The final Skald the Rhymer thread...until the next one [updates].

Damn, that is sad. Updates by proxy would be a great thing. One can’t help worrying.
My best wishes for your future life. May it bring as much fun to others and self as your life here.

Oh no. I’m new and a sporadic poster, but it didn’t take long to realize that your posts were always worth a read, and often a response. I wish you the best of luck with your upcoming surgery and hope most sincerely that some of your sight can be saved. I know your wife came on and updated us before when you were ill. Perhaps she’d be kind enough to let us know how your surgery comes out. I know we will all be thinking of you and pulling for you.

So long and thanks for all the fish.

Happy to hear he made it through. Sorry we have lost one of our most enteraining posters. Love and healing and maybe some flying monkeys.

Glad to hear the update. I can’t imagine how overwhelming it must feel to lose your sight right now, but people still find ways to do amazing things. Regroup, recharge, return.

Sorry to hear about your troubles Skald. You’ve been a great presence here and will be greatly missed. I wish you the very best.

I’ll miss you too.

Mrs. Rhymer, thanks for the update.

Skald - I know you’ve had health issues and I’m sorry they are continuing :(. The Zappa/Knig household

  1. wishes you only the best
  2. and will miss you like hell.

I hope you pop in occasionally and let us know how you’re doing. You’re definitely one of the Dopers I notice and remember when I’m not online.

Once again, best wishes and love to Skald, the Lady Skald, the Skaldlings, and all other Skald-loved in this world!

Well, damn. I go away for a few days, and this is what happens. Good luck to you.

So sorry I’m late seeing this.

You’ll be missed. But I do understand and respect your decision. Here’s hoping that your healing goes quickly, and you have enough time to get bored and check in now and then.

We’ll feed the monkeys until then. . .

I will miss your ridiculous threads. I’d seen you mention your vision problems once before, but I really wanted this thread to be a joke.

I think most of us will miss our resident self-proclaimed super-villain.

You know, speech recognition software is working better all the time, or you could–I know I’m stretching it–learn to touch type. (hopeful wink)

I’m so sorry, man. You will be missed. With all the hypotheticals you’ve posted over the years, sounds like you’ve made good choices where it counts. Best wishes to you.

Same from us as well!

Of all the threads you’ve ever posted, this is the one I most want to be a hypothetical.

Still, good to see you have your priorities straight, so I’ll add my best wishes to you and yours to the chorus.

I was vacationing away from the warm glow of internet access last week, and didn’t see this until just now. Now, when I did my occasional scan through IMHO looking for the latest Skald masterpiece of nonsense; that is to say, the part of this board which I’ve come to love the most.

And I find that not only is Skald gone, but that he likely won’t ever read any words of thanks and appreciation I have for all the days he’s cheered me up, or provided me with great material to steal when I try to make people think I’m more interesting or witty than I actually am.

So long, Skald, and thanks for all the pie.

So I didn’t die on the operating table, obviously. Which is not the outcome I was expecting. The doctors had said I had good odds rather than bad , but I was not feeling optimistic when I started this thread.

They’ve let me come home. I still have weeks of recuperation to go through, but the prognosis is good.

My vision still sucks. I have to increase the screen mangification to 250& to to use the computer, and tht’s about 50 percentage pints higher than last week. Both ordinary books and text messages are useless. But there may be some hope. A third retinal specialist reviewed my file and may have some more optimistic opinions about my eyes. I’ll know more next week. I’m still not hopeful. It’s a little easier emotionally to prepare for a perpetually grey world than to ope for a restoration to a crisp and colorful one. But we’ll see.

A lot of y’all sent supportive emails and PMs. Thanks for your concern. I don’t know whether I’ll ever post the way I used to, but I have been wrong before.

I miss holding a proper book in m hands and leafing through it. I would really like to immerse myself in Tolkien or Valerie Martin or Pat Conroy right now, and audiobooks just don’t do it for me.

anyway, thank you all for the kind words.

Welcome back, even if only briefly! I’m eating pie now and pretending you brought it.

Great news on the procedure. You had/have a lot of people pulling for you. Best of luck on a smooth recovery.

Glad you’re feeling better and for the potential good news re: your vision. I’d be playing the pessimistic/realist card if I were in your shoes as well - just how my mind works. But since I’m not you, I’ll think some optimistic thoughts instead :).

So glad to hear that Skald! Best wishes to you and family!
