Spaz - cool on the novel in genesis. Have you heard of the pantsers versus the plotters (outliners)? See some people who write just do it by the seat of their pants and see where it takes 'em. And some outline. I’m more of an ploter. The truth is even if you outline what you’re describing happens anyway… things change. You decide that something make more sense earlier or later. Motivations change, characters disappear. Your hero becomes your villain. You hate your heroine (not that I’ve ever done that cough, cough).

We had the solar panels put on today. Now we wait for the city to come by and say, “yep, those are solar panels” and the utility company to switch things on their end so electricity flows both ways. How cool is that!

I finally heard back from the realtor and I told her how I feel and it wasn’t nice. Of course it’s not the realtors fault but I told her I have my own crazy ass bitch of a sister to deal with and I’m not going to deal with another one.

I have actually been busy today (Monday) and not been able to spend much time online. That’s probably a good thing, for me. For Sunday dinner, we finally made the cheeseburger casserole, and oh boy was it ever good! This is the one that had pickles in it, and a sheet of the crescent roll dough on top, so it was like a cheeseburger. It’s really quite delicious.

I am loving keeping up with Moooommm’s cruise, but boy howdy I sure couldn’t figure out how those places in Iceland would be pronouced! LOL I had to call the places “whachamacallit” when I was “reading” them to myself. You know what I mean. LOL Iceland does sound like a fantastic place, though.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up, caffienated, and purtified, so no YAWN Ima go meet OYKW for brekkie at IHOP cause he wants IHOP and said last night he wanted to go for brekkie today. Hey, he’s payin’ so who am I to argue. ‘Tis 75 Amurrkin out with a predicted high of 89 and afternoon tstorms. We shall see. I’m headin’ to the southeast forty first thing today and hope to be back by afternoon.

What is a day at sea like, you may wonder, if you’ve never cruise before. It’s currently very early on the 16th and we’ve got 5 of these days ahead of us before we reach New York, with our stop in St. Johns, Newfoundland, coming on the 19th. So I thought I might give you a vague idea of what our days will be like.
Every evening, usually a bit before 9, the Princess Patter is delivered to each room. If I had a scanner, I’d attach a copy for your enjoyment. It’s a 4 page schedule of the next day’s activities inside, with a “Meet the…” various senior personnel article on the front, a brief and not-too-helpful weather summary (most have read “partly cloudy, temp 12°C/54°F” or the temps as expected, followed by sunrise/sunset times. At the bottom of the front page, there will be a note – today’s tells us to set our clock back an hour. (We’ll do that almost daily till we get back on Eastern Time.)

The back page has locations and hours of the dining rooms and other places of interest like the library, the casino, and the medical center, and the various clubs and lounges. There are other miscellaneous notes depending on the company’s agenda – for example, today’s is pushing future cruise sales.

On today’s schedule within, they list movies, whether playing in the theater, on deck (brrrrrrr) or on the ship’s TV, get-togethers (like for crafters or veterans or singles or LGBT), games – bridge, board games, Sudoku, bingo – classes (beginners tap is at 1215 today), shopping events like the $10 sale, and seminars. For the evening schedule, they describe the various entertainments and where they’re located. So tonight at 5 and 7, the string quartet will be playing in the Piazza (they are really good!!), there will be a production show in the main theater 3 different times tonight, “The Amazing and Amusing Carl Andrews” will be performing in the Explorers Lounge, Elvis hour with DJ Romeo in Skywalkers Lounge, a pianist in Crooners lounge, dancing in Club Fusion, more dancing in the Wheelhouse Bar, Texas Hold’em in the Casino, and other stuff. We’re going to the second production show since we expect it to be less crowded.

Anyway, that’s pretty typical of what’s available every day. When we’re in port, there are fewer options during the day because most people leave the ship. And for our unexpected at-sea day, they threw together some extra activities. Mom and I were sitting in Crooner’s – she reading, I crocheting – and we heard the paper airplane competition in the Atrium. Earlier that day, we’d gone to Skywalker’s Lounge on deck 18 because it’s usually really quiet – she had a crossword book, and I was trying to finish a pair of slippers. As it turned out, that’s where Knitters and Natters gather, and when the first few came up and saw me with yarn, they all came and sat with us. Boy, was I out of place – all these women with really, really expensive yarns (one woman spent $100 for a skein that wouldn’t even make a scarf!!!) and there I sat with my cheapo acrylic! No, I didn’t care and I wasn’t embarrassed. But I was aghast
at what some people will spend on yarn – I don’t care how soft the underneck hair of a certain buffalo is!

Now, if you’re sailing in the Caribbean or some other warm place, add activities around the pool(s). This ship has a small putt-putt course on deck 19, plus a jogging track and a basketball court enclosed in netting so the balls don’t go overboard. I suppose some hearty souls may use that. A great many walk the promenade deck, except for the rather nasty day when they closed it. There are lots of deck chairs along the promenade deck, a lovely, quiet place to sit if the weather is right. That’s where we rode into Bergen, and it was very nice. But as we transit the north Atlantic, I expect it’ll be a bit brisk.

Several people saw the northern lights a few nights ago, but I missed them. I tried to see them the next night, but it was overcast. We’ll see if there’s anything the next few nights – luckily our cabin is on the north side of the ship as we head west, so we might get lucky.

Anyway, that’s another aspect of life at sea – the part that doesn’t involve buffets. Oh, and two of these at-sea days will be formals. Rah. I don’t understand the love of getting all gussied up, but then I’m not particularly girly. I will wear a dress at least one of the nights, but it won’t be anything special for me. Still, I brought the stuff, so I might as well wear it, right? And we’ve become quite adept at avoiding the strolling photographers. They took pics our first night at dinner and they looked particularly horrible. We’ve declined, since we have no intention of buying portraits anyway.

So there ya go – life at sea. Does it make you want to run out and book a cruise??
