Welcome back! The SDMB ain’t the same without you.
Ddamn! Welcome back, Skald!
How do we know you aren’t one of the clones, freshly escaped and ready to conquer the world?
I’m late to the pity party – no, no, the pity is for us who have so enjoyed your presence here and hate to lose you! You Skald seem to have your head squarely on your shoulders. I wish you the best with your medical issues, and fully understand and support your desire to concentrate on family. But if it diverts you, or entertains you, I hope you’ll grace us here with an occasional post. Or maybe even a new hypothetical!
Great news.
Damn. Now we’re going to have to buy back all of his stuff we auctioned off.
Hi Skald!
We love you!
I should have suspected! Typical supervillain sympathy ploy!
Glad you’re not dead. I wish you luck getting blood flow back to your miserable eyes.
Welcome back to you, Skald, and your special eyes.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery, and here’s hoping your future procedures/surgeries are as successful as this one.
I won’t use a large font, as I assume you are already magnifying the screen.
But have you checked out any large print books? I’m pretty sure I’ve seen some with fonts 250% or more of normal print. Even if you can only get a couple, I thought it might help.
Here’s a website that will print large-print books on demand. Unfortunately, the authors are limited.
There is a large-print Hobbit book on Amazon, but I’m not sure it’s large enough. But do note that they take care to use better fonts.
My stepdaughter bought me new copies of LotR in large print. But a lot of my favorites are out of print even in regular sze editions and may never have been in large print editions.
The font sie FACE…BLANK left was just about perfect
Have you looked at e-readers?
I have already begun to migrade to e-readers. I just prefer the tactile experience of books.
Hi, Skald. Glad you’re not dead.
I like physical books, better, too, but I do all my reading on my Paperwhite these days because I have crap eyesight and I can crank up the font. The e-Ink readers like the Paperwhite, Voyage and Kobo are all superior to the tablets, for reading, because the e-Ink is easier on the eyes. Once you get used to it, I think you’ll find that the e-ink readers have charms of their own.
Not dying is always a great way to roll into a weekend! Glad you’ve managed to get over 1 set of hurdles and feel better about kicking over other ones.
I managed to miss this - not sure how. Best wishes to you and your family, Skald. I will miss you.
Mea culpa - I just heard about this thread from another Doper.
Thank you, Skald, for all you have added to the Dope and to my enjoyment of it in recent years. Whether it was a bizarre (but invariably interesting) hypothetical, or an apt observation about Tolkien, or just a silly gag, I was always glad to see your username and whatever might follow it.
Take care, be well, and if things go better than you expected and you’re able to return to the Dope after all, I assure you that no one will be happier than me.
All the best to my fellow Doper, my friend, my companion, my Skald.
Mazel tov on not being dead. I will hope for work-arounds and medical advances for reading and posting.
My friend, I am so pleased you are not dead.
Shame we still don’t have cyborg eyes available. Glad the surgery went well.
Much the same here - glad the surgery went well.
