You can get anything you can possibly imagine. Collars and tags for your pet, ice cube trays, cheese boards and cheese knives, a photo book of his time in the White House, for $74.99, a crew neck sweater for $77, marked down from $110. If you golf, a cover for you driver for $50
There is a physical store about 10 miles from where I live, I gotta walk in someday to hear the sales pitch. There is a sign out front saying the rightful President is coming back, with a quote from the book of Zechariah
It is real in that it was in an email appeal for money. Whether or not the King of Grift would deliver it would require an experiment I am not willing to undertake.
But you’re a couple days too late for me. I’d love to have bought a dozen or two last week and taken them with me to my annual training later this week in Central Trumpville. I’d be salting the men’s rooms all over campus with those. Sadly, even if I ordered some right now they won’t arrive in time for my trip.
John Podhoretz - former speechwriter for Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush so old school Republican I guess. He was a big supporter of W. and the Iraq War. Currently editor for Commentary magazine. His father is Norman Podhoretz who is also a political writer and identifies as a paleo-conservative.
I’ve always thought John is an anti-Trumper but Norman went form anti- to pro-Trump in 2019.
That is a GREAT article. Whether one is a traditional principled conservative, a left-of-center Democrat, or a social agenda Progressive there is a LOT to learn in there. IMO he nailed it.
Whether one agrees with where Podhoretz would want to take the country, it’s very, very hard to disagree with what he has to say about Trump and the Republican’s only successful path forward.
I certainly hope the R party officialdom & rank and file never listens to anything this guy says. It’ll make life a lot nicer for Ds like me.
I think we will point to today as the effective end of his campaign. The trading card scam is just so pathetic. I’ll bet Nate Silver and Galen Druke will do an emergency FiveThirtyEight podcast to analyze the sudden plunge of Trump’s popularity to the 10% floor of true, true, true believers*.
DeSantis must have jumped for joy when he heard about the superhero trading card travesty.
*That is, about half (at most) of what Podhoretz well characterized as:
“The red-hot center is made up of the people he once said would not care if he shot someone on Fifth Avenue. People have taken to calling it the “Republican base,” but it isn’t. It’s the Trump base, and it’s a new political force—overwhelmingly male, overwhelmingly rural, almost entirely outside the country’s education-industrial complex, and relatively voiceless until Trump came along to speak for it.”
This shows how seriously he’s taking this “campaign”. His stable genius brain comes up with this brilliant NFT idea, and he’s just taking all the money for himself rather than using the huge influx of money this will no doubt attract for the campaign.
Well, yes. I’m no RW sympathizer. A pox on all their houses.
But if the principled conservatives, the ones who benefit mostly unconsciously from hereditary upper-middle class male whiteness, are to take back the party from the morons & Nazis, they need to heed what he said. That won’t make the R party any less white, any less male, or any less rich. But it will make it far less evil and authoritarian.
I’ll take an opposition that stands for stuff I don’t like but isn’t evil or willing to kick over the chess board any day.
