The first season of The Simpsons is out on DVD

I recently purchased the first season of The Simpsons on DVD. Every episode, in the order they were first broadcast. Complete. Uncut. No commercials. I have died and am in Heaven.

There is an episode titled “Bart the General” that I had never seen before. While I occasionally stumble over an episode I haven’t seen, the content makes me wonder if it was left out of syndication.

The special features were disappointing. I was hoping all the original shorts from the Tracy Ullman Show would be included, but only one was. I would have liked to see more “outtakes” and working scripts too. Maybe in the subsequent releases.

But what a magical set. Woohoo!

Yes, the first season came out in September. A very enjoyable package, particularly watching them with the commentary on, but I too was disappointed there wasn’t more included.
Season 2 is scheduled to be released on July 9th. Does anyone know if they will only be releasing one season per year? I don’t think I can stand the wait.

July 9? I heard June 7 (The same day they are releasing Season 2 of Buffy:TVS.)

I read somewhere that there’d be two per year. I had also read that season 2 would be out by last Christmas though so who knows.

Reel.com says season 2 is due out on July 9. Amazon says July 23. Of course, earlier is better, since I have pre-ordered it. Like Slacker, I had heard that season 2 was supposed to be released before the last holiday consumption season.

The release date keeps getting pushed back. Current estimate: July 23.

I can’t wait for it to come out either. Now we play the waiting game…

The waiting game sucks. Let’s play Hungry Hungry Hippos.
(At least we still get other good TV shows in between. Hopefully tomorrow, I’ll be boldly going where no one has gone before with Picard and his crew…)

No, it wasn’t – I saw it not that long ago. It’s one of the classics of the first season.

It does seem, though, that a lot of stations that show syndicated episodes don’t show the earlier eps very often…maybe that’s why you haven’t seen it?
