The Heat Is On - A Heat Wave MMP

I’ve been known to use mine to retrieve socks and drawers from the bottom of the washer.

Well, little hunks are off my back. I’ll have to have Sis take the bandaids off. I was impressed. I got to my 1400 appointment about 10 minutes early and by 1415, I was walking out the door.

Sis picked up the printer and told me I really got a deal, since it looked brand new and even still had the advertising crap on the scanner bed. Not so lucky with the desktop. The seller solid it out from under m, so I’m back to looking. BIL’s buddy Eduardo may be able to help me out with that one, as well as finding someone to take a look at the old one.

Priced at $9.99 they would’ve flown offa the shelves.

And a good early evening. Was at the gym for a couple of hours, between the treadmills and stationary bikes I sweated off 1,400 calories (at least according to the machine calculators) And celebrated by adding 1,300 back on at Culvers with a Double Butterburger and fries. Nothing much else planned for the day, snacking on a couple cups of chocolate pudding (no sugar, 70 calories per cup) and a cup of applesauce, so some goodies for dessert. Still 84 ferret-heights outside so no big rush to get back out there.

FCM, I admire your yardwork in the heat, mowage is more than enough for me. And I saw this on my “WTH” web page that it starts with: Tick bites drive record ER surge, CDC says. Maps show where so you are not alone.

And the power just dimmed here for a few seconds, probably adjusting for the AC load they are bearing. Hope it isn’t any more than that…

Nut, hope you can make it to the tip.

Cookie, glad you are cooled off, please send some of it down south when you can. And I had to look up Wayzata, never heard that name before, sounds like a nice place.

Where the heck do you live?

Coppertone, take it easy and don’t rush things, but fingers crossed that it works according to plan.

nellie, good on ya following instructions and being creative at the same time. And shrewd choice in Actors, Cumberbatch could pull it off, I bet…

It’s from a bakery called Lewis, they specialize in 1/2 loaves with a variety of breads, maybe not A+ but still pretty good. Ended up with one loaf of Arnold Rye Bread and one of Pepperidge Farms, both are in the freezer until they are needed.

VanGo, so, 90 7-8 year olds…heaven help you and your colleagues. I think I would prefer the skunky-smelling dog.

red, sorry the deal for the desktop didn’t go through. Better luck in the near future.

And that’s all for now. We’ll see if anything exciting happens in the next 3-4 hours and it if doesn’t, I’ll still report that here.

Good evening! Squeaky, Mrs Magill, and I went to the final meeting for his trip to France, which leaves next week. We seem to have all our ducks in a row.

Dinner was Swedish Pancakes with fresh strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries. Squeaky sang Rankin Bass Christmas songs while doing the dishes.

Nothing left to do today, but to do some reading.

Up from naptime, having an Old Fashioned, cheeseburger, fries, and corn on the cob.

Maggie Wonderbeagle would go out in 90+ degree weather, and have a lie down on the asphalt parking lot.

That pretty much is the Cliff Notes version of The Battle of Hastings.

Good evening everyone, it was also hot here today. It was up to 93 F and will be that hot again tomorrow, but we should be getting rain for the rest of the week to help keep the humidity high.

Our plan is to go to the big mine museum in Beckley. It is mostly underground and the webpage advises bringing a jacket so it sounds like a good way to beat the heat. We should be home by kitty dinner time which is very important!

The class I signed up for is going to be starting late which really sucks. My surgery is at the end of June and I might not be able to keep up if the delays keep happening. (The instructor is having problems finding canvas, the trump tax has really hurt the small shops and designers.)

I’m prepping for those dreaded six weeks in a sling, I’ve got almost a full freezer shelf of cooked main dishes for me and now I need to start of things for him to eat. Thank goodness beans freeze so well, he’s kinda scared to eat beef anymore. Pork is iffy as well.

Or King Lear.

Pity me–I am approaching the 4th of at least 6 weeks in which I am forbidden to have a bath.

Daughter is here. We got caught up. She shook her head over the Q-Tip anecdote. You’d think she’d be used to her, um, offbeat mama by now.

I got mad at the big box store because my patio chair was supposed to be delivered today, but the driver said he couldn’t get access. There’s a big sign at the gate directing delivery trucks to push that button for access, but apparently he couldn’t read. So the items are on the way back to the store 38 miles away.

Daughter suggested a medicinal cocktail, and even though it’s not Sunday, I agreed. We had–Hey, doggio!–Harvey Wallbangers because she’d never had one. Then we walked Charlie. His person said he had a crummy tummy, but he chomped down several dog buiscuits and had a lot of water. He did get tired by the end, but so did I. I made it the whole way. Yay! I’m getting better.

Oh, Lily, that must be awful! You have my sympathy. So you’re halfway through?

I’m still chuckling 3 minutes after reading this.

I thought so! In their commercial, someone walked by flowers, which wilted.

red, glad the appointment was swift.

MetalMouse, I wish I could get 1/2 loaves. That’s so smart!

Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition Valium.

FCM, glad you got the tick before it got you.

Are sponge baths okay, or showers? While not a good soak,at least you won’t feel grimy.

How is she? Is she still getting shit from soon to be ex?

Not that it matters, but this internet stranger thinks about her often and hopes she’s doing well.

Oh, and the Q-tip is why I have yard sticks and masking tape on every floor.

More or less. I’ll get updated instructions at around 6 weeks.

Yes, showers are fine, but not at all what actually relaxes me.

I do sympathize, I know you enjoy bathing daily. I know this won’t compare, but I won’t be able to actually smoke da bud without two working arms. One hand to hold pipe, the other to use the lighter. I only need one hand to vape, but I LIKE the taste that comes with burning vegetable matter.

Can hubs light for you?

Late night final. As expected I have done nothing useful since my last posting, but some You Tube vids have been watched and I paid down my Visa card a day early, so there is that. Off to bed shortly, 15-16 hour days without nappage encourages a reasonable bedtime.

Mollie, best wishes to Squeaky and his trip.

My first thought too. GMTA I guess…

JtC, caves were always nice to visit on hot days, but the closest one to me is about an hour’s drive. So I just manage with the AC. Sounds like preparations for the big operation are going well.

:scream: Are showers allowed, or only sponge baths? And I see you’ve answered that, I haven’t had a real bath in quite awhile, but a hot shower at the back of my neck works pretty well for me.

And off to Slumberland. Catch y’all on 2sDay.

nellie, sorry about the chair not delivering, hopefully a not-so-dumb driver will be on the route tomorrow. And the Lewis bread isn’t advertised as half-loafs, but they are that size (for plain white bread I get Bunny Bread 1/2 Loaf).

Hi, all! Frumious here. Today was Izzy’s last day at school. Mr. Rilch and I collected her and a friend at the school, took them for a late lunch, then went to see the Wheeling Nailers play Game 7 against the Maine Mariners. Nailers won, so they’re going to the conference finals!

Izzy and her friend are downstairs playing some video game. One thing I’m glad about is that she was able to have a social life, but without getting so involved that it would be hard to leave. And I know Mr. Rilch and I have been caring and supportive the whole way through.

The facilitator, or whatever the woman who set this up is called, told us about two hosting situations this year (not the same school or town as ours) that went badly. One was a European boy who apparently sold everyone here and back home a whole bill of goods about how studious and responsible he was. Then as soon as he unpacked, it was “So where are the parties? And the girls? And the girls who party?” Well, that was on him, but in the other case, the host family was the problem. Their student was an Asian girl, and they took it as a personal insult that she never made eye contact. It became such an issue that she moved in with another family that was already hosting a girl. So yeah, we didn’t have any friction like that.

I’m still not sure when she’s leaving the country, but I know it’s in June. I’m trying not to think about what that’s going to be like.

Anyway, Cookie, sorry to hear about the tomatoes. FCM, Mr. Rilch had a tick glom onto the back of his knee a few days ago. He was sure it was a wood tick, so he went to urgent care and got doxycycline. Think you’re okay – just asking?

Morning. It’s very wet today; not ideal, as I have to walk up a couple of streets to the uni, but oh well. It has been a pretty dry spring here, just light showers for the last month, so it’s probably a good thing.

Hopefully I can empty the car at the other tip in town post invigilating, but it depends, as that tip not only shuts even earlier, it closes for lunch as well. And at weekends.

I have made the decision that Wednesday afternoon skiving will happen, so I can always do it then. I’m going to borrow a pressure washer off my former landlady, who lives near the garden, and that’s the only day she’s around this week.

Anyway, I need to head out into the murk and get rained on.

Frumious, I only went on a 2 week German language exchange with school, but weirdly, we had a student from Birmingham- the one in England- who joined on the German side, as they moved over a couple of years earlier. She clearly didn’t need to learn English, being a native speaker, and apparently just partied for 2 weeks straight and reputedly narrowly dodged getting arrested at one point. No idea why her parents signed her up for it… I actually spent a week staying with her family there as my own exchange partner family went on holiday mid-way through the visit.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s currently 71 degrees Ferret Height out(21.667 Centipedes) out. They did not get to painting the building yesterday, so I guess Today or Wednesday.
Me: < post one of my cartoon on FB artists page in response to ‘No AI’ rule >
Comment: “It’s ok, you can use AI, you got the pass”

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 13c/56f with a predicted high of 16c/60f and cloudy. Weather app says “Don’t you just fucking love the greyness of fucking everything?”

Thank you, I’m pleased to say that I was in the office stupidly early but everything went fine on the day! More exams on Thursday, then a short break before the last one on 2nd June (that’s the special one for our Extremely Difficult Student).

Swampy that sounds like a pretty big storm, I’m glad the outdoor furniture survived the experience and the umbrella has a safe place to hide.

Oddly enough, we call them invigilators, but we also refer to “proctored exams”. Yeah, English folks is weird.

Ours have done the same thing, they’re open 8am-4pm every day of the week. Yeah…so I either have to sneak out during a work day, or be at the gates at opening time otherwise the queues are massive.

Well done to you! And it sounds like you’re doing pretty well with the “no-bending” rules too.

A happy doggie hour? I hope Ms Peach likes that idea better, perhaps she was a bit overwhelmed with so many companions.

It sounds like she’s had a really good time, and you’re bound to miss having her around. You’ve given hre an amazing experience of life in another country though, can’t put a price on that.

Yesterday was tiring but good, all the exams went off ok although we did get a student query that came via one of the academics, but it was half an hour after the student sent it so far too late for us to be of any help. I suspect that the issues resolved itself because the student was in the right place but apparently confused as there were other students there who were taking different exams. It’s a venue for students entitled to extra time so it would be a mix of students but apparently she thought it would only be the ones taking the same module as her. We didn’t hear back from her, so will find out today if her exam paper comes back with the others. For morning exams, we get the papers from the main venues back on the same day, and the alternative venues come back the day after.

I got home without too much bother, did my evening chores, tended to the needs of cats, gathered up the rubbish and hauled the biiiiiig bin out to the kerb for today’s collection. Then we had leftover chilli for dinner, and strolled round to the pub for a while, to celebrate ‘im indoors’ birthday.

Today I am on campus to deal with the next round of incoming exam papers so that the person marking them can come and collect them. I’ve got two meetings this morning but hopefully they won’t be too tedious. I need more tea now though!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 67 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 89 and mostly sunny. It’s laundry day (the thrill of it all!) and also the day I said I would accomplish mowage. However, my haid is all stuffded up for some reason, so mowage may not happen. I’ll see what it feels like in a couple of hours. Sup will be BLTs and oven fries due to a gnawin’ and a cravin’ for BLTs.

Frumious is it hard to believe it’s been a whole year? I am glad this has been such a positive experience for Izzy and y’all. Sad about the other students, but I guess that’s how it all works out.

Lily hope you are able to have a proper tub soak soonest. I know you miss that.

JtC looks like you are gettin’ a handle on the surgery prep. Enjoy the cave. That sounds to me like a fun trip.

Mollie I am sure Squeaky is gettin’ all excitated about goin’ to France.

BooFae glad the exams are goin’ relatively well.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, well I guess we will see what happens. Rah.

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

ETA: It’s also primary election day here in Jawja. We voted early, but to any Jawja folk who read this, please go vote if you haven’t already.

ETA again:

And now this…

< AHEM > CLEARIN’ THROAT < AHEM >

HAAAPPPYYY BIIIRRRTTTHHHDDDAAAYYY TOOOOOO YOUUUUUU!!!
HAAAPPPYYY BIIIRRRTTTHHHDDDAAAYYY TOOOOOO YOUUUUUU!!!
HAAAPPPYYY BIIIRRRTTTHHHDDDAAAYYY DEEEAAARRRTTTAAATTTEEERRRSSS!!!
HAAAPPPYYY BIIIRRRTTTHHHDDDAAAYYY TOOOOOO YOUUUUUU!!!

I’m pretty sure it didn’t slow down enough to bite and it wasn’t all bloated with blood. But next time I go out, I will use the tick repellent.

That can be a tough as finding a good auto mechanic. We got lucky with a local biz when they were starting out. We haven’t needed them a lot but it’s good to know we’ve got a trustworthy, reliable source of tech support.

That worked pretty well for me yesterday, tho I’m almost a true redneck - as in my neck got a good bit of sun. My neck-protecting hat is on the boat, dammit.

Both Roxy and Tobias had ticks picked off them last time they were here, as did Daughter. I have 2 cans of tick repellent - I need to move them to be at hand. I hates ticks, I do!!!

I need to get my weather info from you - we’re 12-24 hours offset! Our rain is due overnight Weds, with an accompanying temperature drop.

From the pics I’ve seen on line, I know it wasn’t a deer tick. My only concern is whether I picked it up myself or if Otis brought it in. He takes flea and tick meds every month but maybe he needs a supplement? Must cogitate on that. Meanwhile, I still feel like something’s crawling on me. ICK!

Face it, the English language is weird, especially when you consider all the variants. I gotta say, I’ve got the greatest admiration for anyone learning it as a second language.

Today has started with 70 Ferrets heading to 95 or more, dammit. I think I’ll be transplanting today rather than hauling gravel, since that kicked my butt yesterday. I’d like to get plants moved before the rain of the next few days sets in. And in most cases, the move will be about 15’. We’ll see how it goes.

FCD has already left for the boat and I asked him to call if he needs help - I can get there in about half an hour. I’ll be surprised if he calls…

Guess I should get in gear. But first:
Happy taters Day!!!
And Happy Tuesday to the rest!

Good morning, good people! Good morning also to bad people and to those who aren’t sure whether they’re good or bad.

It’s 72 Fargersnarfers now, predicted to rise to a probably-rainy 82 later. I think we’ll leave the windows closed and the AC on.

I’m reading Monstrous Regiment. which is, I think, the last of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld novels. I believe I’ve read all the rest of them. Praise be to Nuggan.
