I would ask just the opposite what does it take to stay out of the pit these days?
Huh. Following Lizard’s kind mention (thanx), I was going to nominate myself for Poster who has been around the longest and has around 1000 posts or more who is only just now starting to show up in these sorts of ‘fave’ threads, and is wondering what the frick took so long.
But then it occurs to me it would be more gracious to nominate someone else instead, so let me put three names up for the Top ten most underrated and unfairly forgotten posters (how does that sound?): ianzin, Colibri, and Biggirl.
So instead, I’ll nominate myself for the Top ten posters with around 1000 posts or more who have thus far managed to avoid getting seriously flamed in the Pit. Yeah, that seems reasonable.
Oh, and one more: katrina is the Poster I’m most happy to be married to.
And finally, I nominate this message for Most gratuitous and annoyingly egregious use of boldface.
How about **Posters who have earned respect with their insight, arcane knowledge or humor? **
There are posters whose name I recognize with a small frisson of delight because I have learned to pay attention when they post:
1.Fenris who is highly knowledgable in SF, and whose series on moderator origins is a certifiable masterpiece.
2.CalMeacham who is often a voice of calm reason amid the shouting
3.Hi, Opal! for her “love” of lists
4.BigStar303 who flat out knows rock & roll history
5.Mjolnir ditto, and much else
6.AuntiePam who has demonstrated considerable empathy
and a half dozen more who shall remain unnamed, so that I can avoid offending the other 12,954 registered dopers.
