The ninth and final season of The Flash premieres Wednesday, Feb 9. After the shambles of the previous two seasons, will the show go out with a bang? What kind of cameos can we expect? Speaking of cameos, can the last surviving Arrowverse show give the Legends of Tomorrow some closure?
S09E01 Wednesday Ever After
SEASON PREMIERE - Barry creates a map book to guide him and Iris throughout their future in order to keep her safe, but the results are not what he expected, and instead, they relive the same day over and over again. Joe has a heart-to-heart with Cecile. A new big bad is introduced to Team Flash and friends and foes, old and new, begin to descend upon Central City.
I wonder if the original intention was to premiere the episode on Feb 1, but it got pushed back for some reason.
For a moment, I thought the big bad was going to be Reverse Flash (again!), but it turns out it will be Batman – or rather Batwoman – related. There was even a hint of the Batwoman theme. I guess they’re going to try to resolve some of the Batwoman loose ends here. (How about the giant loose end from Legends?)
NEW KID IN TOWN - Barry feels guilty for what happened to Caitlin and Mark comes up with a plan which makes everyone skeptical. Meanwhile, Red Death looms in Central City and commands that failure is not an option. Joe asks Cecile to make a choice which leads Cecile to think about the greater good. Allegra and Chester take a step in a new direction. Lastly, old friends pay an unexpected visit to S.T.A.R. Labs.
I had stopped watching a few seasons ago (I think Iris was still in a mirror to give some context) would I be crazy to jump in now to just see how this ends or should I go back and try to catch up?
I didn’t expect to see Hartley ever again, after he wandered off in the aftermath of one of Barry’s many timeline fuckups. Though it makes thematic sense for Pied Piper to engage in a sonic battle against the Fiddler.
As for Caitlin’s demise, could they at least do a proper send off for her rather than, you know, go dancing with the new girl at Hartley’s club? It’s like the writers (I’m looking at you Eric Wallace) didn’t know how to resolve Caitlin’s dilemma from last season and so just invented a new character.
The past couple of seasons were pretty forgettable. I’d just jump in to this one.
