Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN OYKW is still abed enjoyin’ his first official day of retirement. ‘Tis 52 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 59 with rain most of the day. Or not. TWPTB are willy-nilly on this. Today’s plan is to go over to the church house to take care of a few chores and prep stuff for the Big Feast on Wednesday, aka Christmas. It will be a quiet affair with six of us gettin’ together to feast and make merry. Lookin’ forward to that.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas and bother, I must needs purtify and don appropriate bein’ about the public attire.
Morning all. The bag is packed and I’ll finish off the bread supplies by making sammiches for the journey. Rain expected up to Nashville but temps in the 50’s and 60’s F so not bad.
House is relatively clean, laundry baskets are empty, and dishes all in their proper places.
Hang in there, shady, and find at least something to laugh about this Holiday, even if it is something ridiculous.
Daughter, etc, arrived just before 7, and they’re currently trying to get Roxy to sleep. She barely slept for the trip, poor baby.
I need to go to Wal-Mart or Best Buy for a WI-FI adapter. FCD is giving his laptop to his folks and the adapter is at home, Dammit. The sun is out but more rain is promised later. I should go while it’s nice out…
Went to the park early, then I came home early before anybody else got there. I’m feeling icky, and so I wanted to get home. I didn’t sleep so well last night, was hot and cold all night long.
Both dogs were brats about leaving today, even Ripple gave me a hard time.
It’s 27 degrees and N.O.S. outside, an improvement over 18.
Have a safe trip MetalMouse.
Not much on the agenda today. Maybe get out there and clean up the leaves we didn’t get to yesterday. I usually clean the kitchen on Moonday, but I don’t know if I feel up to it today. It’s a bit of a mess as I have some boxes from da jungle in there that need to be unpacked, and the table needs to be cleaned off.
I hate horizontal surfaces, cleaning would be so much easier without them.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Afternoon hockey today.
Well, I hope it get a little better for you. If not, part of today’s Festivus activities is The Airing of Grievances.
I GOT A LOT OF PROBLEMS WITH YOU PEOPLE, AND NOW YOU’RE GONNA HEAR ALL ABOUT THEM!.
: looks at Flytrap :
:D;)
Now that I’m a growed up, I don’t care about holidays. I stopped believing in Santa Claus because he never brought me a pony. So I bought one of my own. Going to a friend’s for Christmas Eve dinner, spending Christmas Day with the pony I bought with my own money. We are having spring weather in no. Illinois. Today is sunny and close to 50 degrees. No chance of a white Christmas sadly.
One of my granddaughters and her husband will be in the area over Christmas (job related), so we’ll have some family company for the day. Making ham and scalloped potatoes, as they’re not very adventurous eaters. I’m also making a chocoflan cake for desert, which is a nice ‘gee whiz’ dessert.
My wife is big on her Polish heritage, so we’ll be doing a traditional Polish Christmas Eve meal.
We went to the Christmas Revels play/musical yesterday, which was quite entertaining. Welcome Yule!
I wanted to eyeball the bank account before Mr and I gird up to go shopping.
(pause for hysterical crying)
I saw debits to “Postmates” in San Francisco. I came down hard om Mr VOW, because it was HIS debit card. He professed innocence.
While he is trying to call our bank, I’m wondering if the escape artist dog has run off to SF with one of her gutter trash dates and Grandpa’s card number?
Son-in-law clears up the confusion. Mr VOW offered his card to pay for our pizza delivery the other night. Sure gotta wonder why Little Caesar’s in the Inland Empire would get a San Francisco delivery service?
Moral to the story: check your accounts often, question everything!
And the bad bad bad BAD little doggie still is not back home.
Afternoon from N.O.S. and warm (50F) Central Illinois near St. Louis. Despite that, there is still snow on the ground at the farms east of here, so it was cold and wet not to long ago. Drive was easy, rain stopped south of Nashville and it was clear the rest of the way, traffic was moderately heavy in places but lots of it was pretty empty, and I had enough time to visit the Casino (and the Giant Superman statue) in Metropolis, IL. The statue was nice and the casino only took $25 out of my pocket (I was dead even but decided to try only last bet for $25 and 18 don’t beat 19.
Took my new laptop with me, between my brother, SIL, and three kids that grew up on computers, maybe they can untangle the mess I’ve made (typing this at the local library).
Vow, check my accounts weekly at least, sometime more if I’ve been busy with them.
Cookie, ham and scalloped potatoes sound pretty good to me.
FCM, glad the kids made it, hope they get re-calibrated by Xmas.
I am cleaning out the fridge. It’s my most hated household chore. I really wish all foods and their containers self-destructed when they were on the verge of no-goodness. Yes, I’m whining.
Downstairs neighbor’s kid just came up with a Christmas gift and a hug for me. I didn’t get them anything because we didn’t exchange last year. Good thing I have a smallish box of See’s tucked away for just such an occasion. I have to wrap it, though. I guess it’ll be obvious it’s a generic gift, but better than no gift at all, I hope.
Mrs. L.A. has been complaining that the door of the glove compartment in her RAV4 was hanging open and wouldn’t close. I’ve been too busy to look at it; or else when I do have the time, I forget. When she got home from her patient today, I went right out and looked at it.
There was something preventing it from closing. I couldn’t get my hand behind it to feel for an obstruction. Somehow, I figured out that the sides can be bent in, allowing lugs on the side of the box to disengage from slots. The hinges at the bottom just snap off. It turns out that there is a fusebox (I think) behind the glove compartment, and the cover had fallen off. I popped the cover back on, and… Well, there was more. There’s a piston on the right side of the glove compartment so that it opens smoothly instead of just clunking down. It took me several (many) tries to figure out how to put the piston back on.
And now Mrs. L.A. has a functioning glove compartment in her RAV.
Howdy Y’all! I survived OYKW’s first day of retirement! Actually it was a nice day. I went and did chores this mornin’ and he started on spiffin’ da cave. I got back and we finished that up and chillaxed for a while. He went to Walgreen’s to pick up the prescription I forgot to pickup whilst out this mornin’, bless his heart. I made sup which consisted of cubed steak 'n gravy, smashed N.O.T., peas and Texas toast. He cleaned up after we supped. I think this will work out.
MetalMouse glad you made it safe and sound. I’ve seen the Superman statue. Back in the day (irk days) I was in Paducah, KY <snerk> KY <snerk> and drove to Metropolis just to see the statue. I figure it would be a shame to be that close and not go.
MOOOOOOM glad the young’uns made it safe and sound. Hope RoxStar and they got some sleep.
Nellie chawklit is always a welcome gift so I’m sure they will enjoy the candy.
In other news, I went out to charge the MGB batteries earlier. There were sparks, the charger was buzzing as it never had, and the jump cables were getting hot!. I disconnected the negative ground cable (it’s been converted to negative earth) and charged the batteries for a couple/few hours. Reconnecting the ground cable, I turned the key. The car started immediately. And I mean immediately. I don’t think that car has ever started that fast. I let it run for about 15 or 20 minutes.
Yesterday we went to the community theatre’s production of The Holiday Channel Christmas Movie Wonderthon (Hilarious!), followed by Thai food at the local restaurant.
From last week, beck, Tennessee still has a few dry counties. Up until about ten years ago, my county didn’t sell hard liquor or alcohol by the drink. They were both voted in to get hotels and restaurants. We just got wine in grocery stores a couple of years ago.
Glad you’re having a good trip metal mouse.
Irked a full day today and will likely only irk halves Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. I’m ready for some time off that doesn’t involve driving somewhere and cooking for someone else.
Busy busy day at irk. Expect more of the same tomorrow. After we close we are tacking a blanket up over the glass doors and having ourselves a little Christmas party to include rotisserie chicken and homemade Mac and cheese and green bean casserole (yuk). I contributed a couple bottles of champagne so we shall also enjoy a glass. Only one for me as I am not wanting to get locked up on Christmas Eve. One of my clerks has a new Labradoodle puppy that shall also make an appearance. If I am in a good mood when I get up ( not likely) I will take Buddyboy as he needs an outing. I shall also use my lunch break early like 0930 for a grocery trip.
I am tahred and it’s only Moanday fercryingoutloud. After Christmas it’s only two more irk days then weekend then one and a half days and a day and a half off then two days and weekend. Gotta love this time of the year.
I got a jury duty notice beginning on the 6th of January. Here we have to call each day after 5PM to see if we are required to report. Calling each day does not count as having served. I really don’t have time for it at the beginning of the month so hopefully I won’t have to report. I wish they would accidentally wipe my info from their database.
Happy almost Christmas Eve. I noticed coming home that the local churches are having carols on Christmas Eve. I would like that but hubby shan’t have anything to do with a church. We have an invite for Christmas night dinner with friends but I don’t wanna go so we aren’t going.
