the dickens was wrong so bah humbug mmp

Mid-daughter and entourage got in a coupla hours ago. Food has been eaten. Dogs have been walkies. Gossip has been exchanged. She’s trying to get her boys to sleep. They are pretty revved up. I’m afraid it’s gonna take awhile.
The Chihuahuas are strangely quiet. They’ve commandeered one of the dog beds. Yorkie Grace is confused. Beagle Betsy just wants their food.
Siamese cats are giving me the stink eye from the beams. It’s getting close to their snack time. We’ll see if they come down. They hate company.
Have a happy Christmas eve day tomorrow, all mumpers.
Nellie- I cleaned my fridge Saturday. It’s a mess already.

Misery really does love company–THIS company, at least! It must have been National Clean Your Fridge Day, aka It Beats a Root Canal Day. I don’t know why I hate it so. Maybe it’s because my ex insisted that in a well-run house, there are no uneaten leftovers, and a fridge that needs cleaning out is a sign of failed housewifery. I was married to that kind of thing for far too long.

I love reading about what everyone’s having for Christmas dinner. Over here it’ll be an odd combination. Growing up, we had Mom’s pared-down version of the Feast of the Seven Fishes on Christmas Eve and lasagna Christmas Day. But since son-in-law isn’t Italian (though he loves Italian food), I’m also baking a glazed ham and making raised cornbread with bacon and green chilis. Plus spinach salad. Christmas cookies for dessert. I have a special old family recipe my daughter craves–time-consuming, but worth it.

Got present to neighbor. She invited me down for Christmas morning, but I’ll probably be cooking. Then a friend dropped by. I took out trash and got to the gym. Now I shall shower off the sweat and start making sauce for lasagna.

And chefguy, I want to know about the Polish feast, too. I hope pierogi are involved.

LOL VIQUEENS!

At least one of my sports teams got it done today.

Everyone’s internal clock was off yesterday - Here’s hoping today is better. I got up stoopit early with Higgs so my poor sweetie could sleep some more. We’re stuck in the full-size bed, with the dog!! So lots less space than our king shared with a fidgeter. Two more nights of that, then we get our own bed back.

Today, Daughter, etc, are going to our old area near Jax to visit some of her old friends. So they won’t get back here till late. Unfortunately, Cozmo will remain here and I have to keep a sharp eye on him - he “marks” everything. I take him outside to keep his bladder empty… fun, huh? Other than that, no plans today.

Tomorrow’s dinner will be turkey and ribs, smashed N.O.T.s and gravy, cabbage, and green beans, and cheesecake and pumpkin pie for dessert. I’m stuffed just thinking about it!! I’m terrified of my scale once we get home…

Happy Christmas Eve, all!!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 48 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 72 and partly cloudy (mostly N.O.S.?) for the day. Today we shall prep for tomorrow’s feast. Not a huge amount of stuff to do, however. I made extra dressin’ when I made the stuff for Turkey Day and froze it, so ‘tis now in da fridge thawin’ and will just need to be baked tomorrow. The menu shall be turkey breast, dressin’ 'n giblet gravy, butterbeans, squish casserole, cranberry sauce, rolls, and ambrosia and cheesecake for dessert. The ambrosia and cheesecake need to be made today and I’ll probably go ahead and get the squish ready so it’ll just need to be baked tomorrow. Plus also, need to do some laundry. We shall sup on steak, baked N.O.T., sallit, and cheesey garlic bread tonight. Tonight we shall also attend Christmas Mass and I shall have ush duty.

Sounds like a bunch of y’all have some nummy eats planned for tomorrow. Hope everything goes well.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Tuesday and Christmas Eve Y’all!

Irking. Well at irk. Haven’t really done any irk yet. In a bit I shall brave the grocery store. Nothing like waiting until the last minute.

Merry Christmas Eve everyone!

Up, caffeinated and sheveled. It’s going to be 60 today, so a typical N.C. Christmas Eve.

:eek::eek::eek:

Good morning. This is my first message from my new laptop, my brother managed to unscrew the mess I made (and only got grumpy with me twice). Been busy paying attention to the Niece’s Mastiff and Nephew’s bloodhound (whose name should be Mayhem, because he’s under 2 and causes a lot of it). Not sure what we’re having for dinner tomorrow, that’s up to my SIL, but I am treating the family to early dinner today (the kids are in and out due to work/school).

Becks, at least you have small dogs. Besides the Mastiff (190lbs) and the bloodhound (100 lbs), there are two aging Bassets averaging 50-60 lbs and all of them think they are lap dogs, so it’s been a lot of work. Your cats would be in a coma by now.

All y’all have a good XMAS

And Alex Catt just hornked on the couch.

Made it in and out of the store in a flash and also found a small ham. I was affeered I would wind up with a monster ham and be eating it for a week. The one I got will only last several days. I am officially done spending money. Not another cent.

Good morning, you guys. Trying to get this kitchen squared away. Too many cooks will get the better of me, if I’m not careful.
Prep has begun for tomorrow.
I need to get onto some lunch. There was talk of taking the kids out for Pizza and a look about town as a activity. God I wish that would happen. Soon. I gots pies to make.
SIL put my Lasagna together for tonight. He’s a pro Chef. He swore he didn’t change the recipe. And, he marveled at my homemade Tomato sauce, I canned this summer. I may gift him with coupla quarts. I ain’t braggin’ but it is good.
Well, back to tasks at hand.
Happy day y’all !!

Well, it’s not a real traditional meal, as that’s 12 dishes that includes fish, sauerkraut, etc. Ours will definitely involve pirogi and also mushroom soup, but we’re skipping the fish, I think. There is no meat involved, as traditionally, the Polish don’t eat meat on Wigilia (vigil) out of respect for the animals in the manger. Things will start with a bite of opłatek, which is a very thin, tasteless wafer. Tradition is that the man of the house makes a wish for the coming year prior to eating the wafer.

I’m actually more interested in Christmas morning, as there will be kielbasa with eggs, and the lovely babka that she already made using a very old handwritten recipe, and chock full of walnuts and cinnamon. The smell of the cinnamon from that thing is driving me crazy. Actually, after looking on wiki, I think I can convince her that we should have it tonight instead of waiting, as it’s also part of the traditional Christmas Eve food.

Happy Toosday!

Merry Christmas Eve!

It was a not so horrible 25 degrees when we went to the park this morning. It’s a N.O.S. 41 degrees now, supposed to get up to 46.

I wish I had changed my irk hours this morning to start later, it was a nice day at the park and I would have like to have stayed longer.

Still don’t have firm plans for tomorrow. I was going to leave around 7 and get to the armpit around 9ish, and then leave for home when everybody leaves for Niece1’s house. But then I realized, all the gifts will be there, and I’d have to make another trip to pick them up. So I may just go later.

No idea what we are eating. I don’t know if my mother will have anything, although with 5 full time and 2 part time people living there there is always something to eat. Niece1 will probably have a ham, scrambled eggs, biscuits, fried potatoes, and the breakfast casserole that is hash browns, sausage, eggs, and cheese. Then there will be cookies, or brownies, or cake, or pie, or any combination thereof.
I suppose I should ask it I should bring something.
Haope it won’t be a repeat of last year where she texted me when I was almost there to tell me not to come. I can’t remember what went wrong, but then it was back on and I needed to bring something, so I had to drive around looking for some place open to pick up some food. If I have to, there is a small turkey breast and 2 small pork roasts in the freezer. I think you can put a frozen turkey breast in the InstaPot.

I need to make some phone calls.

Besides irk, and phone calls, I need to straighten up the house a bit and pack up some stuff for us to take tomorrow - dog food and stuff. My son is already charging his tablet. I have to remember my phone charger because he will be using my phone as a hot spot and that runs down the battery pretty quickly.

I always feel like the house needs to be spotless when I go away for the day. I remember reading in the paper years ago about a house that had been burglarized, and the house was such a mess the burglars left the home owners a note telling them they need to clean their house.
Stupid, I know.

I did a deep cleaning of the fridge last week, not any leftovers but purchased stuff, in some cases unopened, like crescent rolls with a 2018 date on them. Old jar of mustard that was way in the back, etc.

Irish stew.
I is away for the week  :frowning: …& forgot to bring all sorts of stuff, including a timely present, some photos, & most importantly, an Xmas eve drink. :frowning: :frowning: :frowning:

Morning flight/party was cxl’d due to the wind so I went out for sunrise photos, instead.

I’m really worried about my in-laws. FCD went with his dad to get a bag of ice and his dad very nearly caused an accident by cutting someone off without looking. Plus he got confused and made a wrong turn and it was just 2 miles from home. I fear we’ll get a call from the ER one day…

On the plus side, the lap robe is nearly finished. And I tossed a small load in the washer. Exciting day here…

Made it through irk and home. Exhausted. Our little pot luck went great. I am over the holidays already. House is messy. Gifts need wrapping. Dog needs attention and I need a nap. Hubs is resting as he is puny again. He now wants to find a different cardiologist which is ok by me but all that ain’t gonna happen over the holidays. I swear when he doesn’t feel well I don’t feel well. So we are both puny.

Blurf
Here’s hoping everyone is where they need to be and all the work is worth it. Merry Christmas.

Oh, I so feel for the clerks at a grocery store where I shopped earlier.

For one thing, there wasn’t even a space open in the parking lot, the store was as busy as I’ve ever seen it, with all the registers open, and all with lines, long lines.

Another, their credit card system had gone down, and, while partially up, was still chancy at best. Some folks cards would not be accepted, and folks were actually having to write checks! I had cash, thank heavens.

I told the cashier I hoped folks were treating them right, and if a longer wait in line was the worst thing that happened to them, then they were lucky.

I feel a nap coming on. I shouldn’t need one, but I want one.

Christmas meals have been switched around. My mother is having ham, potato salad, and macaroni salad (with shrimp). Niece1 is having bagels and doughnuts. Niece1 usually has everybody over around 1, tomorrow we are supposed to be there by 10:30. I hope to be out of here by 7, but it will probably be closer to 8.

I clean out my fridge every Sunday, which is the day trash goes out. Sometimes on Saturday.

I did that two months ago, but it was one of those “Public Safety” power cuts that left me in the dark for four days. On Day Two, I emptied the contents of the icky warm fridge and scrubbed it out.

I seem to be the one killing the board today.
I know I would love to kill the horn of the car that belongs to whoever it is that picks up the dumb bitch across the street.

I suppose I should be making a list
