The End of the Road...An Island MMP

Hi all. Another “let’s pretend to be busy” day today! My boss is being a complete loser and thinks he’s punishing me (for being sick yesterday) by not talking to me! Suits me fine - I am perfectly happy sitting in my office, surfing the Dope and doin’ a whole heapin’ load of not much! The guy is truly an amazingly useless lump of flesh!

gotti, you two make a “beary” (teehee) cute couple, but you need to let me know which one you are in the pics? I have to admit that, while I originally had you pegged as a woman (don’t ask me why!), I more recently had a mental image of you as a “Jerry Seinfeld” type guy (not that there’s anything wrong with that!).

Pie, 23 1/2 hour service means they are available around the clock, except for the half-hour when you will need them (any times of day or night, if you call they will be closed!) Oh, if you want to have a private chat about possible business models (or legal set-ups), just PM me!

I got home yesterday, and slept for 12 hours straight. Back to work.

Well, I’ve been here at work alone today up till now but I’m moving really slow so I asked GilaMonster to come in early. If for no other reason than moral support.

Dotty, thanks! I will definitely PM you later today.

Just missed having another lunch to cater by about 1 1/2 minutes. :frowning: But at least I tried, I called them back and they said that they’ll keep me in mind next time.
Hey, question for those of you crafty Mumpers… We need something to act as blinds for my huge irregular shaped windows. GilaMonster suggested sewing a tab pocket on sheets and hanging them, but I’m afraid that they’ll look too much like, well, sheets. Any other suggestions for low cost blinds? I’ve got to do something to lower my electricity costs, or else I truly will be out of business. Last month the bill for my measly 1400 sq ft was $610.

Morning. I am here. Blergh. Back after more caffeine.

Well, I woke up about 30 minutes ahead of my alarm to the sounds of THUNK THUNK THUNK whirrrrrrrr water, etc.

The bathtub drain has been clogged (and by extension, the sink) in the bathroom next to my room since I moved in (4 months ago?). So the landlord gets someone to come fix it, and he shows up at 7:30 IN THE MORNING. I’m awake earlier than anyone else in the house, and it even bothers me. For that matter, WHO WAS AWAKE TO LET HIM IN?

Also, funny story from last night (I’ll keep it brief and PG). A friend of mine from Hot Springs (about 30 minutes away) found someone else in town who wanted to have a 3-way with me and him, and wanted me to drive out there. “I think not!”, I say, “I only have a quarter-tank of gas, come on over here.” At the time, there is no one home but me. So right before the pull in the driveway, one roommate comes home. We finish some time later, and the secret exit (a door of my room that leads straight through to the front door) is blocked by another door in that hallway, so they had to do the walk of shame through my living room, which now contained 2 people.

Actually, that probably isn’t all that funny to anyone else, but I’m new to this whole “sex with roommates in the house” thing, so it makes me giggly to think about.

Also, gotti you boys are kyoot! One of these days it’ll be legal in AR, I’m sure.

Pie, you’re coming down here to start that, right? You’d be without competition, we don’t have any coffeeshops in town.

YAY **gotti **and DH! Congrats!

KeithT manages his van, which is one of 3 that his company sponsors. They use a van pool company which takes care of the insurance, maintenance, etc. If you want more info on the company they use and/or how it all works, PM me and I’ll get the info from him.

gt, if you’re looking for paint recommendations (dunno if you were or if you were just stating what you’re getting), we really liked Benjamin Moore. The house came painted (inside) in contractor-grade Sherwin Williams, and it sucks compared to the Benjamin Moore stuff which is nice and smooth and thick and was easy to put on with good coverage.

Pie, I’d second or third or whatever the idea to start small. Start off with just a couple muffins per day and some fruit cups and yogurt. Then as the business grows, add more. People will be happier when you *add *scones or coffee cake or whatever in the future than if you started with lots of choices and then found some of them weren’t profitable and took them away. Plus, if you just make a few items you can make a good number of them (say, a couple dozen of each of 2 kinds of muffins) so you’re less likely to run out of someone’s favorite, whereas if you made 8 different things, you’d only want to make a few of each so you wouldn’t end up throwing away a lot, but then you’re more likely to be sold out of the popular ones. Anyway, just my 2 cents.

Our big excitement - we’re getting a new toilet!! Yay! OK, so it doesn’t sound that exciting, but all 3 of ours are the low-flow type, and we have to plunge them every time we use them for anything other than pee. Then last night the downstairs toilet overflowed, which was the last straw. So we’ve ordered a new toilet online based on recommendations KeithT found (There are message boards devoted to toilets! Who knew?) and they send it with free delivery! We’re having it sent to my work though, so my coworkers are all going to know that we have a new toilet. Yippee.

Mornin all.

My day at work should be boring today as I mostly need to pay invoices. We’ll see though.

I’m having dinner with a few other dopers at a hamburger joint near Harvard tonight; it should be fun. We Boston dopers seem to like meeting up to eat!

I need to make a library run after work and before dinner. The big Boston library is holding Fearless Fourteen for me. They haven’t been open at a time when I could go pick up the book before today. I’m pretty excited. It should be good. Stephanie Plum is sooo funny.

UGH to the things that teenagers keep in their rooms. I don’t remember doing anything like that, but my sister kept some really gross things.

ETA: Congrats Gotti!! (I knew I forgot something I was going to say. Sorry!)

I like to have the paperbacks so I’m waiting for whatever 13 was to come out in paperback (which I think actually happened yesterday) so I can buy that. So I’m always a year behind on those, but I do love the series.

13 is definately out in paperback. I know I saw it a couple of days ago at Target. I own them in paperback, my problem is that I never want to wait that long to read them…Solution: check the hardcover out from the library.

I’ll consider it my birthday present.

<Need evil smiley here>
GT–I know! I just threw up my hands and said to get his resume together. TH was the peacemaker in his alcoholic family and I am getting more than exasperated by his trying to find excuses for VEB or rationalize this all away. Some people are conscienceless bastards, VEB (apparently) being, if not Voldemort, than at least Barty Crouch Jr. (HP allusion completely lost on TH, I just use it here for fun). Then TH comes out with, “I’m just not good at X.” Oh, where is that wet trout when it’s needed? So I ranted a bit–not at him, but the situation. I did tell him to look at his strengths and not listen to the poison that VEB is telling him (TH did have a few “dings” from the examiners, but let’s put this into perspective: it’d be like the doctor amputating the wrong leg, trying to hang the circulating nurse for hanging the wrong IV fluid. Sure, that’s wrong, but the major issue is the lost limb!).
BooFae: I have a picture of TK sitting in her office, holding HER breath until you change your mind. I so want her to ask you why and for you to say (in that downplayed British way), “oh, least said, soonest mended. Cheerio!” and walk out…

I think that soup or something along the lines of a Croque Monsieur would be great. How about some kind of “finger” snacky veggie thing? Baby carrots, cut up broccoli, etc with a small thing o’ dip? And you must have tea for all of us who don’t worship the coffee bean. Ta.

Congrats **Gotti ** and DH!!! Loved the pictures!

If anyone is interested in the paper doll outfits I made check them out here. I’m really happy with how they turned out.

PUFFY PUPPY PICS!

Gots no time for more than that, zoom

pie, your menu sound delish! I agree with the others on adding a balance of savory items.

gotti, yeah, which kee-ute bear is you and which one is DH?

rigs, well at least TH is discussing the situation with you.

I remember the toxic teen room quite well. The girl was fairly neat but the boy?

mcune, the doll clothes are adorable!

That’s all I gots today.

Tupug

Those are too cute McUne!! I’ve made many sets of regular doll clothes, but I’ve never endeavored to make them in paper. The underwear set makes me think bikini at the beach with its bold tropical print.

Urgh. One hour of sleep last night.

Feel a little better now.

Thanks **Tupug ** and **mousie ** for the compliments on the doll clothes. I hope I get runner up or win something in the contest. If not, I had a blast making the clothes!!

**Mousie ** I was thinking the same thing with the bra and panty set, but I am SO not a sewer and that is the fabric I had on hand so I just went with it. Though I must admit I do have some wild colored bras myself, LOL.

**LiLi ** did you have a rough night with Nat?

Sorry for the double post but I just thought of something that I’m hoping the mumpers have an answer for.

Last evening was quite interesting. The young couple that lives directly behind us was cops with huge guns (I think hubby said they were AK’s or something like that, i wasn’t paying attention) out in front of their houses for quite a while last night. All we found out was that they were serving a warrant for the guy that lived there. I don’t know his last name though. Is there a way to find out why the warrant was served? If it helps we are in Minnesota. I’m willing to give out the county or even city via PM if someone is able to help me.

Yeah, but the number of people on the reserve list at the library is so long that I figure it’ll be a year before I get the book and by that point it’ll be out in paperback anyway!

McUne, great paper doll clothes! Fun!

One of my coworkers showed us a website that listed everyone arrested in her town… but I don’t know now where that was or how she found it. And I don’t know if that would cover warrants served… I would thing so because those people would be arrested, right? I can ask her how to find that if you want.

ETA: Did you try googling your city name and “police blotter”?

Yeah,I had that problem when 12 came out. So, now I reserve the book a couple of months early. (They come out every June, so I put myself on the list in March or so.)

The police blotter was my first thought too, McUne.

Actually, our wedding wasn’t Pagan, Catholic, or anything. It really was just a nice embellishment of “Do you take him to be your spouse?”

Well, we were both in knee-high boots. I’m the tall one that would be unable to hide anywhere except a pumpkin patch. DH almost wore a kilt that day as well, but his would have been a much more subdued wool.
