I wasn’t intending to log back in, but my baby sister pointed out the many responses to me and I thought eye should respond.
I know about text-to-speech and voice-to-text programs. I’ve been using one for a while now. I do not think I am resigned in the sense of going gentle into that good night though Shorty the Rhymer is apparently afraid of that. I am resigned in the sense that i an at see in a lifeboat with a hole in it, so I need to focus on bailing out water while hoping the search plain fines me in time I had been usng the Dope to distract myself, which is why I’m walking away.
Thanks to everybody who chimed in with kind words. I really appreciate it. I will assume that people who have not done so yet have either not seen the thread or are being cased by flame-spitting monkeys.

I’ve always been impressed by the creativity of your mind, coming up with interesting, unusual, and zany ideas. You have certainly affected all the regular readers on the SDMB from all over the USA and the world, but your first duty is to yourself and family. Best of luck!

That said, I have been a one-on-one personal services volunteer for the blind, reading mail, paying bills, and helping out with whatever vision tasks they needed, and I think that being your SDMB assistant, getting to type out your hypotheticals and read the responses would be just about the coolest assignment ever.
You’ll be back–somehow, some way, some day. No one leaves The Dope.

I always enjoyed the hypotheticals, even if they made me slightly jealous that I don’t have your imagination or wit. But more than that, your contributions to other threads made the Dope a great place. You have a wonderful combination of humor, insight, and empathy that will be sorely missed. Best of luck.
