The End of the Road...An Island MMP

Howdy, all. Sounds like everybody survived the 4th. The fireworks were definitely kept down last night because of wet weather around here, and it looks like the weather will continue all weekend. Unfortunately, that just means that we’ll have to hear them at odd times for much longer after the holiday weekend. You just can’t win sometimes.

Sorry Nat has a cold, LiLi. In case nobody’s told you, babies keep colds a lot longer than Big People, so don’t be surprised if he’s got it for up to 2 weeks. Yes, I know, just what you didn’t want to hear. But I’m glad he’s being cheerful in spite of it. And I hope you can find something to help fill his tummy and make him sleep longer, that doesn’t just upset him further.

Not much else to report here. Everybody have a nice, quiet day, okay?

'Ullo, all. The 4th was its usual ups and downs and stupid people doing stupid things (like jumping off car roofs for fun), but the fireworks made up for it all. They had one firework I’ve never seen before: it started out quite ordinary (so ordinary that I cannot recall what color it was), but then that faded and phase 2 started–a molten wall of sparks, sheeting down just like a waterfall. Not the ones that have lots of little golden sparks after the blue or red or whatever, this was a huge mass of sparks tightly packed together. As it fell, it became a woman’s hair, a bolt of cloth and finally a waterfall. I’ve never seen anything like it before. The sparks did not fly off into different directions, they all fell at the same rate, adding to the cascade effect. It was striking (as you can tell, since I’m still blathering on about it).

Anyway, we came home and listened to the Dumb and Dumber (the two neighbors to the east of us–2 different households) popping off illegal fireworks and generally behaving in moronic ways. The kids made s’mores and TH went to sleep and so did I. [sub]and then this morning we had a horribly difficult talk with again nothing resolved because he can’t move out if he’s going to lose his job which he doesn’t know yet, so for the first time EVER, I said I would. And he said no. Not that he’s in charge of me, obviously, but it may just come to my moving out. I am trying to wrap my head around it but mostly it makes me want to throw up.[/sub]
I have to go buy more propane for my “flamethrower” for the weeds. It’s a handy little item, but I have a LARGE yard. Maybe I’ll dig out pics and post scan and post them soon. I also washed the woodwork on the front porch with bleach and soap to remove the mildew/moss like stuff so that TH can sand it and repaint. And I think I want to make a cake to celebrate #1 son’s homecoming tomorrow.

Dotty–from Oz, what kind of jet lag will he have coming here? I remember when I went to Hawaii, I came home and slept for 17 straight hours, didn’t let the dog out and he peed all over the foyer floor and I stepped in it. But that’s beside the point. Anyhoo, will he be hyper or exhausted or both? I think his flight gets in around 3 pm CDT. (I get easily confused re time zones and stuff like that.)

Nice day here. Hope it’s nice where you are (wherever and whoever you are!)

ETA:** LiLi**–sleeping because they’re sick? It is to laugh. Mine never slept more (especially as babies) when they were sick–they slept less. Except for one day (before #2 son) when they both had fevers of 102+. Quietest and nicest day as a SAHM I ever had…

Evening all. I read everything and retained nothing. A full day of toddler care (starting at 5:30am, thanks to me mis-reading my alarm clock - durn useless eyes) has left me drained, to say the least! HRH had her MMR and Pneumococcal vaccines today, so she was a bit grumpy! Fortunately, she was really tired and went to sleep without a peep!

I’m gonna have a look around the Dope and then crash on the sofa for a while!

ETA: rigs, he will be totally shagged for about 3 days! Just force him to wake up by 10am and not go to bed before 8pm, and get plenty of natural light and sunshine during the day!

the official, sponsored, safe fireworks show ended around 10:15. However the amateurs on the next block were setting things off as late (early) as 4am. And I think they knew they were disturbing folks, because they’d leave half hour intervals between ignitions - long enough for sleepy people to doze bacvk off and be rudely awakened.

Yes!! We had those too. I thought they were new also. They were the most beautiful fireworks! I tried to get a photo, and even though it was a good shot it could not capture how beautiful those were.

It was like being under a willow tree or firework waterfall.

Gorgeous!

Ah. I see I am not the only one to sense the sadistic streak in those who like to cavort amongst fire and gunpowder. I used to just say to myself that my one neighbor was in Vietnam, so that explained his weekly bottlerocket habit. But then I realized my other neighbor (who I enjoy) to the west, was also in Vietnam and he doesn’t do bottlerockets etc. So, I’m left with arrested development and meanness. Works for me.

Dottster-Ta. Plus, he is my sleeper kid (best sleeper as a baby etc), so 3 days it is. I just hope he’s lucid enough to get through the airport!

would whoever tried to add me as a facebook friend please PM me (here) so I know who it is.
Thank you

I’m still trying to mellow out…

Did you ever do something dumb like I just did where you’re talking to someone and say something that you think is obviously clever or funny such as I think it’s just dreadful when people wear sandals with socks and then you look down at there feet and that’s what they’re wearing. Well, I just did something like that with my client and I feel like a BIG IDIOT. I guess I’ll just have to let it go, though. An apology was not appropriate and I certainly can’t undo it. I guess the good news is that he just got $220 worth of free food, so I hope that counts for something. Even if I’m an idiot, I can still cook.

Oh well… On with my day, then.

CutiePie sandals with socks is a fashion fox paw on a par with a brown belt with black slacks, so he deserved it. I mean it’s not like you threw him out of your shop for wearin’ socks with sandals. Tho you would have been entirely justified.

We’s in from the pool. I hear thunderatin’ off in the distance. I hope that means a big thunderboomer later on. Ima go make a cabbage casserole for brunch tomorrow. Tomorrow is first Sunday and that means brunch at church. I’m actually takin’ this casserole cause a couple of people actually hinted around for it. It taks so little to flatter me.

Ok, off to cook.

I am certain I have done that Pie and apparently it was so embarrassing that I can’t remember what it was. I seem to have lived, despite that.

It’s fairly nice out and not terribly hot, so I’m going outside - right after I go out to get lawn bags.

I’ve been to Home Depot to get more paint. Got stuff for the trim and indoor furniture. Tomorrow, I’m getting exterior paint and possibly more furniture paint.

No, you should not move, rigs. If he thinks he’s going to lose his job, then he should be looking for the next job. Unless, of course, he’s planning to be the kids’ primary caregiver. Just my 2 cents, of course.

Off to do more stuff…

GT

OK, get ready to make notes so you can construct the proper mental images.

The robe I was wearing this morning was light green with darker green flowers all over it, made from a heavy t-shirt fabric, zip up the front, 2 patch pockets, slightly below knee length. My fuzzy robe is light blue with a medium blue abstract pattern covering it, mid-calf length, zipped up the front. I had a lilac robe of the similar t-shirt fabric, but my daughter didn’t have a robe, so I let her use that one. 'Cause I’m nice, dammit.

The kids are still in DC - from the looks of weather radar, they should be dry, although it’s overcast here, and quite cool for July - right around 80. **FCD **and I are taking a break. We’ve put up the walls inside the laundry room and he hung the light for me. I need to go down and paint in about an hour - waiting for the caulk to dry first. I just finished running the dishwasher and I made up a big batch of cucumber-onion salad. We’ll have that, sweet corn on the cob, fresh 'maters, something with N.O.T. - maybe roasted - and some pork. They’re supposed to call when they’re leaving the Branch Avenue metro station so I’ll know how to time dinner.

I think **FCD **is done for today - his back is hurting him. I’m tired, but I need to get a coat of paint done so we can put the washer and dryer back in place. The girls have to be back at camp before 10, so they’ll leave here around 8. We’ve got to take trash and recycling tomorrow and I expect we’ll try to get all the electrical work done. Everything takes so much longer than I expect - I was sure we’d have the laundry room done in a couple of hours. It was more like 5 hours. No wonder I’m tired!!

Well, off the paint.

Kisses!!!

Now I’ve done it. We did a citizen’s ride-along form for VunderKind, and he took a call with me last night. Now HE wants to be an EMT… We’re doing a shift tonight.

If the night is quiet, I think we’ll try to get to VA Beach tomorrow for the promised cleavage inspections, since the Outer Banks trip fell through.

TTFN…

Oi. I tried to switch out the propane tanks for my weed wand and now it’s all funky. Instead of a nice almost invisible flame, I’ve got huge orange fire sheeting up the wand. I called in TH and he took off the propane tank and re-did it and it still is doing it. So, we emailed the company, since the instructions say nothing about this. (no, the valve wasn’t all the way open, either).

I am concerned about that (because I hate buying stuff that lasts for 2 days), but also my chest is now tight and I don’t feel all that well. It’s been about 20 minutes and I’m better, but not 100%. I think I inhaled some of the propane.
And I’ve decided it’s too hot to weed, so I’m Doping instead. #1 son doesn’t get in until about 8pm tomorrow, not 3. Yikes.

Happy Saturday all! So glad to hear that TVMan is okay, CutiePie, especially after I read that some guy in Ohio had blown a leg off with an illegal firework! On a happier note, Soapy’s kids are quite cute (as shown in CutiePie’s appreciation thread).

We had a big downpour last night, but the Capital Fourth fireworks went on as planned – we watched em on PBS! Seriously, DC usually does a fantastic job with the 4th of July fireworks and if you can’t be there in person, the Capital Fourth concert on PBS, direct from the west front of the capitol building, is really the next best thing. Especially if you don’t like huge crowds. I actually went down there once, many years ago, and the crowds were just too much for me, trying to get home on the subway.

It was fairly quiet here; I could hear fireworks celebrating going on somewhere close by, but I think it was a sponsored celebration. There will probably be some illegal ones set off tonight. So sad for all the unhappy pets, especially ones that are scared by the awfully loud noises! :frowning:

It’s been really rainy here, so all extraneous (prolly not spelled right but ask me if I care :stuck_out_tongue: ) fireworks ain’t happenin’. YAY! We had a “significant weather” system pass through. Seriously the NWS issued a “significant weather” warning. Bunch of rain some lightning but nuttin’ I’d say was “significant”. On the positive side, it’s a wunnerful 72 degrees Amurrkin outside with almost no humidity and still rainy.

We went to KFC and brought home dindin. Both of decided that we abolutely must try out their chipotle chicken. Meh. It was good but not real spicy. I’m not a big fan of the extra crispy chicken and the chipotle chicken is extra crispy. It would have been a whole lot better if it had been spicy the way we expect chipotle to be. Still, it was better than cookin’ so there’s that.

MOOOOOOM you need a pair of fuzzy bunny slippers to complete that outfit.

**swampy **- I’d have a pair of fuzzy bunny slippers if the durn rabbits in the yard would slow down…

Kids are on their way. Poke with BBQ sauce is in the microwave. Chunks of N.O.T. and onions are cooking in a pan. Amish corn on the cob is steaming. Amish 'maters are sliced and in the fridge. Cuke salad with Amish cukes is in the fridge. I’m hongry!!!

Ice cream for dessert. I still need a foot rub. Or a hot tub. Or a foot rub while soaking in a hot tub. Is that asking too much???

:frowning:

How bout a hot rub while soakin’ in a foot tub?

home. Fajitas for dinner for me, kibble for Thing 1 and Thing 2. Eight days till maybe vacation. Nelly just took the cat food dish into my room.

FCM, stick your foot into the CD drive, and I’ll see what i can do about the rub.

BBBobbio, I can see it now:

Vbob: I’ll give her mouth to mouth!
VKid: No, father I will!
Hot Blonde: Guys, I just have a broken leg.

rigs, I hope TH keeps/gets another job, for your sake.

Are you watching paint dry right now, gt? : d&r :

Congrats on having a door, Rebo!

Thunderboomer comin’! Yay!

So… I was sleeping at away happily taking a nice little nap until the phone rang. :frowning: Oh well, I’m awake now and a store bought pizza is in the oven.
