I sat up late las tnight, reading the latest Harry Potter. Good thing I reread the series before starting it, or I’d have been hopelessly lost.
Last night I watched the movie “May”.
She killed her cat with an ashtray.
Ew. That sort of rhymes… Anyhow it was a strange movie and I had dreams about legs being sewn on things…
Last night the boys watched Remember the Titans.
I know that’s a football movie, but here’s a page about another group of Titans. Not exactly a definitive scholarly source, however – Atlas and Prometheus are named in the second paragraph. In the subsequent list, however, they’re nowhere to be found.
I always thought Prometheus would be a good name for a cat.
Sorry I didn’t get to your post before now… no excuse for it.
But thanks for your wishes… I’m feeling a little better.

We’re going to lunch with a few of my parents’ friends from church. I asked my mom if my brother and I knew them; besides our former pastor’s wife… of COURSE we know her!
Her answer: “Of course you do! You were over at their house many times when you were a baby!”
Clue to Mom: I was a baby MANY years ago, and not very likely to have memories of that time!
Baby… baby… how can I hijack on baby…
O-KAY:
I baby my horses – give them lots of treats, and scritches where they love it, and face rubs, and ear massages. After all, if I expect them to haul my middle-aged spread around the countryside, they deserve some appreciation.
I haven’t ridden a horse in about ten years.
Ah, Abby, riding is like no other sport – when you’ve attained some level of skill, and are mounted on a good hrose, it’s just heavenly.
And speaking of horses, and hijacking the hijack game, I’m proud to announce that my very first guest Staff Report has come out!
The first paragraph, and all but the last two sentences of the second, are Ed Zotti’s editing of my submission. The SD had two letters addressing this question, and I wrote my answer directed to one. Then Ed chose the other as the lead-in, and rewrote the intro. But pretty much everything from the last two sentences of the second paragraph onward is mine – warts and all.
I’m so puffed up!!!
Silly me.
Congrats ETF.
Congrats, ETF.
Speaking of horses, I used to take horseback riding lessons when I was a child. I remember the feeling of riding a horse for the first time. Very wobbly, but I got used to it. However, it’s been YEARS since I’ve ridden a horse.

I’ll second (actually third) that emotion, and also (as the minister at my church says) express it on behalf of all those who have chosen to remain silent.
I’ve been on horseback thrice in my life – once at day camp, once at a farm owned by friends of my maternal grandparents, and most recently (albeit over 20 years ago) with a friend I met while I was in college. However, I’m around equines frequently, as my sweetie works at the Purdue Large Animal Hospital and owns a couple of miniature donkeys.
I finished reading Nights of Rodanthe and started reading A Bend in the Road. What are y’all reading?
I’m three-quarters or so through Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, having reread the whole series beforehand – and a good thing too, or I’d have been rather lost. It’s absorbing, but by golly is Harry ever a teenager iin this one. Moods, moods, moods – though, granted, he has cause.
I’m still waiting for Dolores Umbridge (what a delicious name!) to get her comeuppance, although things are beginning to look promising.
"VOLDEMORT!!!" Ne-e-e-e-i-i-i-gh!!!
I also read the newspaper. I wonder if anyone really will rent their home for thousands of dollars a night to Superbowl fans? I think I’d be scared that my home would get trashed. (Which explains why I won’t be making any money off the idea. heh.)
I’ve been catching up on the newspaper over the last couple of days. Nothing that I haven’t already heard in some form or other.
As for non-newspaper related readings… Blood and Gold by Anne Rice (though my friend Corey says it ruins the series if I read it out of order), Life of Pi by Yann Martel, The Action Heroine’s Handbook by Jennifer Worick and Joe Borgenicht, The Young OXFORD Book of Timewarp Stories, and Shakey: Neil Young’s Biography by Jimmy McDonough.
Yes, I do a lot of reading… it provides me with distraction, humor, escapism, and more.
I just ate a cheese salsa sandwich… it was pretty good, actually.
What weird things do you eat on a regular basis? (or not, as the case may be)

Okay, never mind that tangent.
Went to Granville Sushi for lunch today… I think it might be my new Saturday tradition. See, I’m too lazy to make lunch myself sometimes on Saturday… and I’m not going to eat at McDonald’s if I can help it! (too greasy and stuff there) Sushi isn’t that bad for you, and it’s not THAT expensive if I just stick to the lower-priced menu items. Besides, the service there is really fast… I can usually get in and out of there within 20-30 minutes if need be. That’s definitely a plus.
(no, they don’t have any bubble tea)

Sushi… ah, that’s one of the few things I miss from city life. You have to travel a good ways to find it, out here in the wilds of Exurbia.
On the other hand, there’s lots of wonderful fresh seafood, since it’s a coastal town.
