The hijack game. win absolutely nothing but your insanity...

S’funny, my sinuses give me headaches. But they’re actually my sinuses.

I have no class.

I never could keep straight order, genus, class, species – or do I have them in the right … ahem, order here?

One of our students in the lab has been going to various elementary schools and teaching the kids about science. She began one lesson by speaking of the various classifications of life and then asked the kids if anyone could name a kingdom for her. One little boy waved his arm in the air enthusiastically, and when called upon, blurted out “The United Kingdom!”.

I visited the United Kingdom once, way back in 1971. Well, actually I visited only the south of England – never got elsewhere. One cool thing, though: It was still possible then to walk among the megaliths of Stonehenge; it hadn’t been fenced off from the tourists yet.

The experience was especially moving because I’d taken a local bus out to the nearby Roman ruins, then walked out along the highway across Salisbury Plain to Stonehenge. What seemed like the merest gray smudge upon the vast flat expanse gradually resolved itself into the henge, finally towering over me as I arrived at it. My journey to Stonehenge was probably as close as any 20th century visitor could get to that of its makers.

Wait, I thought Stonehenge was like two feet tall. Y’know, small enough to be in danger of being crushed by a dwarf…

I gotta stop relying on exploding drummers for my history lessons.

I hated Spinal Tap. It was just a cheesy rip on Black Sabbath! Or Sabbath was a rip on Spinal Tap. I forget.

I heard they’re releasing a new boxed set (Sabbath, that is). Speaking of boxed sets, the man who created Riverdance is going to release one soon. What’s it gonna take to stop that dancing freak?

People think I’m a freak because I have eight cats.

Maybe they’re right – although mine are all healthy and vet-checked, and my house doesn’t stink.

Over ten, though – won’t go there because then I WOULD be on the slippery slope to certified crazy cat lady.

According to this site, the hierarchy is Kingdom/Phylum/Class/Order/Family/Genus/Species. Incidentally, “Carolus Linnaeus” is a Latinization of “Karl von Linné”. “Linné” is pronounced like “Lenny”, which makes me think Matt Groening used the scientist’s name as inspiration for the Simpsons characters Carl and Lenny.

Kings Play Chess On Fat Girls’ Stomachs. Picture that in your head. Form a nice, detailed image. That is all that you need to remember.

If you’re having difficulty remembering what Sternvogel is talking about in the other part of his answer, just remember, Carl=black, Lenny=white. Write that on your hand, if you have to.

Now, what are the kings wearing? Are the chessboards resting on the fat girls’ stomachs, or are they painted on? These are the kinds of questions you should be able to answer if you know your Linnaean classification.

TeenSAccent is taking a date to the homecoming. We went shopping this morning to purchase a wristlet corsage, a new shirt, tie, pocket silk and socks to go with his suit.

What kind of flowers are in the corsage?

I’m here, at the library. While I can’t undo what happened (God knows I wish I could), I just wanted to check in. Time to move on… I’ve apologized, and it’s not up to me whether they accept it or not. Right now, I"m semi-0okay. Thanks.

Hi, F_X. Yep, you’ve done what you could, and now, oh, joy, your fate on this matter is in someone else’s hands. Yuck. Good thoughts heading your way.

Meanwhile, back at the game…

Most of my childhood was spent living in a house right behind the town library. What a blissful state for a book-devouring girl! All the librarians knew me well – VERY well.

White roses.

White roses? That sounds lovely.

The neighbors on the other side of the fence in my back yard have a rose bush that sends tendrils over the top of the fence each year. So I get so enjoy the flowers without having to do any of the work.

I want to start some Jasmine on the fence. It smells so good.

Thanks, ETF. Much appreciated.

The library? Yeah, I love to read… however, my brother thinks I spend too much time at message boards to actually read books. (he told me that tonight when we were heading home, in fact) That’s not true!

Jasmine really does smell so wonderful. I don’t have any place to plant flowers though, so will have to be content with jasmine scented candles.

I just started reading Nights in Rodanthe, this morning.
