Just posting to keep updated on what junk everybody is getting.
Carry on…
I’ve got my stuff packed and will be shipped sometime this week. Now, remember, it’s going from Sweden to the US, so it might take a few days…
I went to the post orifice this morning… and my box is winging its way east e’en as I type (well, actually it’s probably sitting in the back of the post office and will wing tomorrow, but that kinda ruins the story, you know? ).
It did cause some discussion amongst the post office clerks, however… the postage was about $15 (19000 won), and when the lady asked me how much the contents were worth, I answered, “Ama… chon won… bo-hom-i pilyo opsoyo.” (“Maybe… 75 cents… It doesn’t need to be ensured.”) She then asked me, in Korean, “Why are you spending 19000 won to send some stuff that is worth 1000 won to the US??” I pondered how to say ‘worthless crap’ and ‘to bedevil some poor sucker on the other side of the world’ for a few moments, then chickened out: “No habla! No habla!”
She shrugged and gave up… but as I left I did hear another woman ask, “Why is he spending so much for something worthless?” The clerk answered, (more or less) “He’s crazy! He comes in here all the time to mail weird things… friggin’ foreigners!” This is the same clerk I dealt with during the last WE swap, and the last time she got a good look at the stuff I was sending…
Anyways, you (I’m not gonna say who is the recipient of my generousity, I want it to be a surprise) should get your box in a week or maybe two, depending… ENJOY!
Oh, and thank you ts for organizing! You rule!
If we ever meet IRL I WILL buy you a drink! (But no rum for you! Soju! I must not be the only one subjected to this stuff! )
OOOOOOOO! AAAAHHH! Got my WE today! (& mailed mine out - have fun Fireman!)
The Narnia book is the best part! Now to find the others… I think I have TLTW&TW already.
The nail transfer kit is … um… interesting. (Note to self - save for next white elephant ;^) )
I can use the mini-screwdriver. (heh - several puns come to mind already!)
Ideas for chocolate usage (Hershey’s cookbook)are ALWAYS welcome!
Quote from the back of the package of The Bug’s Life playing cards “Suitable for ALL card games”. Yeah - but I’d feel a bit weird using these for strip poker.
The pen’s already in my purse, the cat earring will go … somewhere and the Made In China medieval knight figurine sits nicely on the 'puter.
Will find a frame for the crossstitch (are there really 3 S’s in that word?) the Personal ID kit (alpha stickers) kinda got all over everything else (should send this to Qadgop - wait - the Q is MISSING?) and I can pretend to be a little tiny Ross County Ohio sheriff!
Whew! I hope my white elephant was as good!
I’m just hoping the package I sent made it through customs…
I just delivered my box of cra…stuff[sup]®[/sup][sub]I can’t believe no one thought of registering this one before. Please feel free to use the term as you wish, but remember to send the $25 royalty fee to me at…[/sub]
Should be there midweek, you lucky “person-in-need-of-an-elephant-or-three”[sup]®[/sup] you!
I sent mine today as well! To sunny Florida – and to a new poster who doesn’t post too often. (Hint hint.) Hope she like the schtuff.
I mailed my package to Utah this afternoon. At parcel post rates they said it should get there in 5 to 6 days.
My box is ready and I’m on my way to the post office to mail it to <hint>Florida.</hint*> It did have one extra item, but a co-worker snagged it out of the box.
[sub]*I didn’t say it was a big hint.[/sub]
I sent a big box of stuff on Saturday - and then found out I left out one of the pieces. So when my selected East Coast Secret Elephant Recipient gets the stuff, let me know - I’ll send the other part. I just don’t want it to get there first and spoil things!
Astroboy, I went through a similar routine with my local shipping place. I didn’t have a big enough box, so I trotted over to the strip mall. The clerk wrapped all the individual parts, stopping every few minutes to eye me suspiciously. Then…
“How much insurance?”
“None.”
“Well, what is it worth?”
“Nothing.”
“Why are you sending it, then?”
(shrugging helplessly) “It’s a tradition.”
“Who are you sending it to? Family?”
“No. Some guy I never met.”
And on, and on, and on. She did do her best to make sure nothing broke, though. Lots and lots and lots of styrofoam peanuts (aka Ghost Poo or Angel Turds).
I just got back from sending my wonderful stuff [sub]crap[/sub] to Canada, and I am so stupid, I picked send by surface rather than airmail, airmail was only $3 more! I woulda sprung for airmail but I was distracted and picked surface. So to my poor, waiting, Canadian doper friend [sub]victim[/sub], I am truly sorry for the wait. It should be there in a few weeks, but it could be a month or more. I say a month because I have shipped stuff to Canada before and it’s not too speedy.
One pale pachy packed, to be mailed today. [sub]damn, I forgot that can of spam! [/sub]
My package is sitting in the truck now waiting for an after-work trip to the post office. Provided the gods of surprise overtime don’t pay me a visit, someone in the upper midwest should be getting a box soon.
I’m guessing that my Recipient should be receiving their package today…at least that’s what the post office said!
Hmmm, one large box of assorted crud. Plus a treat.
Hurry up and get it! I want to hear about your dismay and consternation!
I have to wait until Thursday or Friday to mail out my heap o’ treasures due to lack of fundage. (Turbo Dog’s as well.) Apologies to victims, you’ll have a to wait a few more days.
I’m sending mine today or tomorrow. It’s hard to work up the proper evil-eyebrow-wiggling glee in light of today’s horrific terrorist attacks, but I’m sending it anyway.
Darn it, I see a used emery board I could have included. Too late, the box is taped up.
I just want to apologize to whomever sent me my White Elephant. I haven’t opened it yet.
I got home from work yesterday, weary and drained from watching yesterday’s events unfold. My WE had arrived, but I just can’t bring myself to open it yet. I’m not trying to be melodramatic, but I just know that this tragedy has taken the color out of everything for me right now. If I opened it today, I wouldn’t possibly enjoy anything I’ll find in the box as much as I had hoped to, or as much as the sender had hoped.
So I’m waiting for a couple of more days, when this nightmare has receded a bit. I just wanted to say thanks for sending the cra…stuff[sup]TM[/sup], and I’ll be enjoying it soon…
Paul
K, stuff’s sent and I’ll sit here and wait for awed responses to the oh-so nifty stuff I sent.
Caveat: I didn’t have any ghost turds or newspaper to pack it in (I did have newspaper, but lately, I’ve been saving them for obvious reasons), so it’s packed in old sheets. They’re clean! Honest. Haven’t been used for many a moon, just tucked in the back of the (clean!) linen closet.
I will try to put my box together this weekend.
