the dickens was wrong so bah humbug mmp

When we were house-hunting after first arriving in this county, the primest of Prime Directives was NO HOA!!! After dealing with having to get permission to install a fence (not even a privacy fence!!) to the one fascist group that did lawn inspections (we were only saved from that because we had a lawn service to try to deal with weeds) well, that set our opinion firmly against such groups. It seems it only takes one or two power mad assholes to turn a neighborhood into a horror.

Daughter, Roxy, and I are all dealing with colds. I’ve got a drippy nose and a sore throat and I slept most of 9 hours last night, but I still feel draggy. I’m thinking not a lot will get done today. I should clean my desk, tho - I just found an overdue bill (why does Medicare still use paper??) and I have no idea what else may be buried here. So maybe that’ll get done. Or not. Who knows?

Happy Sunday!

The more I hear about HOA’s, the more glad I am they’re not really a thing over here. Some of the rules seem to be stricter than for listed buildings here, which are protected buildings deemed to be of historical or cultural importance. At least the rules are pretty well fixed for them, and, well, if you buy a house from the 1700s, whatcha expect?

Generally though, if you wanna build a giant nose on the side of your house, knock yourself out, and pppbbthhhhh to any neighbours without a sense of humour.

Anyway, I’m trying to be all sensible today and do some skool irk. I have a week off before irk starts, I should make the most of it and start the new year on top of things. I can hope. I should stop distracting myself with the internet really…

This house was on the market for the longest time - I guess it takes a special buyer to want such a unique use of siding… Personally, I’d rather see a giant nose - that’s interesting!

Happy Sunday!

We got home from the park just as it started to rain.
Supposed to rain all day and be in teh 40s.

House cleaning party got cancelled. Friend3 had been let go from her job a few weeks ago due to lack of irk. She got a call asking her to come back and so she is irking today. Friend2 is sick. I thought about going anyway, but I’m going to stay home and irk instead.
We rescheduled for the 12th.

I need to do some laundry today.

It’s dreary out there - rain promised later. I think I’ll go cook up a big pot of sketty sauce and maybe some sloppy joes. The freezer is getting low on easy meals.

Morning all. Stayed in bed until 8am, so need to let the house warm up a bit. Rainy but 66F and supposed to get close to 70F again. Need to get bread from the store and exchange the toner cartridge today, outside of that not much on the schedule.

All y’all have a good Sunday.

… and there’s a big pot of sketty sauce simmering away, eventually to be packed for the freezer, and a smaller pot of sloppy joes simmering for tonight’s supper. Go me!

It’s started raining. I’m about to assume the afghaning position.

Tis a rainy Sunday morning in middle Tennessee.

Not much on the agenda today, so playing fetch with Nelson and working in the studio are on the list.

We have property owners association in my hood but I have never seen anything from it like meeting notices and we don’t pay anything to them.

I am fighting off a slight cold.

Happy Sunday everyone!

That one is Windows – I’m OS/Mac. I’m also thinking more free and that looks to be some sort of trial on a subscription. I’ll have to search around the MacHead boards next year.

Rain ------ and I volunteered for an emergency shift later tonight. And possibly tomorrow night as well. With the first off its going to be a short week so what the heck? Someone has to do it.

Yes ----- yes I am. I’ll never grow up.

Up, caffeinated ,and sheveled. It’s warm and cloudy, and it rained overnight. Took Gordie out for a long walk to fight off The Invisible Mole People. Gonna go watch the Packers play the Lions in a bit.

I thought the Iggles was the early game but your game is on. That means I’ll be inside to watch both the early & late games for the first time this season (I don’t think I can sit for that long; I’ve never binged watched a show; I rather be outside - only 11,000+ steps for the day, so far)…& I already agreed to make dinner tonight. Hopefully it’ll be an early blowout so I don’t need to watch the whole game carefully. :frowning:

There was something like this in the neighborhood where I grew up. All I remember about it was the Christmas door decoration contest. I won one year. Didn’t get anything by recognition.

It was a neighborhood of row houses built around 1950 - I don’t know if HOAs were even invented back then!

Never lived in a neighborhood with a HOA. Mid-daughters condo assn. Is brutal. She get dinged regularly for her yapping dogs and kids toys out side.
Some group came around putting menus on doors of carry out restuarants. She neglected to remove them and got a note on the same door from the assn.:smack:
I’m feeling good today. Tomorrow I get probed and poked and drained of blood at the surgeons clinic. My kidney surgery date will be scheduled as well. I’m kinda nervous about Lefty and Pancho (my kidneys). DIL is outta town, Mr.Wrekker and the lil’wrekker will accompany me tomorrow.

Considering the discussion of HOA’s, I j.Just saw this from one of my favorite cartoon strips: Pearls Before Swine by Stephan Pastis for December 28, 2019 - GoComics so I’m glad I ate out and traded in the Toner cartridge before noon. Actually got $4.36 back.

Been watching some tackleball, taking a break from it until it gets closer to the end and then I’ll see if any of the games are interesting.

Take care all.

Quiet except for the doggy drama this afternoon (not involving Nelson this time).

I had just brought him in from his constitutional during the lull in the rain when I heard all hell break loose outside. I stepped outside to see the lab mix from the next building and the apartment manager’s yellow lab going at it. It seems that the manager’s teenage daughter was walking their two dogs (yellow lab and a small Benji mutt) when the lab mix jumped the little guy. The yellow lab jumped in to protect the little guy and did a number on the lab mix. When the daughter tried to separate them, she was bitten (not sure which dog).

The lab mix needed stitches, but the [del]freeloader[/del] dogsitter didn’t have a car, the money to take her to the vet and couldn’t contact the owner. The maintenance guy (the mastiff’s human two doors down) loaded the lab mix up and took her to the vet on his dime 'cause he’s an animal lover. The manager took her daughter to the convenience care place to get the bite checked out and called animal control. The maintenance guy had already made a complaint about the lab mix and the manager took my statement about the other night.

It seems that the dog’s owner, while listing the dog and all, doesn’t bother listing the dogsitters he gets on the lease (kind of a temp setup for both). The lease requires anyone staying more than seven days be listed. Oops! I’m guessing that eviction proceedings may be beginning. I still feel sorry for the lab mix.

So much for a completely quiet Sunday.
