When the entire team was celebrating, in Chez West no less, with some five minutes left to go in the episode and this not even the season finale, I knew something was up. I just didn’t expect it to be so heartbreaking. New rule for the show: Never celebrate a major victory, or else someone is going to get a hand through the heart.
The Siren Call effect was much cooler here than the Canary Cry. Much more effective, too, as it could bring down entire buildings.
Dr Tina McGee meeting Dr Henry Allen for the first time was a nice easter egg.
Caitlin’s PTSD-induced flashbacks of Zoom were almost terrifying a Zoom himself.
Funniest moment was Cisco repeating Reverb’s Darth Vader speech to Black Siren. That whole sequence with Cisco and Caitlin playing “Reverb” and “Killer Frost” was comedy gold.
I’m about to give up on this show. The bad guy holds an innocent family member hostage and, rather than try to fight, Flash just sits there and lets him kill him. So lame my eyes wanted to roll out of my head.
I enjoyed this ep so much more than the AoS finale. The team made credible progress against Zoom and his meta-humans within the construct of the show, we got some insight into Wally’s motivations for the future, and we got some foreshadowing about Jessie’s future abilities.
The thing with Henry, though, was clearly telegraphed. I started the episode thinking Shipp was going to be a cast regular next season and within minutes I was like “Uh-oh.” Too many cast interactions mentioned him being around, played up his value, and then they brought in McGee and it couldn’t have been more obvious if they had a short goth girl wearing an ankh, black tank and jeans, and Doc Martens in the background (which would actually be a cool Easter egg for the DCU).
It seems like with the way Cisco was so worried that Caitlyn would turn into her Earth-2 counterpart in the past, he wouldn’t like her dressing up as Killer Frost, for fear it might trigger a transformation to her dark side.
Cisco’s actually the star of the show. He keeps upstaging Wells and coming up with the miracle invention.
Also, the whole huge buildup to the season finale has been Barry trying to get fast enough to finally beat this guy, right? Going back in time to learn a better running technique. Visiting the speed-force realm and gaining confidence. And so on.
Imagine you’re preparing to race against me, and I run away, and you run after me, and I run down street after street, and you run down those same streets in hot pursuit; I dash into a house, you rush in after me. Which of us is faster? Well, maybe it’s me, but maybe it’s you; I don’t know. I mean, I knew where I was going, and you were playing catch-up. We might be evenly matched.
Wait, we did all that while I was lugging around some broad-shouldered dude who stands maybe six feet tall? Yeah, you’re not in my league.
Well, maybe by the laws of comic book physics the extra mass is trivial to a speedster. Comic books tend to conflate strength and mass (how come Superman or the Hulk can toss something that’s clearly much heavier than they are and not be thrown backwards in the process?), so maybe it’s similar with the speed force.
But in any case, Barry’s strategy makes no sense. Zoom kidnaps Wally, and Barry agrees to give up his speed. Zoom threatens Barry’s dad, and Barry offers to let Zoom kill him instead. Apparently Zoom can beat Barry any time he wants just by grabbing someone Barry cares about.
Maybe everybody thinking that being “one” with the Speed Force gave Barry a false sense of invincibilty was right.
As we were watching this, I kept saying to my husband that Cisco needs to step up his “Vibe” powers to be used aggressively, so I kind of saw it coming when he knocked down Black Siren. He needs to work on that, so that the next time a villain shows up at Star Labs, he can surprise them.
Oh, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the Lances found out about Laurel’s doppelganger next season.
Were Wally and Jessie hit by lightning in addition to the dark matter? If so, the missing variable is the chemicals. Wouldn’t be surprised if Wally was splashed by them at some point and then became a speedster.
It looked to me that they were hit by Barry’s energy signature, after he was ‘dissipated’ by the speed force, which would contain the chemicals, dark matter and lightning already in it and not just pure dark matter.
I guess Wally and Jessie (who already has/had velocity 9 (?) in her system) needs a trigger of some sort.
That was kinda funny. It was inevitable Cisco would get more powers, but who’s going to invent all the cool stuff while Cisco is bumbling around trying to be a superhero?
Black Siren figured out Cisco wasn’t Reverb because of the “mirror image” handedness. But there are other universes, and many (if not all) contain doppelgangers. There’s left, right, ambidextrous (I guess)…what else?
I’m also getting fed up with the instant offers of self-sacrifice instead of, say, coming up with a plan to just kill Zoom since it’s clearly been fully justifiable for quite some time.
Also, why are you bothering to run up to a metahuman of unknown abilities, then stopping to chat with her for a few minutes? Can’t you punch her in the face a few dozen times instead and sort it out later?
