the dickens was wrong so bah humbug mmp

I feel decidedly lazy. It has been a good day as far as my health goes. I have lots of help and lots of happy grandwreks swarming around.
Ya’ll have a nice and joyful Christmas Eve.

Merry Christmas Eve, everyone!

Went to the store this morning to get more ricotta, since they put the wrong size in my order yesterday. It wasn’t as crazy-busy as it has been. I couldnt find the ricotta and had to ask. They didn’t know what I was talking about. So I made myself say it very American-style, no rolling R’s, no hitting the double-T hard, and no lopping off the last syllable. Eureka. I know better. I just wasn’t thinking. (That’ll be on my tombstone.) Then I stopped at the liquor store to pick up items I forgot the other day. Got home and immediately got a call from my hairstylist asking where I was. Oops. Dashed over there, and now I look fabulous while cooking here alone.

Chefguy, I’m wondering if the Italian Feast of the Seven Fishes doesn’t come from the same principle as the Polish no-meat tradition. I mean, no fish in the stable, right?

FCM, that is very worrisome. Before my mom gave up driving (on her own, thank heavens)j, I used to worry about her–not because of bad driving but because she wouldn’t drive when we were there. Is there anybody you know living close to FCD who might have more occasion to see him drive?

the dickens was wrong so bah humbug mmp

I’ve said this before but in my clan we have an expression that goes one step further some years — BAH! HUMF*CK!

We weighed our various options and other than church we’re basically doing “Jewish Christmas” — a movie or maybe two and Chinese take-out just for us. Not in a sad way but more just a time to be quiet and restful sort of way. We haven’t done anything like that all year and its time to correct that. No work for me until Friday (I volunteered) but the OW heads back Thursday so — it was just the right thing to plan.

I would say “curse MNF” but clearly MNF has beaten me to it. I think that makes Cousins personally 0-13 now and the over-all team record isn’t too terribly much better. Plus you add that it was the Pack and ------- I had hopes. But not enough to sacrifice more than one chicken. If I can find a reliable souse I have plans to get

after the holidays. Hell – I would be proud to wear that any time!

Couldn’t say. I think it’s more a Catholic holdover about abstinence than it is about the animals, but they’re probably tied together. It’s interesting that Christmas day is not a big deal in much of that part of the world. It’s more a day of rest and visiting family. My wife says that when she was a child, her parents would drag her and her sisters to every shirttail relative’s house in Buffalo on the day, and bring a present for each of them, regardless of closeness. Of course, she grew up in an assimilated family who observed the American style of celebration, but who also observed traditions from the old country. She’s 3rd generation American.

Driving the MGB today felt like driving a sleigh. With a heater.

Evening all. Took the family out to an early dinner (Olive Garden) and then we came home and exchanged gifts (a custom from my Sis-in-laws family). Got what I wanted (a new collapsible wagon for my soccer stuff) and the rest got mostly clothes from each other. They are off to church shortly (the Heathen will abide).

Temperature is in the 50’s but there is still snow on the ground here.

Have a merry Xmas all y’all.

cookie, some of your Christmas eve supper sounds like my grandparents (first gen German American grandmother and Polish immigrant grandfather). I recall that oyster stew and smoked herring and carp were on the menu in addition to the pierogi, haluski, those nasty little communion wafers :stuck_out_tongue: , saffron buns and more sweet stuff than you could shake a stick at.

I hope that you and your hubby are feeling better and he finds a new cardiologist soon butters.

I knocked off ~one today, walked the critter to a couple of neighbors’ to drop off cards (and toys for the neighbor dogs, Kobe and Snoop), then on to the dog park. I’ve also done some housekeeping in the studio and will prep the next project. I’ll go out to hear a friend play at a local pub for a couple of hours this evening and he’ll go for Thai/Lao food with me tomorrow.

Enjoy your Christmas eve, y’all!

Nothing says Christmas Eve like a trek to the ER. A neighbor called MIL for help because her husband had fallen and couldn’t get up. So they all went over to help while I cleared up after supper. Apparently FIL fell over there and sliced his ear and skinned his arm. He’s on blood thinners, so there was much blood, and when FCD was cleaning it, he discovered it needed stitches. So they’re off to the ER and I’m here waiting for Daughter, etc, to return.

Ho ho ho…

It was a nice sunny day. Took Gordie for a long walk, and did laundry since somebody hornked on the couch cover.

I shall get into the Christmas spirit for you. Which is Bulliet rye tonight.

Trust me, they will take it out on the staff.:frowning:

Happy Christmas Beck!

:p;) And we spotted you 3 possestion in the first half.:smack:

Did not see any of the vintage British cars today, but I was behind a Ferrari 328 on the way home from laundry.

Oh no. I hope he does alright. I am always nervous on holidays thinking someone will get hurt or ill and need an ER.
good luck

Trying to get my ipad to irk. I won it from irk a while back and never used it. Or thought I never did. My son wants to take it tomorrow. First it kept asking for a password, which I didn’t remember setting up. It seems I did and in the middle of a chat with apple I told my son to try one and it irked. It seems I had already set up wi-fi. I do not remember doing all that. Now he can’t get into google or bing or whatever he wants to use.
I’ve never had anything apple, I don’t know how to make it irk.

Hope FIL is okay FCM I used to take blood thinners, doesn’t take much to make a lot of blood when you do. He probably shouldn’t be driving either, but people don’t like to give up their freedom. Unless they are my mother, she hates to drive and feels like she shouldn’t be anyway.

Howdy Y’all! We prepped stuff for tomorrow, binge watched some Netflix, made and et sup and in a little while shall head over to the church house to bring in Jesus’ birthday. All in all quite a pleasant day here at da cave. I am all spiffed and ready to go and OYKW is finishin’ up gettin’ spiffed.

MOOOOOOM hope FIL is OK.

Butters hope hubby and you are feelin’ better.

Everyone else, hope y’all are havin’ a good Christmas Eve.

I’m sure you’re right about the Catholic influence. My mother’s family was dirt poor in Italy and not much better off here. I think that’s probably the real reason for the Feast of the Three Fishes instead of Seven they really couldn’t afford more than that. It was always linguini with clams, linguini with anchovies, and smelts. My mom made some mean smelts. I think back in Italy they had some sort of eel dish (not capitone fritto), but we kids were wusses and wouldn’t eat that, so smelts it was.

My mom always said in Italy Christmas was about Mass and visiting family. Any gifts they got were more like trinkets. The gift exchange–much more modest than the American tradition–happened on Epiphany.

I’m exhausted but am not done cooking.

On Manhattan #2, and listening to Gregorian Christmas chants, so yeah.

And they’re back after getting patched up and having a CAT scan since he’d hit his head. Thankfully it was a quick trip and he seems to be in good spirits. So there’s that.

My Christmas Eve would be a lot better if 1) I wasn’t irking until 11 and 2) I wasn’t dealing with an ipad.

I’m boycotting apple anyway, but I guess since I already had the ipad it’s okay to use it. Now we’re trying to get everything on it out of my name and into my son’s name.
Everybody tells me apple products are so easy to use. I don’t think so.

You and sonny boy will figure it out. I think you will like Apple. I love my iPad.

Mooomm dang. Glad he is OK. Bitch getting old.

I feel better just awfully tired for no real reason. I still didn’t wrap those gifts yet but will try to get up early and do it. I only have a few for hubs and lots for the dog and cat.

Merry Christmas everyone!

You have a heater? When I was a kid we had to drive Triumphs. :stuck_out_tongue:

We’re in central Orygun again, just the two of us. We’re eating whatever the Hell we want to. Tonight we had pork chops with baked potato and pickled red cabbage. Tomorrow night we’re having linguini with clam sauce and a salad. Not big on traditions, either one of us.

Nevertheless; Merry Christmas to them as celebrate it, and Happy Holiday to the rest of yez!

Dear Santa,
I can explain…

Home from midnight mass (which being Lutherans we held at 9:30) and older for the experience. Fog was so thick you could only see about 40 feet and the road temps were like 31 which meant a little black ice here and there. It was interesting. I could do without interesting.
Tomorrow will be near 60 but they say we’re getting snow Monday. :smack:

Happy Christmas to all!

Nothing much going on around here. The hubs is still OTR. He’ll probably get back home sometime today. So, any so-called ‘festivities’ are on hold until he gets here. Then, I foresee a nice nap. Dinner will be lasagna, which I have already assembled, and I’ll just need to throw it into the oven. Breadsticks, on the side, as well. Seems easy enough.
It’s warm, here. West central Indiana is going to get into the 60s, later today. Very un-Christmas-like. I am not amused.
Humbug.
