The guy sitting behind me at work has never seen "the matrix".

Talk about damning with faint praise!

I saw the flick in the theater. I thought it was pretty good, a few gaping plot holes aside. But I really don’t understand the people who went so totally nuts over it.

I haven’t seen The Matrix yet either.

Oh, and nineiron, don’t bother with GOne With the Wind, it’s a four-hour bore. Rhett should have dumped Scarlett the first time around and been done with it.

Come on, RealityChuck, Scumpup, you simply must see Fightclub. I always thought it was a stupid movie, too, until I accidentally caught a glimpse of the beginning when zapping on the telly, then kept watching till the very end. A great movie it is.

Fight Club is a good movie based around a stupid (IMHO) concept. Y’all should see it.

I tried to watch The Matrix because everyone else seemed to think it was the greatest thing since sliced bread, but I only lasted about 15 minutes. It was painfully bad.

This differs from Fight Club in that I was able to watch that whole movie, but ended up wishing I’d only watched 15 minutes.

I was quickly scrolling down to say that RealityChuck and Scumpup should watch Fight Club but TTT and Super Gnat already took care of it. It’s definitely worth seeing. And if you watch it and feel like it wasn’t worth your time, I’ll send you a dollar.

Just curious, what movies have you watched past 15 minutes that weren’t painfully bad?

I don’t get the idea behind bragging about not seeing movies. I can understand simply not seeing popular movies, because they’re outside your interests, or you never got around to it, or whatever: there are hundreds of movies that “everyone” has seen that I haven’t. And no, I’m not going to list any of them, because I’m embarassed about it. There’s no pride in not having seen Casablanca [sub]damn, that one slipped out[/sub], and there’s no pride in not having seen The Matrix. Not that the two are necessarily comparable: The Matrix wasn’t all that great, but at least watch it before you decide that it’s stupid.

I’ve never seen The Matrix. Or Fight Club or Pulp Fiction.

Ditto for most of the James Bond movies, most of the Star Trek movies, Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Terms of Endearment and Citizen Kane.

I have seen Gone With The Wind, Lord of the Rings (the first one) and Titanic, though.

Oh no, it’s the end of the world!!!

Count me in with the Matrix was a really, really, really dumb movie with beautiful explosions crowd. (It belongs in the “why don’t they just… comic book thread”. They can change reality with their minds, so why don’t use use something better than as many bullets as possible?)

But I hate almost all movies that are supposedly science fiction. They’re the literature of ideas turned into the cinema of mindless dreck. So there are large numbers of popular sf movies that I’ve never seen. (I spent almost two whole minutes at a screening of Starship Troopers once, though. That should count for a whole lifetime.)

I’ve never seen The Birds. I know, I know, it’s supposed to be a masterpiece, etc. But scary movies are bad! Lol

Oh yea, and I just have to say two things. One, Schindler’s List is one of the most amazing movies I’ve ever seen. It made me cry as much as It’s A Wonderful Life did (World War 2 really interests me). And two, RealityChuck, The Sixth Sense is more of a psychological thing (wouldn’t call it a thriller, but close) than a horror. No real graphic scenes or anything.

 geek who hasn’t seen the matrix? WE ALL HAVE SEEN IT!! How could he not have?

I’ve never seen *The Matrix, Pearl Harbor, Saving Private Ryan, Blacjhaen Down, ET, Fight Club, Fast and Furious, Gone With The Wind, * and 2001: A Space Oddesy.

I hate war movies, and The Matrix, Fight Club, and Gone With the Wind don’t interest me. The only one I may actually watch is 2001[.

Huh? I’ve read this several times and still don’t understand it. You want a list of my favorite movies or something? Or are you saying that if I hated both The Matrix and Fight Club, I must not like anything? I’m confused.

See, I can deal with movies that do away with the plot and substitute humor instead (e.g. most Adam Sandler flicks), but watching a film just to see crap exploding and Keanu Reeves dodging bullets isn’t my cup of tea.

Simple. He’s not really a geek; he’s an auditor, sent down from corporate to go undercover and root out corruption in the form of idle chit-chat around the water cooler during time that SHOULD BE used for productive activities.

Unfortunately for him you have located the flaw in his disguise, and have compromised his mission. Now the least you can do is get back to work.

No, I guess I was curious about what you did like, but I did a crappy job of asking. Sorry about that. The second part of your post cleared it up. Thx.

Is The Matrix really a geek movie? Most geeks I know take the “it’s entertaining if you turn off your brain” position on this movie.

It’s a kung fu movie in a sci-fi setting. This would tend to qualify it as a “geek movie”.

I have high standards and I enjoyed it quite a bit. Some other geeks have differing opinions. This isn’t terribly unusual. The Keanu factor alone is enough to turn some people off.

I’ve surprised people by telling them I’ve never seen E.T.. It just doesn’t interest me and I’ve been forced to watch it at a friend’s house or in school or anything like that.

I’ve only seen the last part of Dirty Dancing because my roommate had it on in the living room.

Haley Joel Osmont’s performance in the previews killed any desire I might have had to see The Sixth Sense, and I didn’t warm up to the portions I saw on TV later. I was kinda interested in Signs but not even Joachim Phoenix’s presence could entice me into the theater or Blockbuster.

I’ve never seen Schindler’s List, and can’t really explain why. The old “I’m not going to rent a movie just to get depressed” only goes so far, since I had no trouble subjecting a friend and myself to One Day in September and I’ve been meaning to rent Paragraph 175.
