I think that this pic (found via the Bad Astronomy message board) gives a first glimpse of the Apollo 11 landing site from the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter - the first time it has been directly imaged.
You know, every now and then I see something like this and think, hey! Man went to the moon! That great big rock in the sky that, for centuries, was a god or a source of magic or just a hole in the firmament. A bunch of people put their heads together, strapped some brave souls to a rocket, and people walked around up there!
It kind of makes me proud, in a brotherhood of man kind of way. And very awed.
One word of advice: Try not to think of this in terms of the deniers. They live in their own world and will not be swayed by petty things like evidence and logic. Make this about the science and the achievements of the human species. It was an amazing accomplishment, even if some people can’t accept it.
Actually, the large version of the Apollo 17 picture seems to show lots of astronaut debris (or at least lots of those stark shadows from objects sticking up) all around the module.
Totally missed the other thread…I just saw this one pop up on the main forums screen so thought I’d get in my own shot before anyone else did. C’est la vie…
