The Expanse season 2 episode discussion (spoilers as it airs)

I was impressed how they handled and resolved the dilemma of too many refugees for the Somnambulist. That was a nice bit of storytelling, and a nice bit of acting by the actress who plays Naomi.

Is it just me, or do other people think TV Errinwright is way more bad-ass than Book Errinwright? That was some cold ass killer shit he pulled last night!

It’s not just you.

So the hybrid made it onto one of the ships, It was the Rosinante, right? Looks like it punched a hole through it’s armor? How does that happen without alarms ringing?

Also, fuck, with the other ship tagging along, they could have saved more people :frowning: I felt so bad for that little boy running back to his mommy. This episode really brought home to me the plight of the belters, which I had mostly seen as a bunch of rabble-rousers.

Man, fuck the earthers and the Martians. Belters for life.

She looked fabulous. Errinwright should be very, very afraid.

Any book readers somewhat disappointed in how they’ve played out the discovery of the children and the proto-human hybrid experiments in the show? It has been awhile but I recall in the books there being a whole lot more running gun-fight/battle action in that sequence than was shown on t.v.

Two questions related questions to that portion of the story, both can be considered spoilers.
In the books Holden and crew found Mei alive, right? Anyone else kinda disappointed they’re not giving Prax his full desperate father angst and reunion with his daughter?

My DVR cut off the last bit of the show. Did they show the proto-human hybrid had gotten onboard the Roci?
Overall I’m still very excited about the show, best Sci-Fi since the early episodes of BSG.

Well, they’re starting to diverge from the book quite significantly in the fine details now, and at least a bit in the larger narrative. I figure the reduced amount of gun fight action is probably related to budget constraints, trading off gun fights for space scenes, as well as screen time. A bigger gun fight would have taken more time, for what would ultimately be the same result, in terms of story progression.

Yes, they did, although apparently some people watching just the show had trouble figuring out which ship it was.

2018 can’t come soon enough.

That was the last episode fo the season?!

Argh. Watching it tonight. How good was it on a scale of 1 to 10?

8? It was well done and had tense moments, but a bit uneven and didn’t really have as much of a “Holy Shit” moment (though they tried) as the end of Season 1 did.

I liked it, it tied up some lose ends from the season, and left things open without actually being a cliffhanger, call it maybe an 8?

But yeah, it would be nice if they went to full seasons, a dozen or so episodes a year isn’t quite enough.

I like the dozen eps. It allows for them to tell a tight knit story (22 ep seasons tend to lag in the middle) and not blow the CGI budget too badly.

Besides, 13 eps is fast becoming the standard for more ‘prestige’ dramas.

Fair enough, and I’ll agree that the traditional season lengths usually mean that there are filler episodes that do nothing for the story, but are only there to pad the numbers, but I still find myself disappointed that there are so few episodes to watch in a given year. Maybe if there were many other shows that were worth watching, then it wouldn’t be as annoying.

It’s nice to have a go to show or two for the fall/spring, then the summer break.

Agree with previous posters, the season finale was a solid 8/10. Amos had fantastic scenes this episode. As those who have read the books already know, they’ve deviated from the books bringing some characters and storylines forward and changing others. Overall though, they’ve hit all the high-notes of the books and story arc nicely. I’m glad to see Mei is still alive but a bit disappointed that that story is going to carry over into the next season. I really wish they’d have wrapped that up on Ganymede.

I’m re-reading the books, just finished Leviathan Wakes. From the books I am struck (again) with how much I dislike James Holden. The t.v. character is much more likable than the book character in the early portions of the story. Book Holden is just too self-righteous, too smug and naive about the consequences of his actions. The show has somewhat sidestepped all of those issues and made Holden more likable as a result. I’m okay with that.

One thing about me and this show is I am terrible with names. I have watched and enjoyed every episode of the series so far but I couldn’t tell you one character’s name. I take that back. I learned the Martian solider’s name is Bobbi. But no one else’s.

Haven’t read the books, (thought they have been appended to my very long “to read” list), but given the TV series, Holden is my least liked character, mostly because of the things you just named.

Maybe he was so much worse in the books that he comes across as better on the series, but I hate him as captain, as I disagree with nearly all his decisions.

I think he’s a useful foil in both the books and show. His smug righteousness is annoying in both, and he’s not a very likable character in either. But his presence makes the other characters more interesting by giving them something to play off of. I don’t like him, but the books and show would be worse without him.

Oh yeah, he’s an integral part of the show, and I think he’s well played, I just don’t like him, as in, if I lived in that time, and I had interactions with him, I’d be like, “Man, what an ass, I really don’t like him.”
