The Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Countdown Thread

Already have one of the last midnight tickets in town – at one of my favorite theaters, no less. Have requested vacation for Wednesday so I can sleep in (and get my car fixed and some other errands, but it’s mainly for Harry).

But – no…

Gaunts? I guess I understand the reason, but Merope’s behavior really makes a good counterpoint to the loneliness of the half-wizard kids and the general ecchiness of a lot of the ‘pure’ families and… well, really there was a lot in that bit, it’s a shame they’re losing it. However, the scene they showed on the IGN page to ‘replace’ it. Woah.

Me too, and also after. “It unscrews the other way.” Also Flitwick’s fencing off of the tiny bit of leftover swamp, just because it was a nice bit of magic.

Yeah, I was disappointed about the swamp too. But I really thought removing Peeves altered the departure scene too much.

True, true, but since they never included Peeves in any of the other films, his sudden arrival would have been jarring.
Who is the woman with Lupin in the Burrow when Belatrix arrives (in one of the film clips). Is it supposed to be Tonks? It doesn’t look like the same actress.

IMO, it was stupid to not include the Dursley’s–they’ll have to include them at some point again–they’re integral to book 7. Lose Hagrid already–the giants and their kin are a dead end plot point.

It looks good.

We got myspace black curtain tickets for a screening last night.
153 minutes. My bum was numb.
No spoilers, I’ll let you all enjoy the experience.
I really, really liked it. The actors have really grown up.
There were no post-credit blips that we saw and we remained until the house lights came up.
We did get a short intro from the 3 main characters saying that they were disappointed that they couldn’t be there with us to enjoy the movie.
That’s probably part of the early / pre-release screenings and was nothing special.

Yes, it’s Natalie Tena. Remember, Tonks is in her mouse-brown depresso-phase. I’m surprised and pleased they actually include this detail, and that they’re apparently including this subplot. Spoiler for preview clip:

She’s the one crying “Remus!” when Lupin dashes out after Harry/Bellatrix. (Of course the two experienced wizards are held back by the fire, but Harry and Ginny aren’t, heh.)

Damn too late for editing but now that I’ve seen the whole clip:

I’m freakin’ getting chills at the thought that Ginny, Harry, Tonks and especially Remus are getting thisclose to Fenrir! Always wanted a Lupin/Fenrir confrontation – sooo disappointed we never got one in DH, what a rip! Doubt we’ll get one here, but it’s still nice to see this foursome together.

Wait, the Dursleys aren’t it? One of the trailers has a clip of Vernon talking to Harry and Dumbledore. Don’t remember seeing Petunia or Dudley, though. Did their scenes get cut?

Actually this isn’t right. After doing some reading on IMDB I realized the scene I thought contained Vernon was actually Slughorn. When he says “These are mad times we live in! Mad!” Too bad. I like seeing the Dursleys although for this movie they’re not really needed much. They apparently will be back in Deathly Hallows.

Which means the scriptwriters will need to dance like mad to get all of Lily’s and Petunia’s backstory (and Snape’s) in so that the WHOLE thing makes sense. And to think that a touch here or there would have built the whole story nicely so that they didn’t have to do that.

I cannot wait.

I am kid-free right now and trying to decide if I should go to the midnight showing with my friends teenager and her friends or just go tomorrow at a regularly scheduled time
I will be seeing it again with my kids when they get out of camp.

I hope when the series is complete, that there is a DVD of all the deleted scenes.

I’m going to go tomorrow at a normal time, once i figure out what normal time is least likely to be overwhelmed with kids (my SO and I are very flexible with timing). Any thoughts?

Man, I love the scene with Dumbledore and the Dursleys in this book. The glasses bonking them in the heads over and over again…the line about how accidental rudeness happens all the time…great stuff. Sad I won’t see it.

Going on Monday afternoon with my nephew.

Already told him we’ll go again in a couple of weeks when the extended Imax version comes out.

Would have loved to see it with Richard Harris . . . I just imagine him delivering Dumbledore’s lines in every movie after #2. :frowning:

Extended?

There was a report that said that there would be an extra 12 minutes of footage in the Imax version that came out two weeks after the theatrical release. But now I see a different report saying that it’s not new footage, just 12 minutes in 3D, which I could not care less about.

I am home to take a short nap before the party starts and then… the movie! I got tomorrow off, thank goodness.

#2 son is watching HP 5 to “prep” for the show later.

I CAN’T WAIT!!! (just rewatched OOTP with my fiancee and we’re pumped! Seeing it Thursday!
