doggio, I was talking to TVMan about you yesterday. We were in a dollar store looking for cheap squirt guns (in order to turn it into a flamethrower  ) and he saw a security camera and wondered why it was necessary. So I told him about all the drama that you go through at work on a regular basis.
Potato salad has been made and steaks are on the grill.
Earlier today I also took my daughter to the store to pick up the fixings for apple pie. She was thinking about making a Dutch cream apple pie, but decided on the just a regular ol’ apple pie. The Dutch cream pie is supposed to be served warm and she wasn’t sure she could time it so the pie could be served warm when her friends arrive.
Anyway, I’m sure I’ll helping her out a little bit. I recommended that she just get premade crusts because homemade crusts are difficult for a novice. In fact, it’s been so long since I’ve baked a pie from scratch, I’m not sure I could get the crust right either. We all know the secret of a good pie is in a light, flaky crust.
The sun has valiantly tried to make an appearance today and actually succeeded a couple of times, but for the most part it’s been kind of overcast here today.
Fireworks have been going off all day today. I’m sure the craziness will start soon. Fortunately, fireworks don’t seem to bother my dog in the least. In fact, he’ll try to chase the little spinner things down if we let him out. Thunder doesn’t faze him in the least either. My husband wonders if he’s a little hard of hearing, but I don’t think so because he can hear noises that we don’t hear and is up and barking when he does hear them.
I guess I should nudge the hubby to check the steaks now.
anyone not already parked in front of Turner Classic Movies for The Music Man, better go there now because 1776 starts in just a few minutes! Go! The MMP will be here when you get back. I promise.
Later, gang.
The Battle of SouthEast Portland is in full swing, and poor little Callie-dog is hardly able to eat her dinner for all the noise. We had to put her in the bathroom with the door closed so she can get her food choked down.
Man, I hate this holiday!
Still haven’t had dinner, we have lovely lamb gobbets marinating in cheap red wine with lethal amounts of garlic, fresh rosemary, fresh mint and honey mustard. Gonna fire up the grill soon and char some animal flesh, yeehaw! A friend gave me a dozen fresh brown eggs from his chickens and Himself has made devilled eggs out of them–man, I do so love some spicy devilled aigs! Gotta do some sort of tater or sallit I suppose, although I’m really just in the mood for a chunk of hot charred baby sheep… Gotta be civilized, although I don’t really know why. Doesn’t Independence Day cover independence from stupid conventions?
I took a bunch of the rendered juice from the strawberries I’ve been munching on all week, added some vodka and a splash of tequila and have that melding in the fridge. Mmm, strawberry booze, yummers. If the noise don’t quiet down at a reasonable hour I’m gonna drink it all up! I put it in a Sobe bottle and damned if it doesn’t look like something you’d buy at the Kwik-E-Mart!
Himself also replaced the speakers in my car–I bought some cute little Clarion 3" jobbies that fit perfectly up in the front and I had a spare pair of 5" round ones that went in back to replace the 6x9"s with the blown diaphragms. Sounds quite nice in there now, so I also burned a whole crapload of music to listen to. Since we just installed a prototype stripped down version of our generator kit in my car to see how it goes over the long run I have a really great excuse to take a road trip. Maybe I’ll get up early tomorrow morning and go put some miles on–in the spirit of investigation and R&D, don’tcha know!
Hope everybody still has all their fingers! I guess TVMan is okay since Pie is still posting…
The kids around here aim them at each other. Teenagers, mostly.
Yawn. Okay, kidlet, 5:15 is better than 4, but Mommy’s still tired, especially since you have a cold.
Nat seems cheerful now, though. In spite of clogged nose and coughing. I don’t want him to be unhappy, but the sleeping-more-because-of-sickness part would be nice. Mr. Lissar has the same cold, but sounds much worse.
Boy howdy, did we have a storm yesterday - right about the time the kids got here. As the deluge fell, I tried to remember if I’d closed the driver’s side window on the van - I fear I didn’t, and the way it was parked, I couldn’t tell. Guess I’ll find out later today - we really need to take our trash and recycling. At least the rain seemed to minimize the boom-booms around here, although with all the windows closed, any sounds we did hear were faint.
Guess it’s a good thing I have to use the kids’ computer - one of the guests is crashed on the couch in the family room, which is where my computer is. I’m in the living room, wearing a green robe and drinking some Diet Coke - just so you can form an accurate mental image. I woke up at 5 and despite my best efforts, I couldn’t fall back to sleep. That damned song Ebony and Ivory is stuck in my head, thanks to the constantly running commercial for Psych that kept running during the NCIS marathon. See, that’s what happens when I don’t have my 'puter - I watch TV. grrrrrr
Once the young 'uns leave, **FCD **and I are going to disassemble the laundry room and put up the painted OSB panels Then I’ll touch up the paint and we’ll put the washer and dryer back. I would hope we’ll be done by noon, but it’s hard to tell. I also hope they don’t get rained on too badly, but a look at weather radar shows a lot of nasties heading toward DC. Oh well, they’re young - they can deal.
Another of SIL’s endearing  quirks: everything is “… of doom.” For example, yesterday, **FCD **got a big splinter in his hand, which SIL referred to as “splinter of doom.” When he mows the yard, he uses the “lawnmower of doom.” I’m waiting for him to refer to supper as, for example, “pork chops of doom.”
So, happy Saturday, all. Send chocolate. And a foot rub. And swampy, if you truly loved me and respected me as a person, you’d give me your hot tub - goodness that would have felt good last night…
It’s Caturday and I’m busy, busy, busy. Mostly this is because I’ve got a load of things to do before we leave for Budapest! Woo and hoo! Four days in the sun, with good friends and great company…and some sight-seeing too.
So far I’ve washed dishes, cleaned the floors, done the ironing, dyed my hair, packed up the Vax that a friend is borrowing (collecting this morning, and packed up a load of food, dry food, treats, toys and other essentials for the fuzzbutts who are off to stay with one of our friends for a week while we’re off. We will be home on Thursday but she’s keeping the cats until Sunday because we’re going to a wedding reception next Saturday night and staying over at the hotel, which is fairly close to where she lives. It will save me another trip up and down the M6, and she’ll get more time to fuss the fuzzbutts.
Time to go, got lots to do! See you all next week…
Yes, TVMan remains unharmed. Actually, he was out there with the neighbors, one who had been drinking (no lie) since 10 in the morning. So, we had the drunkards with explosives here too,** Roo**. I only hope that things remain calm as I have to leave in about 20 minutes to go to work.
Heh. Just remembered a dream that I was having about Swatch wall clocks (about 7 ft tall swatch watches that you hang on your wall). I have one and I was looking at some online last night because I was trying to determine if any of my Swatches were worth enough to sell on eBay. Although, it sort of backfired because I think I found one that I just can’t live without! (It’s only $10.) So I was dreaming that I talked someone into giving me the two clocks that she had taken off of her wall at work because she was retiring. She agreed, but showed me that she was really a robot and might be needing them again someday when her body was refurbished.
Here’s an example of one that I am lusting after, all though for the price of shipping, I’m definitely not going to buy it. I have it in actual ‘watch’ size and it’s actually one of the more popular ones still floating around, it’s called ‘Sir Swatch.’
We had a thunderstorm yesterday afternoon. Which cooled things down considerably, and it was quite pleasant sitting out on the front porch watching the neighborhood fireworks.
Mr Rebo finished installing the door! It seals and locks and everything! We got a cool new deadbolt that you enter a code for. He’s Da Man! So today is drywall, and he said while he’s got the mud out he will patch a few other places in the area that need it. Then we’ll paint the entry and hall.
Gotta go start breakfast soon. Yay for it being only Saturday!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Hope everybody that celebrated had a good holiday yesterday. We did. Got home around eight last night and not long thereafter crashed. We had a nice loooooong sleep. We’ve also been to breakfast at IHOP this mornin’ and shortly will probably go hang at the pool. Yeah, we’re havin’ a tough life right now.
MOOOOOOM if you lived closer your lust to own my hot tub might happen. Really. I have been considerin’ gettin’ rid of it. I still like it and all but I’d like to have a little more room on my back porch. Alas, unwiring and movin’ the dang thing would be a monumental chore.
Was that a fuzzy green robe, FCM? And exactly what shade of green should we be imagining?
::waves at doggio::
I’m sitting in the living room in a work shirt and jeans with a mug of tea. And about to put a tray of rolls in the oven. <Pause for the 60 seconds it takes to accomplish this task.> And trying to wake up. (Also in aid of accurate mental image.)
Need to go to Home Depot to get some different safety goggles and some patching stuff.
Also need to do laundry today. Also looks like it might not be miserably rainy today, so I might get some work done in the garden.
There’s some strange chick sleeping on the couch in the living room.
I need to give Complicated Roommate a refresher course in the subjunctive in English. “Probably might have a friend over” /= “will have a friend over.”
In other news, Petercat is becoming an Expensive Kitty. I took him to the vet on Tuesday and his bloodwork came back with Bad Liver Numbers. They gave me some antibiotics for his mouth (he really needs his teeth cleaned–gums are starting to get infected) and painkillers for his arthritis and told me to come back this morning. The pain medicine is definitely working–he hopped up on the kitchen counter yesterday, ripped open a plastic bag and ate his Pill Pockets. Today his liver numbers were better, but they’re continuing him on the medication for a little while to get them down further so they won’t feel so nervous about cleaning his teeth.
This gives me time to go to the Financial Aid office first thing Monday morning with a bubbly attitude and anime eyes so I can get my money and pay for this. The way I see it, being polite doesn’t work up there, being hostile and abusive doesn’t work, so I might as well be incredibly creepy and way too chipper and see where that goes.
It’s Saturday. So why am I at work? Oh right… my manager came and made puppy dog eyes at me.
I’d really have preferred to sleep in this morning, since yesterday I ended up staying late at work to get a head start on the stuff to do today and then met up with friends for dinner and a concert (Ladytron, in case anyone is curious - absolutely delicious electroclash/industrial/electronic stuff).
On the bright side, I don’t have to dash off to the bead store as previously thought, since there were several street vendors set up on the way out the show and one of them had an absolutely perfect necklace/earrings/bracelet set that was exactly what I was looking for. Huzzah.
Hope Nat and Mr Lissar get over their colds soon, LiLi. Seems like there’s a nasty bug going around - both The Boy and one of our friends were getting scratchy throats and runny noses last night.
Nice deadbolt, Rebo! Trust a man to find a way to incorporate gadgetry even into a simple lock.
Oh, and this is how some of our locals like to handle fireworks. Sigh. (The Boy took that photo on Victoria Day weekend last year… the park near our apartment felt like a close approximation of a war zone).
I’m up and caffienating, but still pretty dang tired. We stayed up way too late last night. The various neighbors were letting off fireworks until very late last night too. I was glad when they finally stopped.
Our son had a nice time at the non-girlfriend’s house. The bonus was that they drove him home. I felt that was very nice of them. We called him at around 11:30 last night to see when we should pick him up and he said that they were driving him home. I wasn’t expecting that, but I appreciated it.
Our grilled ribeye steaks were awesome and we still have leftover tater salad. This will make my son happy as he loves my tater salad.
Today the daugher will get her pie baked and we will clean, clean, clean. The house seriously needs it.
I don’t think there are any other plans. At least, I hope there aren’t any other plans.
