd next week. It was the free concert they did in Central Park back in September. If you pre-order the cd from their website before the 14th it comes with 7 soundboard recordings from last year’s tour.

Dave is awesome…

I don’t know if any of you heard the recordings from Giants Stadium a few years ago… but probably the most amaising concert expirience of my life…

Dave ended the show with Two Step… and as he was singing about the rain in the beginning of the song, it started raining and then thundering… the band got really into it…and EVERYONE in the entire stadium seemed to be jumping around in unison…

It was incredible… (guess you had to be there)

anyway… Dave is one hell of a musician…
I don’t know what he was thinking with “Everyday”

But I love his other albums… yes… even the new solo one… It grew on me.

(AP) Los Angeles – Pop musician Dave Matthews recently revealed that he is finishing a new CD of songs written during his latest tour. “It has a lot of annoying falsetto-singing, incoherent lyrics, and wild guitar strumming,” says Matthews. “I’d like to think it’s a big departure from my previous work, but it’s actually not a departure at all.”

The CD is set to be released in time for Christmas.

I’ve loved DMB for many, many years. I’ve seen them a handful of times in arena settings, but the past few years I’ve stopped trying to get tickets because they sell out in a matter of minutes here.

What’s really great, though, is that I remember going out to the University of Georgia in Athens back in the early 90’s and seeing them play in the small clubs there. Nobody else seems to remember this but me, but I swear I also saw them play at a fraternity party once.

Hey, it’s not my favorite, but I kinda liked Everyday. Why doesn’t anyone else like it? But then again, I really liked the Oakenfold remix of “When the world ends”, so maybe my tastes are a little wonky.

Not a huge DMB fan, but the song ‘Cry Freedom’? Brilliant!

Dont much like Everyday either…
