The First Dopefest of the Real New Millenium

Oh, btw, as of November 30/December 1, I have officially become a “Maybe” for this gathering. I’ll be sure to keep y’all updated.

Bump and stuff.

So where are we going to do this swankfest at? C’mon people! Get it together! Otherwise we’re all meeting at my place. I do have a wet bar and lots of floor space.

Can a new guy get in on this?

No you may not attend. Only those with 5 posts or more, who are most welcome;)

Seriously, the more the merrier.
So who’s going to decide on a bar then?
Needs to be done soon, and I’m a little, shall we say, remote.

Okay, gang, don’t make this into me, Andy and Omni doing shots by ourselves while y’all are still calling each other trying to decide where to meet.

On second thought, me, Andy and Omni doesn’t sound like a bad idea. Carry on with your inability to pick a bar out of the thousands in Chicago. I’m going to go buy a very good bottle of tequila.

no quibbling here.
gimme an address and I’m there.
I’ll bring a bottle of Jäger,a bottle of champagne, and some wine if it is at a private residence.

Mmmm… champagne

I don’t care where it is - I’ll be there.

Okay, someone needs to take the reins and I thought it was porcupine. If a place, ANY place, doesn’t get named in a couple of days, I’m just going to post where I’ll be on the 6th and y’all can show up or not.

Yes, I said I’d be willing to coordinate and send out email, and asked that people who want to go send me an email. I’ve received one response. Apparently there have been problems in the past with posting the actual location of things - there were allusions to this in the last ChiDope thread, but I don’t know the history. So presumably I could make an email list of everyone whose posted to this thread, but it’s error prone and not everyone may have published their email address, and some people who haven’t posted might want to come. I’m also incredibally busy right now.

So if someone else with a little more free time on their hands wants to volunteer to coordinate, go for it.

As far as picking a place, I don’t really care where. Let someone with an opinion pick a place. I live in effing Palatine, for Christs sake. You don’t really want me picking a place, do you?

Sorry if this comes out bitchy, but I’m tired, I’ve been working way too much (late Friday, all day Saturday, all day Sunday, late Monday), I’ve had a migraine for 7 of the last 12 days including today, I haven’t even started Xmas shopping, and, as anyone who knows me is well aware, sometimes I’m just a bitch. It’s not directed at anyone in particular, it just my state of mind right now.

Sort of a bump…
Wicker Park would be fine for me. So Nymysys, go ahead and pick a bar. Anyone complains, tough. I’ll be there;)

How do you feel about Mad Bar, Andy? Or what was that other one you were talking about? The name escapes me. I also really like the Arful Dodger. Bar up front, dance floor in the back, lots of good martinis and wine. Not too shabby.

ARTFUL! The ARTFUL Dodger. <sigh>

OK, it’s Friday night and I’m tired of sitting at a computer!! I’m going out…

So far I’ve got Mad Bar and Arful Dodger;) on the list-- what’s next on the impromptu pubcrawl/recon mission?

Mad Bar-1640 Damen ok convenient to Borderline

Artful Dodger 1734 Wabansia cool but parking’s a bitch- I used to work two blocks from there
[sub]note correct apostrophe usage[/sub]

If anyone wants to come along, email me - I’ll drive [sub]so I can get home[/sub] I’ll stay online for a bit whilst cleaning the pad.

Cool, only I could kill such a popular thread!
hmmmm…I guess I’ll let the “in” people decide where to go then.

I’ve been a little bit out of the loop lately, so I’m bring this thing back up to speed.

When: January 6th, 2001
Where: To Be Decided
Who: Anyone and Everyone who enjoys socializing, and beverages.

About the where, I suggest we avoid Mad Bar. Its very loud and clubby. There is no place to talk, and people dance everywhere. This place might be ok at about 2AM when we’re wasted, but I would recommend we pick a different place to start at since we’ll want to be able to talk and maybe sit down.

I’m all for Wicker Park, I can’t recommend to many places, I usually go out in Wrigleyville and Lincoln Park. The criteria that have been nice additions in the past have been the ability to at least sit down, and a volume level that we can hope to talk over a little bit. Everything else is pretty irrelevant.

sorry that I don’t have anything realy new or inspiring to add, bu tlets hope we can make the “where” question get answered.

So far we have confirmed:

Omni-
Nym
Andy
Porc
MikeG
Maggie
Jojo

Ok, I’ve left out all the maybes. As they confirm we can add them to the list. Does anyone want to make any changes or suggestions regarding a new date/time? Neighborhood other than Wicker Park? Speak now, or forever hold your peace.

BTW, I think the “avoid using the MB” issue was a one time thing. I don’t have any trouble planning here, and unless anyone feels differently this is the closest to real time we have. An e-mail list to confirm everything is a good idea in case someone is away from the MB for a few days.

OK I’ll vote for Gunther Murphy’s on Belmont (1638 W.)
It’s loud enough to have fun but you can still have a conversation. They have a middle area with a fireplace and the best Guinness in Chicago. Plus it is centrally located so a change of venue can be easily accomodated.

There’s plenty of places in this city so lets hear some more suggestions folks!

Omni, I certainly don’t mind planning here on the board - I only mentioned it since someone brought it up in the last thread. My preference would be to start somewhere where they have food, so we can set a good base to absorb the alcohol. And someplace to park would be nice. And of course, champagne is a big plus.

MikeG, since you’ve been hanging out at Gunther Murphy’s for, what, most of your life, can you get us a some kind of mass-quantities-of-alcohol discount?

I can’t make the 6th. :frowning: :frowning: :frowning: A friend of mine invited me to a party on that day quite a while ago. Y’all drink a Guinness for me–even those of you who don’t drink Guinness. It’s good for ya; keeps ya strong and healthy.
