I thought she did great! She’s not a natural orator, but she did what she needed to do. I was impressed, frankly. It felt good listening and seeing her as our next president.
I do not mean to offend, but human nature it what it is. Bias is inherent in issuing a report that calls for one’s own financial gain, even if that bias might be inadvertent.
My industry is also bound by laws and code of ethics, which we take very seriously. But if we issued a report suing “there isn’t enough money paid to us” you would be correct to take that with a grain of salt.
This. She isn’t a natural orator, but she got the job done.
PA poll taken during first 2 days of DNC had Hillary up by 9 in the State.
Yes; I’ll take ‘stable and competent’ any day over the Arkham Asylum Inmates Drama Club Show that the Republicans have been putting on lately.
Setting aside the relatively progressive agenda, the Democrats, IMO, did a much better Republican convention than the actual Republicans did. Of course, it’s all for naught with the R base, because they are firmly convinced that Hitlery is a lying liar who has somehow, inexplicably, avoiding being indicted for treason only by the skin of her vampire-like teeth and who knows what nefarious back-room deals she and her Machiavellian husband have worked out (sigh).
As far as her speech went, I kinda felt it started off a bit too platitudinous for my taste, but when she got onto actual policy (and the glaring contrast with Trumps’ nearly complete lack of specifics) she did much better.
Money quote of the night, as others have noted: the line about Trump being easily baited with a tweet, although to be fair, it seems like Trump is more often the one who does the tweet-baiting.
Anyway, that’s enough of that. Someone wake me on the morning of the first Tuesday in November.
Donald Trump does not for one instant think he will be humiliated. He believes he can beat Hillary Clinton in a debate. Whether he can or not isn’t relevant.
There’s no way in hell he turns down a free chance to gloat, preen, and bluster before a live nationwide audience. Not a chance in hell. And that’s not even getting into the fact that skipping the debates could be horribly costly in the polls. They’re already set; he has no way to avoid them without looking like a chicken.
Me 3 (also a lesser amount)!
This is a lesson powerful women need to learn, but not powerful men? Why do you think this is a gendered issue?
Well, I’m pretty sure they’re filled with American air, so there’s that.
Apropos of nothing, Megyn Kelly spent the night re-tweeting Hillary’s and Chelsea’s speeches, without comment… except for one:
“Whereupon a woman, a mother, walked out on stage, hugged her daughter and accepted a Presidential nomination.”
People are going apeshit, of course.
Hopefully Cheetoface is outraged.
And I love the fact that after the red, white and blue balloons started coming down, they were joined by lavender ones.
I gotta wonder how Kirkpatrick took to the repetitive kind words said about McCain and his heroism. Yeah, clear why they were said, but y’know while he was a war hero he’s been a bit of spineless spittle dealing with Trump. And he needs to go.
One of my favorite lines was when she reminded that she is far more comfortable with the “service” part of “public service,” than the “public” part.
Her hair isn’t really blonde, but neither is Trump’s, she just does it a lot better. Maybe she should offer Trump some tips as a friendly gesture.
If this convention doesn’t send Clinton/Kaine out of Philly with a *serious *head of steam, then I don’t know anything about politics any more. What a week! So awesome. (Will anyone else admit to having tears streaming down their face in the emotion of the moment?)
I can’t believe there isn’t more commentary on General Allen here. I initially heard it on the radio as well and had my mind blown, then went back to watch the video later. I thought he was absolutely fucking awesome. I mean, I have never had the slightest desire to join the military (quite the opposite, in fact), but this guy had me completely mesmerized. If he shouted through the radio at me to MARCH! I would have followed him into battle, to hell and back, for reals.
And I wasn’t the only one he had this inspiring effect on. David Corn, the progressive writer formerly of The Nation and now at Mother Jones, tweeted the following three thoughts about Allen:
Yes, that was a sick burn.
I give you about a 40% chance of being right. Which is still crazy high, of course.
I don’t know, but if this were North Korea, a lot of people would be getting executed tonight. (Seriously, they are like the world champs at that stuff.)
Kudos! I give her $2 every so often. (It’s all I can afford, and I figure it helps her get her average down a little closer to Bernie territory.)
FWIW, I’m a *yuuuge *Maher/Harris fan, and I don’t agree with **Derek **on this one. I thought that was highly effective politically. (Maybe it would have been nice if his wife got to talk though…just sayin’.)
From what I’ve read, it really sounds like this convention has fired up a good number of the Democratic base, which is probably its most important goal besides the nomination business.
I wonder if the Republican/Trump base experienced anything similar with the Republican convention?
She did an amazing Kate McKinnon impersonation.
Make sure you see the speech of the Muslim father whose son died in Iraq. A major highlight.
If I may support UltraVires for a moment, I think what’s he (or she) is saying is that is IS a gendered issue, not that it should be.
Women have it harder than men, in a lot of ways. One of the ways they have it harder is that a man displaying strength and dominance is more likely to be viewed positively than a woman displaying strength and dominance. Why that is deserves a thread of its own, but it is so. It sucks and it’s not fair, but the unfairness of it is something Clinton must deal with in her quest to be elected President.
