The Early Morning MMP

I’ve learned those things with the local subways and buses. Actually, on some subway platforms, they actually show you on the platform where the doors will open when the train arrives. Doesn’t stop some dolts from standing exactly where they’re going to open (and where people will come out!) instead of slightly to the side, though.

I’ll be taking the bus and subway (we call it the metro) downtown shortly for a rehearsal. Mikado rehearsal!

**flytrap **- that joke is older than I am, which makes it pretty ancient. As for me - I had some coworkers who took Dale Carnegie courses, but that’s as close as I can get.

Regarding instruments, besides the accordion, I play guitar, a wee bit of piano, and even less on the recorder. I tried to play a trumpet once, but the sound that came out was not unlike a geriatric moose in distress, so I gave up quick. I messed with a violin once, but it didn’t impress me. I would like to learn banjo, but I doubt that’ll ever happen.

And I’ve sung in a bunch of choral groups - started as a Soprano I but now I’m more of an alto. I even tried to sing tenor in one group that was sorely lacking men, but I couldn’t learn to hear the tenor part.

Glad this week is over, but it was a productive one at work. I think I’ve just about beaten the monster drawing into submission - the weekend break will give me a chance to look at it with fresh eyes on Monday. Meanwhile, the truck is packed for my trek to Mom’s - I’ll be leaving in 90 minutes or so. I’d like to get there before dark, but I don’t think that’ll happen.

And, alas, the house is closed and the air is on. With luck, for the last time this year…

Howdy from da cave! I actually did leave irk early today but have been busy. I took care of some irk related stuff here at da cave. I am also in the midst of my continuin’ war with Mediacom over the entertainment center a tech damaged in August which has yet to be resolved. Will a local rep call me today? Will they yet again come to da cave and take pictures? Will I sue their <snerk> butts <snerk> off if this is not resolved by November 1st? It’s a real cliffhanger!

In other news, I did indeed make the best pear relish I have ever tasted. I had some on crackers with cream cheese a little bit ago. YUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUM!!! Can’t wait to taste it with some field peas ‘n snaps or on a burger or hotdawg. Whilst I am postin’ food news, tonight is pizza night. I shall order and OYKW shall pick up. Works for me!

StickyBuns I’ve never had mono but I’ve seen some really sick folks with mono. Hope you’re feelin’ better soonest.

flytrap the old Carnegie library in Albeeeeeeny is now a really jake art gallery. Great use of a cool old buildin’!

Whee! Thanks to a grocery store rewards program, I gassed up the big red truck for 1.9 cents per gallon. I should blow up the receipt and frame it - 20 gallons for 38 cents!

I’d have gotten more, but the program maxes out at 20 gallons.

Howdy Mumpers

Off to work with the hippies and make the loud, if you need me just look for the giant cloud of pot smoke coming from Downtown Houston. Their antics amuse me.

Cheers

Jim

So exhausted. Still dizzy. Getting better. Lost ability to form complete sentences.

gotti, pics or it didn’t happen.

Hey I can form sentences again!

gotti cool! That nasty habit of eatin’ finally paid off!

Pizza has been ingested. Life is good. A Mediacom person will be at da cave Tuesday at four-thirty in the p of m. I think they now understand in no uncertain terms this will be settled in my favor. I think BBBobbio would be proud of me.

Have fun with the hippies Jim!

I am very truly very much impressed.

In other gas news, there’s a station on the east side of town that has gas for $2.99 a gallon right now. When was the last time any of y’all saw that?

I recall my Father being really pissed off when it went up to .29 a gallon.
I recall Johnny Carson during the oil embargo in the 1970’s saying, “I’m sure when it reaches a dollar a gallon there will be plenty of gasoline.”

flytrap I bemoaned gas at fifty cents a gallon in the 70’s because it cut into the beer money. The horror!

ETA: First on Six!

in the mid-70s, my mom was convinced “they” would never let it go over $1/gallon

Turns out “THEY” were wrong!

Oh I adore Gilbert and Sullivan. About three years ago Washburn University here in Topeka did a full on production of the Mikado. Three performances, all well attended.

You want to know what song got the biggest reaction from the audience, when I attended? * “I’ve Got a Little List”* had folks clap and cheer.

As has become traditional the words were updated, so Koko was complaining about people who text while driving, and so on. But what really got people out of their seats was this line:

“And those that walk Topeka streets with signs that hate insist/ I’ve got them on my list/ They never will be missed”

As you may have heard, Topeka is home to the rock that the Westboro Baptist Church hides under. I drive by their compound nearly every day, on the way to the dog park.

EXCELLENT!!! The best one ever!

Greetings from my mom’s house. I just got in bed, so you’re getting a nekkid-but-covered post from me. I’s tahred and I need to sleep, so nighty-night!!!

pics?

Canes lost, but the tailgate rocked.

Here you call 911 even if it’s not an emergency, I don’t know why but you do.

Home from watching piddle and in a pissed off mood. Somebody parked in front of the house, dead center taking up both parking spaces. I’m parked blocking the driveway and not over far enough because I had to squeeze between them and the van next door. NFW I’m parking down the road, I’m sure the rude ass heard me cussing them though. I know it’s a public street but you don’t have to take up two damn places - rude ass SOB.
Then I get on facebook and once again, even though I keep blocking it - I get another damn request to play texas hold em poker. How many times do you have to block shit to keep it from coming up over and over and over???!!!
I am grumpy tonight!

It’s Saturday, it’s dark, it’s quiet and dog-free here. Why, then, am I up at this ridiculous hour? Yeah, I know, circadian rhythm and all that crap - I always get up at 5, so I was awake at 5… grrrrrrr

Once it gets light out, the digging will begin. I came in the truck, since loading the car is a pain and it makes the car dirty. Who cares if the truck gets dirty, right? I’m hoping to leave a bit after lunch - we shall see.

Meanwhile, Happy Saturday. Dammit.

You should probably tighten the bolts. Don’t want your tailgate to come off at highway speeds, yanno.

I remember watching an episode of MST3Kback in the late 90’s where there was a car chase past a gas station. The price listed on the sign was something like $2.89. One of the 'bots said, “Look at those gas prices! Where are they, Port au Prince?”

swampy! The Air Force Academy needs you! Oh…wait…they fixed the problem. But wait? What’s that at the end of the article? They got their tp but intercollegiate sports have been cancelled due to the shutdown? Those Tea Party bastards!
