The End of the Road...An Island MMP

:frowning: Agency meeting just got over. Five people [del]dumped[/del] laid off. A freeze on salary increases for the foreseeable future and a freeze on new hires. All because of the price of oil. :frowning:

Can anyone who has any motivation today please share some with me? Because I haven’t got a shred. Thus far about the only constructive thing I’ve done is take Isaac outside for his playtime, which due to the humidity was quite abbreviated, which didn’t upset me in the slightest since I was feeling the humidity as much as he was.

I think it’s the weather. It’s getting darker and darker out, and even though there’s only a moderate chance of us getting any rain (I see one storm just moved by north of us, and there’s nothing out to our west as far as the Blue Ridge), it just feels like the kind of day you want to crawl back in bed with a good book and a snuggly kittycat. Plus this kind of weather makes me ache all over. I am just waaaay too sensitive to barometric changes. :frowning:

How are you liking the Kureyon sock yarn, Shadow? It feels awfully scratchy to me. I’d probably enjoy a shawl made out of it, but my feet cringe at the thought of actually knitting socks with it. Pictures would be nice, hint hint!

Damn, that sucks. Your job is safe, right?

Sorry… can’t help. I’ve spent most of the day on the Dope. Blurgh. I wanna go home!

Ok, I’m only gonna say this once: I have been cleaning #1 son’s room for 3 hours.

He says he has no clothes: I have washed, dried, folded and put away 47 T shirts in decent shape. There is a separate pile for those too small etc.

I am heartily sick of his room, too. I made snickerdoodles-- I think they make a well balanced dinner, no? They have eggs, wheat germ and walnuts in them…
No motivation, but must finish the room so I don’t have to do this again for a long time. I think #1 son has Executive Processing Disorder and I need to address this with him (aka stand over him to have him tidy his room once a week).

I’ll catch up later–no WhyNot yet. Maybe traffic is bad.

I make a motion that we all go to kai’s for a visit/vacation/MumpFest! All in favor?? It does sound like a wunnerful place. And all them sqeeeeeeeeable puppies! So sweet!!

Based upon suggestions from coworkers, I opened my computer and vacuumed it out (I’m not gonna tell you how furry it was in there! ) then loaded a registry cleaner and ran it (over 1200 errors  ) Anyway, since doing that and hooking it back up, it’s running silently and hasn’t crashed. Mebbe I fixed it??

I mowed the yard and the side today. SIL is going to take the push mower to the ditch and the hill tomorrow. We just had a lovely rain, and the temp is supposed to drop into the 60s tonight. I foresee window openage. Tomorrow will be mild, then the heat returns. I’ll take what I can get when I can get it.

SIL has a job interview on Wednesday. Crossed fingers and positive thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

So far, daughter’s car is up to $1200. There may be more after then can drive it and try to figure out a noise in the front. It’s gotta be done, so we’re gonna cover the bill and they’ll repay us when they can. At least we’re able to help them.

Anyway, Happy Monday!

{{{Puggy}}}

rigs, wow, I’m impressed. 47 t-shirts.

MamaTigs, the sock yarn isn’t merino, that’s for sure. I don’t know about using it for socks, I don’t knit tight enough to use such a lightweight yarn without doubling it, but most people seem to be happy with it. I think you could wear socks made out of Kureyon as a substitute for pumice. My shawl is, er, *rustic * looking, but I like the way it’s coming out. My camera is at home, so I’ll post pictures later.

Crosses fingers for FCM’s SIL.

And for entertainment, from a deposition I’m working on, here is the Stupid Question of the Day:

I agree about the pumice socks, Shadow. They’d definitely do a great job of exfoliating your feet!

Only 47 t-shirts, rigs? Your son must be a real slacker. At least you didn’t find a drawer full of dirty dishes, like I did when I cleaned out Young Tiger’s room after he went off to the Air Force. He’d been too lazy to take them downstairs to the kitchen, so he just kept shoving them in one of his dresser drawers. :smack: He still gets extremely embarrassed when we mention it, for obvious reasons!

Papa Tigs has learned something about the carpool he’s hoping to join: In the intervening time since they last asked him if he’d be able to join it and he had to decline (even though he organized it), they’ve found a fourth person! :frowning: So that means there’s no room for him. :frowning: So he’s going to look into organizing a vanpool; if they’re actually planning on working normal civilian hours instead of insanely early military hours, they just might be able to get the 12-15 people they need for one. Heaven knows there’s a zillion people commuting from Annapolis to D.C. each day, judging by the ultra-clogged state of Route 50.

Home.

I second the motion that we all visit kai. And I agree that knowing people in places where the news is happening makes it much more meaningful.

ETA: forgot hugs for Puggy and co-workers.

There was more I’ll get to later…

Off to Home Despot to get some sample cans of paint (gotta make sure I really want to use the colors I picked out). They’re having a $5 per can rebate on Behr paint until 7/2. I’m considering buying all my paint (for indoors and out) by then.

Back in a bit…

GT

We used Behr paint a few years back and were very pleased with it, gt; it was considerably more washable than the rest of the paint in our then-house. Just in case you’ve never used it before and didn’t know if it’s good quality.

Off work.

Thank goodness.

Time for a drunken Wii tennis party, and Canada Day tomorrow.

Have a good night guys!

Pug that sucks. For the laid off folk and the no raises.

I’m home and fed. Papa John’s made dinner for a modest fee. I’s just too tahred to cook. Ok, too lazy.

Only a half day of work left this week. YAY! Today I decided to take next Monday off also just cause, so It’s like a six and a half day weekend. Ol’ y’all know who is takin’ off Thursday, Friday and Monday and we’re gonna do… nuttin’! Well, we are doin’ it up with some friends on the Fourth but other than that we’re slugs. It may be rainy pretty much but that’s ok too.

Appropriate and inappropriate appendages crossed for the SIL MOOOOOOM.

Ok, off to surf a bit.

Okay, then. It appears that I’ll be getting exactly what I wanted, if not more. Apparently I’m going to create the entire menu for the coffeeshop in my building, staff it, etc. Should be interesting…

Hey.

Rough couple of days…

Makings of a long week…

Spent the afternoon at the pool with the kids, some friends and my husband brought dinner by after work, so that was nice.

Kids go to camp next week, so I’ll be hanging in my college office getting some work done then. Wheee.

Off work, also. I misbudgeted and so my food budget for the next week - week and a half is about 10 dollars. I spent it last night - I have bread, bananas, chips and salsa, ramen, some canned vegetables, popcorn, and diet coke. Well, some of those were in the house already, but you know what I mean.

So… What would you serve if you ran a coffee shop? I’m starting from scratch here, all suggestions welcome.

Coffee? :stuck_out_tongue:

ETA: If you hire me, Pie, I will serve myself on a platter.

Why it took me a couple of days to figure out why we have so many families with several kids underfoot here at work, I don’t know, because we’ve got a huge group from Utah here. Utah=Mormons=big families. Duh. :smack:

Tomorrow is farmer’s market day again, and again, I don’t have much money. But I have some. I hope the strawberry people will be there again. droooooooooooooool

Yes, of course I expected you’d be there. But what would you like as your accompaniment???

Actually, I’ve been working on a list. Here goes so far:

Blueberry muffins
Chocolate Chip muffins
2 other assorted muffins at random (1st two muffins everyday with others interspersed.)
Cinnamon rolls
Sticky Buns
CDTs (er, I’ll post the recipe for these later) (CDT=Cinnamon Dessert Thingy)
Lemon Pepper scones
Cranberry scones
Mini Cream Cheese almond pound cakes
chocolate chip cookies
Oatmeal cookies
peanut butter cookies
other misc cookies
biscotti of the week
carrot cake
chocolate mousse cake
Too much, too little?

Pie here are my thoughts. Take them or leave them. I take payment in form of tea.

Lemon Poppy Seed Muffin
Blueberry Muffin
Muffin of the day
Scones
Cinnamon Rolls
Breakfast Breads
Bagels with cream cheese
Fruit or yogurt. Something healthier for those watching what they eat.

Coffee
Iced Coffee
Tea
Iced Tea
Lattes
Water
Bottled Juices of some sort

Variety of cookies
Cupcakes or brownies, alternating daily.

I would also have a weekly or daily special. Something like Muffin, choice of coffee or tea for a slight discount, rather than buy them individually.

For your coffee or tea buyers I would have a punch card where they buy a certain number of beverages they earn a free one.
