The douchebag of the day thread

I’m going to start with defense attorney Christos Vasiliades and his associate Edgar Ivan Rodriquez, of Baltimore, who told the husband of a rape victim that the Trump administration would deport his wife if she testified against their client. Vasiliades also told the husband that he would let the husband beat up his client, and then offered him $3000 to drop the case.

Is that enough for a disbarrment?

It is enough for behind-barsment. Another story I’ve seen gives a potential jail sentence measured in hundreds of years. (Don’t remember if it was 100+ or 300+)

So - Self-correcting problem. Though certainly epic levels of sleaze.

The ensuing felony convictions are. They’re apparently both charged with obstruction and witness intimidation.

Douchebag of the day? That would have to be Mick “The Prick” Mulvaney, natch.

Too many Douch-Bags, not enough days.

Ayup.

Terry Frei of the Denver Post wins today and is in the running for Mr. May Douchebag. He was “very uncomfortable with a Japanese driver winning the Indianapolis 500 during Memorial Day weekend”. Seriously? Memorial Day weekend means that no other nationals are allowed to have any accomplishments during that weekend? Shall we bench all non-American MLB players just in case one of them should homer this weekend and offend bigoted Americans? A just firing by the Denver Post. What a fuckwad.

It was unfortunate language, but is it possible that this guy just made a mistake? Seriously, one poorly-worded tweet, post, statement, or whatever and his career is over? See, this is the sort of thing that fuels Trumpism. I’m fine with confronting him and suspending him for a week or whatever. But one mistake and the PC police demand his professional execution? Maybe he just meant to say “I wish an American would have won it.”

A quote from my proud veteran father: “I spent the war fighting Japs, and now my son’s married to one…”
Y’know, this could turn into “D’bag of the Hour” and surpass the Stoopid 'Pubbies thread in no time…

Yeah, that’s especially fucking stupid since the race itself predates WWII. Hell, it predates WWI. What a twerp.

I guess he has no problem with South American and European winners, but it only concerns him when a Japanese driver wins?

Ah, yes. The “PC Police.” Definitely a real thing and not just right wing anti-PC bullshit.

You don’t even seem to be familiar with the story, since you didn’t know how he made the comment.

He did not slip up and mean “I wish an American would have won.” He meant what is sounds like he meant. He even helpfully spelled it out in his long apology (that didn’t actually apologize for the actual problem).

Dude went and saw his father’s grave, and came away with racist ideas against the Japanese. He then said them while representing the paper. And his apology is more “can’t you see why it’s okay to say these things” than a real apology. It also seems to only be an ass-saving measure, since he keeps mentioning his employer several times.

There’s nothing in there that shows he understands that the entire concept of hating Japanese people–even those from back then–is not okay. He never once apologizes to the actual people he hurt. It reads entirely like a CYA apology.

Dude holds a grudge against Japanese people for World War II, and it came out in his work. The company does not want to be associate with that, and fired him.

And, even if it were accidental, it in no way does that connect to supporting Trump. He’s not “accidentally” said any of the horrible things he’s said.

Don’t say bigoted things, and, if you didn’t know something was bigoted, then apologize and show you’ve learned. Don’t try to defend yourself. That will always make things worse.

Apparently this guy who has been working at a newspaper of all places hasn’t learned this.

From Those Wonderful Folks Who Gave You Pearl Harbor! https://www.amazon.com/Those-Wonderful-Folks-Pearl-Harbor/dp/0671205714. We tend to get over it. Dropdad and his brothers were in Yurp, and his last car was a VW.

Are you putting in an application to appear in this thread?

I don’t think it’s a good idea asking for applications here … for too many folks here being a douchebag is the only way they’ll get laid …

Panamanian asset-hiding, ambulance-chasing shyster Juan Carlos Mata. Any “work for Google” spam you see these days likely points to one of his websites.

Seems like a douchbag, but I object to the term “Ambulance-chasing shyster.” First, that’s a slur against hard working personal injury trial lawyers. Second, Mata isn’t a personal injury lawyer, so it’s an irrelevant slur.

My bad. He’s still a shyster, though.
