Snopes is asking for money to keep the website up. I assume if they have to relocate, that these forums will go, too?

Yeah, the Straight Dope and Snopes have no relationship, beyond being allies in the fight against ignorance.
That said, changing hosts isn’t a big deal any more. These very boards have changed hosts multiple times, and I think that the worst impact was in having to take them down for a day or two. If you happened not to be on in that time, you’d never even have noticed.
I don’t see a connection between Snopes’s troubles and the SDMB.

Snopes has its own message boards, and just a little history. . . .
Eons ago, a former mod was banned from the SDMB. This infuriated a number of people who said they were leaving SDMB, who then decided to go to the snopes boards.
The reception there was cool, to say the least. More like, ‘Well, there goes the neighborhood.’ Didn’t last long, as they saw they weren’t particularly welcome, and the snopes regulars were an even more insular group than the SDMB AOLers who thought that their ‘vibrant community’ had been lost when SDMB went off AOL, and anyone could join.
