The future is now. Nike to unveil Back to the Future shoes?

Great Scott! Do you remember those power shoes that Marty McFly wore in Back to the Future II in the year 2015? According to CNET.com’s Justin Yu, Nike’s senior designer, Tinker Hatfield has issued an invitation for the unveiling of the Air Mag 2015 shoes for tomorrow, September 8, 2011. As shown in the movie, the lights will indeed have battery-powered lights and a power self lacing system. If this is indeed true, the future will arrive four years early. Now, where’s my flying car conversion?

Teaser video.

This appears to have no relation to the young inventor who created her own.

Any word on whether they’ll also create a self-drying jacket to go with it?

Can hardly wait. Sign me up for the wrap-arounds and the shoes, please.

Did Nike get impatient?

Surely this would have been even bigger if they just waited until 2015.

Still awesome, though.

Not everything we use in 2011 was invented in 2011. In fact very little is.

How’s Mattel coming on the hoverboard?!

What happens if Adidias debuts a self-tying shoe that lights up in 2012?

It could have catastrophic consequences on the space-time continuum!

That’s a worst-case scenario; the destruction might in fact be very localized, limited to merely our own galaxy.

Are they made from the skin of puppies that Michael Vick personally stomped on?

Well, that’s a relief.

You’re seriously off-topic here. If you want to talk about Michael Vick, start a new thread in the Pit, the Game Room, or GD as appropriate.

Heavy.

Gravity Problems?

Well, that does depend. Was his college career documented in the Grays Sports Almanac 1950—2000?

(wink)

Oh man, I hope they make enough of these so they don’t sell out in one day.

Looks like they may not actually have Power Laces.

Gah! But that was it’s coolest feature. Back to the Designing Board.

At least the sales take advantage of a Google matching grant for the Michael J. Fox Foundation (up to $50 mil).

Is this close enough?
