Your thread title is a proud examplar in the fine American tradition of titling. Whenever I name a report “Final” (to distinguish it from “Draft,”) inevitably several more iterations occur, leading to the Final_Final, OkayThisReallyIstheFinal, and NotKiddingThisTimeAbsolutelyFinal versions.
I suggest you title your next thread The Post-Final Skald the Rhymer thread and continue numbering from there.

Hey, Skald. Late to the party here, as my SDMB use is intermittent and mostly lurkerish. Glad to hear you’re doing better.
I was diagnosed with a degenerative retinal disease almost 30 years ago. It’s a slowly progressing disease, so I can still see a little, and can work on a computer with minor adaptive changes. I see you are getting an adaptive workstation for the office, which is great of your boss. If your work is at all platform-agnostic, or you want something good for home, consider Macs and iOS devices. Apple, whatever you think of it overall, has an astonishingly broad commitment to accessibility. I use inverted colors, large fonts, and, occasionally, VoiceOver, all built-in (zoom tools as well, but I usually don’t use them). Their developer APIs make it trivial for application developers to add VoiceOver support, so mostly special software is not required for work (I have even tested it with code in a development environment).
I’m also fond of Audible for books–I can read large fonts on an e-reader, but it’s slow, so I like the audiobook route. Your local library may also provide access to audiobooks through Hoopla Digital.

Y’know, I’ve been tracking this thread over the weeks (between disgustingly distracting work duties and comparatively less critical causes) and I kept myself from contributing because I figured I’d seem redundant or repetitive (or both) compared to everybody else’s sympathies and well-wishes and all that.

Skald! Well, I have to thank you: that was the nicest surprise I’ve had in I don’t know how long. I’ve only sporadically peeked in on the Dope over the last few months, and missed this whole debacle when it started, so I just read the thread from start to finish, and after a brief but intense emotional roller coaster, here I am, very happy to be back and to see you not-quite-gone-just-yet.
