The glory of the Donald

It’s so cute when the Trumpists talk about balancing the budget.
Trump has said he will pay trillions more on defense and infrastructure while cutting taxes. So-less money coming in and much more going out. Yep-sounds like the deficit will be gone in no time. It’s like when they say that raising tariffs on foreign imports will help businesses here and don’t realize that when we junk all our trade deals and raise tariffs, then sure foreign products will get more expensive, but American manufacturers can then raise their prices to just under what the foreign ones cost and the American consumer will have no choice except to pay the higher prices. Meanwhile, there is nothing to prevent other countries from raising tariffs on US exports, so there goes that magical trade deficit fix.But hey, we all know that increasing the national debt by giving more money to corporations is a sure way to fix the economy since it’s worked so well…never!

Also, didn’t the Republicans used to be the party of free trade? Is there even a party of free trade anymore?

But Clothahump is confident the national debt won’t go up 50% in Trump’s four years, or at least he doesn’t expect it to happen.
Who you gonna believe, Clothahump or arithmetic? Arithmetic is for kids and it’s way old… would *you *trust something old that hung around with kids? What are you, some kinda perv-helper?

Trump’s foreign policy adviser Walid Phares says that Trump will not tear up the Iran deal, despite his campaign promises.

Not really. The Pubbies were very clever, they gerrymandered with precision, to gain a small but reliable advantage in close districts. That’s smart, but fragile. They have a weakness, its located directly on top of their neck.

They used to be the party of standing up to Russia, too. And for the last eight years any time the president spent away from D.C. was proof he was goofing off, now Trump says he wants to split his time between Washington and New York City. Has anyone asked how much it will cost to secure Trump Tower to presidential standards (will they use government funds to upgrade a private commercial property) and how much it will disrupt the city every time he comes and goes?

Don’t forget the cost of AF One. Twice every weekend at least.

To be fair, whoever the president is, the Secret Service will secure the president’s existing residence. Sometimes, like with GWB and his big ranch, that’s not as difficult as securing a penthouse apartment in Manhattan. But if the expense is the concern, then people should have elected Hillary Clinton, since her Chappaqua residence had already been secured by the Secret Service.

And as for that, I don’t think they use Air Force One for trips between Washington and NYC.

What would they use?
Unless there’s a second armored limo and chase cars in NY, those need to be transported. That’s a second plane right there.

Yes, but that’s why I said commercial property. Trump Tower is mixed use; will Trump get to collect higher rents because of improvements that are paid for by the government? Will Trump’s business benefit in other ways, like getting extra communications infrastructure or capital improvements beyond those needed for security? Trump has said he’s putting his business in a blind trust to be run by some of his children[sup]*[/sup], so why does he even need to be at the headquarters of his old business?

  • That’s not what a blind trust is.

I think the distance between Washington and Manhattan is well within the range of the presidential helicopter and I believe there is more than one presidential limousine, so they could leave one in New York for his use there. Perhaps they already do that, for UN visits?

AF One is typically accompanied by fighters. Gunships?

The new Marine One has a range of 350. It’s about 225 NYC/WashDC.

That article is out of date; it says Marine One is the Lockheed Martin VH-71 Kestrel, but that contract was cancelled and they’re going with a Sikorsky helicopter instead.

As a die-hard ALF fan … I’m please to look upon our new President and fondly remember what a sweet orange fuzzy alien can do to brighten one’s day … Cat-Person

Didn’t notice the date.:smack::smack::smack::smack:

Amtrak.

The Prez can hail a cab easy at Penn Station and from there it’s less than a ten-buck fare to Trump Tower, assuming he doesn’t tip, and I don’t think he tips.

Do they have first-class accommodations on Amtrak? How about ruling-class?

Given that Republicans only have to defend 8 Senate seats that year and Democrats have to defend 23, that’s doubtful, especially given that 5 of those Democratic Senate seats are in red states.

Why not take advantage of stupid policy?
