The End of the Road...An Island MMP

I’ll take the 14th, but I can’t guarantee that it’ll be cheerful.

In other news, my page-a-day thesis calendar has resulted in the fifth page written! (I took the 4th off–national holiday, yanno).

Also Mint Crisp M&M’s are well worth your nomming dollar. Why must they be promotional? WHYYYYYYYYY?

Whew! Busy day. We went shopping for most of the rest of the stuff we need for the basement. Just over $2K, but the 10% off coupon helped. We have to go back on Tues to pick up the big things (we ran out of space to get it all) and that should be it for the big stuff. From here on out, it should be dribs and drabs.

We put the laundry room back together and it’s very bright! We’ll have to take the washer and dryer out one more time when we install the tile floor. We got a super deal on the tiles - ceramic 12 X 12 in a nice sand color for 68 cents each! Woo and Hoo!! After we got all the crap home, SIL and I pulled wire for the lights down the west side of the basement, then **FCD **came down and helped us finish up. SIL installed the light switches and I helped **FCD **hook up the light fixtures. As soon as I get my computer fixed, I’ll post pics.

Tomorrow, SIL and I are making a dump run. Then we’ll try to finish some of the wire runs so I’ll have zone lighting in my studio. We may be able to run the TV cable, too. The plan is to finish the living room/bedroom/closet/bathroom first so the kids can move downstairs, then we can take care of the kitchen/stairwell/nook/new door.

Meanwhile, I’m exhausted and my feet still hurt. I think this calls for medicinal ice cream. And I’ll probably sign off now till some time tomorrow. If I wasn’t having 'puter issues, I’d start things tomorrow, but, alas, that is not an option.

C’y’all in the next MMP!

Yes, I did enjoy it, Soapy; thanks for the tip!

Sounds like you got lots more done than I did, FCM. I’ve been re-stocking the kitchen shelves (I’d removed a bunch of the breakables so that I could climb up into the attic) and uploading pictures.

I’ve got you signed up for the 14th, Spaz (there’s no cheerfulness requirement - we’ve had some mighty somber OPs, but we eventually manage our way to the usual mundaneness/mundanity?). I think I might take tomorrow unless anyone pipes up with a strong desire to get us started.

Back to trying to get stuff done. I think I might go finish some stuff in the garden. Also, there’s recycling to put out. Yes, it is a thrill a minute chez GT.

So, I decided to try to find some new shorts/capris online… Well, I haven’t clicked the ‘button’ yet but so far I’ve got 1 shirt, 2 fancy sleveless tanks, 1 pair of capris and two bras for about $140.00 :dubious:

Well, I need pants and bras… And other than that I can’t usually help myself.

The world should end soon. I am attempting to make myself a dress out of some cute smocked fabric that I picked up from Joann’s on sale for something silly like 70% off. I’m am SO not a sewer. This could be interesting. Wish me luck.

Cutie Pie I bought a pair of capris, a v-neck t-shirt, a tank top, and a really cute red top today. I say go buy it.

FCM: when we redid the powder room, we needed exactly 12 tiles of 12x12 tiles. They were on sale for $1 each. I love my $12 floor…

#1 son is back and has not slept in a very long time. He has no idea what time it is in Sydney right now. He did not sleep on the plane at all. He was tired in the car, but seems to have caught a “second” wind. We’ve eaten and souvenirs have been passed out. #2 son got an Aussie T shirt, TH got an Aussie mousepad (with all of the EU ominously inside it), Daughter got an opal necklace and I got a handpainted Aboriginal bookmark. All are very nice (and portable). #1 son got himself a T shirt and a boomerang and a small diggeridoo (sp?).
Dinner is done, lemon meringue tarts were a big hit. I’m full and content. Family is home and everyone is well. yay!

Oh, and #1 son did NIGHT dives on the GBR and some of their group saw a sturgeon. He saw a turtle with a shel the size of his suitcase, but missed the one the size of our kitchen table. He also saw many kangaroos, no wombats or koalas, though and ate kangaroo meat. He says it tastes like “meat”. #1 son has untold creative powers…

Nah, I passed. I’m going to look for local sales in lieu of paying shipping. I think Fashion Bug has some capris on sale at 40% off right now and they’re usually in my price range.

Home. I think I pulled a muscle in my side. Just. By. Bending. Over. Old age sucks. Much work before a possible vacation.

Good luck not ending the world, McUne. Wait, tomorrow’s Monday. Nuke the thing from orbit!

Congrats on the hickeys and car, Flutter! I should take a picture of my newish car.

rigs, glad the son is home.

Hope you get a seller, Taters.

#1 son is no longer home. WTF? He is now out at his friend’s house.
<shakes head>

Off to get ready for work tomorrow. Front porch is almost all painted–yay for TH and Daughter today!

Apparently the young are able to function on far less sleep than us old people. I’m glad #1 son is home safe and sound, though – sounds like he had a great time. So what’s with the new girlfriend in London?

Your household productivity exhausts me, FCM. I’m glad to see you’re putting SIL to work, though – it’s only fair, after all, since it’ll be his apartment, too!

And speaking of household productivity, we’ve decided to offer an exchange to our landlord – he lets us put in a dog door next to the back doors (can’t install them in a door because of their style) and Papa Tigs builds a new set of back steps, which are desperately needed; the current ones are warped all to hell. I think that’s a reasonable exchange. We’re also going to propose that landlord pay for a small roof over the back exit, since currently there’s only about 3" of eaves and that’s the direction most of the rain comes from; whoever installed laminate wood floor up to the doorway was an idiot since it was half ruined already when we moved in thanks to zero roof. It’s his floor that’s going to need replacing, after all!

This evening has been totally lazy. I watched the last of the Olympic swimming/track & field trials, then came back to my computer an hour ago and have been assiduously not working. I recently discovered the music of Vienna Teng, so I’ve been listening to that and playing mindless computer games. Alas, productivity is in my future this week, considering how much #(*&#$ work I have here to do. I foresee an early bedtime tonight, however.

I am NOT volunteering for tomorrow’s MMP; my mind is nearly as empty as Rusty’s this evening.

I didn’t end the world. The dress is finished. I’m proud of it though I look like a beached whale in it. At least it’s comfy and I can wear it around the house.

I think if I take the skirt part in a bit I will look less like a beached whale.

He says they’re just friends–it would be like my brother to exaggerate a bit. She’s Indian and lives in London. He says she’s really nice. I am somewhat surprised she was allowed to spend time with him (he knows an Indian girl at his HS that has an arranged marriage. Gah–I know not all Indians do this etc, but most Indian girls are more strictly chaperoned, then again, #1 son was probably perfect: they met and spent maybe 2 days together and that was that.) Sometimes I hate the internet because I feel I have to spell everything out like that…

Anyhoo, they met on a tour of something. Apparently, Uncle and Nephew spent a great deal of time in pubs. Pubs and eating are 2 of my brother’s favorite habits. #1 son was allowed in, but was bored out of his mind. He’s decided he doesn’t like pubs. He also discovered he doesn’t share the same travel goals as his uncle–this is good to know. Example: when #1 son travels, he won’t spend $100 on LUNCH.

Me neither. No wonder the money we gave him didn’t last!

My brother is single and likes sushi and fine wine. Gah…
Off to bed soon. #1 son is home now. I hope he sleeps soon.

Is anyone going to do the MMP tomorrow? If not I can toss one together and post it before I go to bed tonight.

Well I got something all typed up and all I hear are crickets chirping, I’m talking the liberty of doing the MMP. Hope that is ok with everyone!

New MMP can be found here.

Heh…we simulposted. But you beat me by a hair. I’m going to ask the mods to combine mine into yours.
