The End of the Road...An Island MMP

Hooray! I’ve got Diet Pepsi!!! (Not exactly what I wanted, but it was caffeine free so I went for it.)

I just spent my entire lunch hour looking for a chunky coral necklace to wear this weekend - no dice. Last summer, the stores were selling nothing but chunky coral accessories, but this year there isn’t a single piece in sight. Don’t they realise that I need the necklace THIS year? Hmph.

So, now I need to figure out how to get to the bead store tomorrow AND scoot uptown for an afternoon with the in-laws AND put in 5 hours OT at work.

Plus I’ll need to figure out when exactly I’ll have time to make the damned necklace before Sunday evening - which is when I was planning on wearing it.

AAAAAAAARGH.

Yeah, that’s what I told him too.

Evening all. Happy 4th of July to the Murkins!

Long, tiring day looking after the tearaway - when did she get so fast, and so strong? And where did she pick up this habit of going all limp when she doesn’t want to be picked up?

Sigh … I need to upload some more pics to show you how much hair she has now - she isn’t a baby anymore - she’s a little girl!

Forgot to mention… When TVMan and I went to get beer for him and pop for me he was genuinely surprised that he wasn’t carded. HE’S 42. Um, yeah, so I told him nicely, but honestly that when he doesn’t shave that there’s alot of white in his beard. He said, ‘maybe I don’t look as young as I think I look.’ :dubious: I mean, honestly, I think he’s quite handsome, but it isn’t necessary to be young forever.

It’s raining, so it’s been pretty quiet, although the pyro neighbors in back were setting off some very loud firecrackers when I ventured out for a few seconds. It’s not nearly as bad as your neighborhood sounds, though, Smarty.

Oh, yes, we haven’t seen pictures of HRH in quite a while. I’m sure she’s changed a lot.

I’ve pulled up another strip of carpet and had to go downstairs to find out why the end of a very sharp screw was sticking up through the floor. It was holding a strip of metal to the basement ceiling (which, is, coincidentally, the floor; there’s no subfloor and the basement isn’t finished, so what you see when you wander into the basement is hardwood with Bruce stickers here and there. Hmmm…Bruce Flooring has been around since 1884, so it’s not surprising to find it in a 1929 house.

Back to pulling up carpet.

GT

A reminder to myself that today is the day to drive with the windows up in case any of the neighborhood idiots decide to blast bottle rockets at passing cars…

All the carpet is up, neatly rolled and duct taped. All the staples from the padding are up (it’s possible I missed some, but I’ve gotten pretty good at finding them, so it shouldn’t be more than one or two). I’m going to start in on the tack strip - yuck - and then mop with Murphy’s oil soap.

Fascinating, huh?

Yes! So’s what I just did- I pureed sweet potatoes. Isn’t that interesting? I decided the sieve was less of a pain to clean than the food processor. I may have been wrong.

And I think my microwave may have just died. The lights have gone off, and unplugging and replugging don’t do anything. Hmm. Mouth-to-mouth? Cardiac stimulus? How do you revive a microwave?

Ooooh, the experimental next solids?

I, unfortunately, have only ever revived microwaves via replacement. Of course, I’m only on my second one ever.

GT

I think the food processor is easier to clean. The sieve you have to make sure nothing is stuck in the little holes and sometimes you can scrub and run water etc and it just doesn’t seem to move it sometimes.

When you really need is one of those magic bullet things. Just big enough to make small amounts of pureed food. My friend has one, and we used it for that purpose the other week when we were over for dinner and she was also babysitting.

Velociraptor loved sweet potatoes as a baby, now he says he doesn’t like them but I make him try a bite anyway every time I make them. (He doesn’t have to finish everything, as long as he tries a bite… and he goes through phases of hating and loving foods so one week he’ll say he hates beans and the next he’ll eat them up like they were the last ones he’d ever get…).

re: the microwave Did you check your breaker? I’ve had it happen when only our microwave goes out and its for that reason… though you’d think more would go out than just the microwave.

We’ve only got two circuits for the whole apartment, and nothing else has stopped working. I’m going to plug and unplug a few more times, stare at it, and maybe invite Attacks Husband over to electrocute himself on it in the name of trying to fix.

Whew - back, exhausted, on the kids’ computer, since mine dies too often for me to want to mess with it. I may post a GQ about the BSOD. Or just give up and send it to MamaTigs’ guy.

Lots of stuff happened over the last coupla days. Like writing a check for almost $1300 for daughter’s car repair. And finally finishing the program I was trying to run at work. And getting part of my studio wall installed. And SIL got a part-time job at Blockbuster, plus he’s got a good feeling about the other interview - he’s supposed to hear next week.

**FCD **is still in contention for the job he really really *really *wants - it’s between him and one other guy. At least he hasn’t been disqualified. He’s hoping they’re trying to decide if they can hire both candidates…

SIL drove to Annapolis to pick up daughter and 2 other counselors. All 4 of them are going to DC tomorrow to do the tourist thing. One of the girls coming is the same one who visited last week - a lovely young thing from York. I think the other may be one of the Swedish girls, but I’m not certain. I’ll find out in about an hour.

While they’re all in DC, **FCD **and I will finish putting up the wall boards in the laundry room. It should go quickly with just the 2 of us. I’m hoping we can also finish pulling the electrical wire so we can start putting up the sheetrock on the ceiling.

But for tonight, I’m exhausted. Gonna run the vacuum, then crash in front of the TV. After I post a BSOD question in GQ.

I read the whole thread, but all I can remember is - Congrats, Dotty! Jealous of **Puggy **going to Italy… Hope all the sickies feel better and that Nat gives poor **LiLi **a break! Hugs for everybody!!

Well, that took all day, but I’m glad it’s done. Daughter got a black MacBook, and they fixed my laptop keyboard, which was filthy, despite washing my hands etc. They said to leave it and it’d be done in 24-48 hours, so I <gulped> and said ok, going thru virtual withdrawal from the Dope right in the Apple store.

We drove home (about 30 minutes) and #2 son met us in the driveway–Apple had called and my puter was ready! So, we ate lunch and went back for mine. The keys feel weird–I liked the old ones better (these feel more plastic-y), but it’s pristine, white and came with a clear plastic cover over the part where you rest your hands (not the actual keys). It may be the computer equivalent of having clear plastic slipcovers, but I’m leaving the plastic on there–it looks so nice and white!

We’re grilling out-steaks!! I face YARD work tomorrow, bigtime and then #1 son comes home on Sunday. yay!

Be sure and tell your daughter’s friends Semper Fi from me, Taters – as a mom to an honorably discharged veteran and wife of another, I hope the Marines turns out to be everything they want it to be!

We’ve had a very quiet day. The weather is getting uglier and uglier, so we’ve not even tried to do anything outdoors. Definitely not fireworks weather – I’m even gladder we didn’t go down to the Mall; it’s probably going to get rained out. And maybe it will keep the neighbors from going too crazy. It looks like the rain will hit just about dark…which is perfect, who wants to stand out in the rain watching their fireworks fizzle?

Of course, that just means they’ll fire them off later. Sigh.

Anyway, back to doing what I’ve done today, which is not very much – I hope everyone’s having a good day!

Remember how I’ve told you all that TVMan is legally blind? Ok, good.

Now let me tell you that he’s in the backyard setting off HOMEMADE FIREWORKS.

I literally could not watch anymore. I fear for his safety, but I just can’t do it. There’s about 10 people out there and a fire extinguisher too so I’m just going to have to hope that it’s enough. Besides, if I hear something happen, I’m about 5 seconds away from where he is. Envy me this fun evening. :frowning:

I survived work today, We had 50 Taiwanese exchange students come and shop today. Thye behave better than the regular clients, Heck the pocket pooches behave better than the regulars. Much fireworks, Nelly is mildly unhappy. I’m having fish and rice for dinner.

Good luck to FCD and dotty on the jobs! FCM, I see BSOD every day.

Great to hear about the new friends, Haze

Good luck to your daughter’s friends, Taters. Some of the best employees and bosses I’ve had were in the Corps. My cousin is in, too.

The potatoes are boiled and cooling down; as are the eggs for the 'tater salad.

I dropped my son off at his little non( )girlfriend’s house for some shindig her family is putting on. When I go to pick him they’re either going to have give me the gate code, or he’s going to have to walk to the gate. The only reason we got into their community is because we followed another car in.

I hate gated communities.

I guess I should start the 'tater salad.

Smooches to all.

It’s lonely here in the MMP…

I’m still here!

Hooray!

Forgot to mention that the chicken fingers turned out ok. The sauce seemed to have soaked in during the several hours of marinating. The only downside is that the party started at 3:30, but nobody really ate until 5:30, so they were pretty soggy by then. TVMan really liked them and ate a huge pile, though, so I guess that’s all that really matters.
