The Historical Birthdays MMP

Thirdsies on Coke Zero having slightly more bite than Diet Coke and even more bite than Diet Pepsi. Given my druthers I go for Coke Zero first, than Diet Coke. Diet Pepsi brings up the rear.

I did try Coke Zero, although it’s been quite some time. It seemed flat.

I’ll live; it’s not the end of the world. Less soda is better for the teeth, anyway. I limit myself to one or two cans a day, and my husband prefers Diet Coke too.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s 5c/41f out there with no predicted change, and partly cloudy. Weather app says “The weather is a complete fucking bag of suck today.” Well, it’s been better, and it’s been worse.

sari I’m sorry to hear about Ripple’s results, hopefully you caught it quickly enough to treat it.

Sunny good to hear that hubs is improving, but Akiko definitely needs to improve on those manners!

Moooom yay on the possible house sale, and the correct death certificates. Now FCD can get on with things and that won’t be hanging over you quite so much.

'im indoors did not meet up with his batshit crazy friend last night after all. He messaged said friend to confirm time/place, and it turns out friend was locked in the house! He’s been sleeping on his mother’s sofa, she was out and he didn’t have a key so he couldn’t go out until she came back. It’s a long boring story, but anyway we heard no more from him last night so I didn’t get my planned alone time either. That’s both of us annoyed with flaky friend, for different reasons!

I am just about done with irk for today, it’s been a long and tedious week. Today has been particularly unproductive, I’ve not managed to do any of the things I needed to do so my list is as long as it was at the start of the day.

The weekend is nearly here though - gym in the morning, then a haircut, errands in town, and a gig in the evening. Sunday will require the deployment of the roll-suck in the morning, and the rest of the day shall be devoted to slothage. Bring it on!

Dishes are done and kitchen is mostly tidy. Rollsuck done. Recipes sorted and put in the correct file folders, and a bunch have been tossed. They were either duplicates, not really identified, or dishes I knew I’d never make.

FCD had to go to his mom’s - her phone got messed up and even if she could see, she’d have no clue how to straighten it out. No clue when he’ll get back.

Since I’ve been productive, I think I’ve earned some recliner time.

I saw a very bad accident on my way in to work this morning. Of two lanes of traffic both going north on a busy commuter street, the right hand lane was stopped, but the left hand lane was zooming along at a good clip. I was in the right hand lane, behind a car that left a gap to let traffic from a side street on the right drive through to make a left turn.

A car did drive through and was promptly smashed into by a fast car in the left lane. Then the smashed drive-through car started rolling backwards quickly on its way to smash into the car right in front of me. The smashed car driver’s door opened and the driver tried to jump out (or maybe he fell out - it was moving too quickly to judge), and he became entangled in his seat belt and fell under the tires of his moving car. I gasped and was moving to cover my eyes, but by sheer luck his car then reached the end of its backwards roll by smacking into the car in front of me. It came to a stop with maybe an inch to go before it crushed the driver. He scrambled out from under, and three other guys scrambled out from the car and all ran over to the curb.

Then the idiots proceeded to run back and forth from the cub to their wrecked car, apparently to get their stuff out. They were running through traffic that was trying to get around the accident.

I was shaking all over from the shock of almost seeing the guy get crushed in front of me. Two cars were totaled and the car in front of me damaged.

What a Friday.

Ended up playing fill in senior clerk after she called out. Had to RTs a package, since we don’t delver to email addresses.

And how. :open_mouth:

Mrs. L.A. said she doesn’t want a floor for her greenhouse, and that I can just build it on the gravel foundation, because she’ll have the hose out there and the floor would be all wet. Sounds good to me. It will save me a couple-hundred simoleons and a few hours of work.

In other news, she got a call from Fiserve this morning. She’d bought a new mattress last weekend. (It’s the last thing she used the card for.) Today there were a bunch of declined charges on her credit card. We suspect that her credit card number was stolen after she bought the mattress. I’m guessing the charges were declined because the crook didn’t have the physical card, and thus did not have the security code. Anyway, her card is cancelled and a new one will be on its way.

Holy :face_with_symbols_over_mouth: it is snowing and blowing sideways. I gotta get my lil hatchback through the crap roads, and off for Long Night closing shift tonight.

Wish me luck. Someone is gonna say “Herrrdurrr it’s cold out there! Can I place an order with you?” through my open window. While they clean dirty ice off their car window by tossing it into my face.

teelabrown, that is quite the morning. i hope your day improved after that wild commute.

I got waaaay behind and have mostly skipped the last ~150 posts, except that I noticed two heartbreaking pieces of doggy news: {{{pullin}}} and {{{Sahirrnee}}}

And welcome, GOG!

The reason I’m so far behind is that on Tuesday night I lost my freaking mind and volunteered to chair my NAACP branch’s membership committee – in addition to being a member-at-large on the executive committee, and still being a member of the committee I joined in 2020 (though frankly that hardly takes any of my time these days). Then the first general membership meeting of the year was last night (virtual). I never planned to chair a committee, but they were really in need and I’m a sucker for leadership voids…plus I think I’ll do a good job, and with my current lack of musical direction I find myself with an unusual amount of spare time. The previous chairperson just had oral surgery and is still recovering, so the transition is still in flux. I think this is something that will take a bunch of time at first, as I learn processes and get the committee organized, but once I get over the hump it shouldn’t be more than a couple hours a week. Most weeks. We’ll see.

In other news, on Wednesday night I stabbed myself with a toothpick! :woman_facepalming: I needed to use a couple after eating some popcorn, and I put them in a napkin on the coffee table. At the end of the evening when I went to clean up and go to bed I forgot the toothpicks were there, and grabbed the napkin in such a way that I stabbed my right palm. It didn’t bleed so I didn’t think anything of it, but then yesterday morning while I was washing my hands I thought “why is my hand sore??” Yep, there’s a tiny round puncture (not sure how it didn’t bleed, frankly). You’d think by the age of 51 I’d have the whole “using common household objects without hurting myself” thing down, but noooooo.

I have no plans this weekend – except maybe some emails/conversations related to the whole committee chair thing – and I am very happy about it. I plan to do a whole lotta nothing this evening.

Howdy Y’all! Candles were dutifully taken care of and we et N.O.L. at the hog trough Golden Corral. Beyond that much sloth has ensued. Been a cool day so nice to be in da cave and warm. Nappage and day drinkin’ were also accomplished, lest y’all think we’ve been slack.

Both of us have a preference for Diet Poopsie. Poopsie Zero is OK and will be bought if’n it’s on sale. Same with Diet Coke and Coke Zero. We have a preference but we’re cheap thrifty. Right now we are well stocked with Diet Poopsie.

MOOOOOOM great news on the impendin’ house sale. Hope it happens soonest. Also, yay for gettin’ the corrected death certificates so fast. Here’s hopin’ all the stuff with that is taken care of soonest, as well. I shall have to make that apple cake soon.

red glad things are improvin’. You have a pass from houseirk as you are in recovery.

teela Yikes! Glad noone was hurt, especially you.

Doggio you mean Brown won’t deliver me an anvil via email? I am so disappointed!

Oopsie you get a pass to loll around over the weekend. You have an injury and must recover!

SWMBO suggested we go to a Greek restaurant for dinner tonight. Every time we go, I want to get moussaka, but I always get something else. Tonight for sure! Only… The arni psito ‘New Zealand roast lamb shoulder dredged in mustard and lemon sauce. Braised slowly until it cuts with a fork’ looks really good.

Yikes teela! I have a great amount of caution with left turns without an arrow. The last two accidents that I’ve been in were left turns gone wrong.

Farted around in the studio most of the day, although KP and laundry did get done. I think this extraction is going to take longer to heal than the last one, given its surgical nature. Fortunately, there are drugs. :stuck_out_tongue:

This sounds horrible. I’m glad you’re ok. There’s nothing worse than having a sense of being completely helpless while something awful is happening.

Dude! Everyone has email addresses. You need to catch up! /s

Yuck. It’s such a pain to deal with getting a new card. Have you let the mattress store know? It sounds like they have an employee problem to look into.

shoe :four_leaf_clover: :crossed_fingers::four_leaf_clover:

Akiko just went after Yoshi, and managed to cut her nose and break a nail doing it. I think she was trying to keep him away from me while he barfed. I was trying to get his bark collar off to help him be more comfortable while barfing. Neither one of us got the expected result. I may get large dogs again, but no more Akitas for me.

Happy Friday everyone!

ETA - for some reason, the note for Shoe is showing as a link to historical birthdays, and clicking the links brings me back to… here.

I did laundry, and am watching hockey. I wanted a martini, but my scurvy was acting up, so I made it with the Tanquray Sevilia Orange and the local grapefruit/rosemary bitters. And a twist of lemon.

dog “Sewing needle under the fingernail” butler feels your pain.

Well, my elderly beagle bit Gordie on the nose, just to show dominance, so it’s not just large dogs. Glad Yoshi is relatively unharmed, though.

< grumbles and hooks up Tron laser to SSLAW #2 >

I keep meanin’ to play the birthday game! I’m not aware of sharing a birthday with any notorious/bad people, but here are some of the famous:

Gustav Holst
H.G. Wells
Chuck Jones
Jerry Bruckheimer
Larry Hagman
Leonard Cohen
Stephen King (and his character Carrie)
Bill Murray
Rob Morrow
Ricki Lake
Dave Coulier
Faith Hill
Luke Wilson
Alfonso Ribeiro
Cheryl Hines
Billy Porter
Liam Gallagher
Nicole Richie
Jason Derulo

You win. :flushed:

(ouch!)

I finally ordered the moussaka!

And they were out. I had the arni psito, which was excellent. Most of the appetisers are left, and I ate less than half of my lamb. The Missus has a couple of dolmades left. Leftover heaven.

I got curious as to why diet and zero sugar colas would taste different and looked it up. Until a couple months ago, Pepsi Zero Sugar (originally Diet Pepsi Max) contained TWICE the caffeine of Diet Pepsi plus ginseng. Today the only real difference seems to be that Pepsi Zero Sugar contains aspertame and acesulfame potassium, which supposedly give it a more “syrupy” taste, while Diet Pepsi has aspertame only. Coke Zero Sugar is supposed to taste more like original Coke and has less caffeine (38 mg. vs Diet Coke’s 46). Diet Coke has always had a different, “lighter” flavor than original Coke. I wonder why. Maybe to make it taste more like Tab (a Coca-Cola product)?

teelabrown, that sounds horrible! No wonder you were shaking! My guess as to why they ran back to the car is that they were retrieving drugs before the cops came.

shoe, I hope the drive to and from work is OK and that the customers aren’t too stupid.

Sorry about the credit card hacking, flyboy. It’s sure a PITA.

Congrats, oopsie! And good for you for taking on the responsibility.

Evening all. Got swimming and sauna in for the day and did some banking. Have solved most of the newspaper puzzles and will finish the last one before turning in. Have to coach soccer at 3pm tomorrow (filling in for another coach) but don’t have to referee the 14U group, which is OK by me. Supposed to get to 32F tonight, but up to 60F tomorrow.

lucky, a sudden and unexpected crash like that would shake anybody up…hope you are doing ok. Just glad that it appears no one was seriously injured. I always hate it when one out of two lanes stop and motion me forward, I have no idea what the other lane is doing, often I just turn right with traffic and work my way back.

Flyboy, sounds like you and SWMBO will be eating well for a spell. And a special curse for Credit Card thieves.

Sunny, sounds like the dogs are quite a handful. Take care. Great news about Beamer.

swampy, now you got me thinking about driving over to Decatur to the nearest Golden Corral for Sunday Dinner…either that or Meatloaf at the Metro Diner.

Oopsie, I don’t think I have any toothpicks, but hurting yourself with common household objects is something we all do. And congrats on the workload; you’re doing good so it is something I hope you enjoy.

Boofae, so 'im indoors got to stay indoors; crazy friend may not be worth the time.

Ok, to bed and Sudoku-solving. All y’all take care.

Howdy all. Sari I’m so sorry to hear about Ripple. Here’s hoping they got clean margins and he’ll be OK.

Also sorry for your loss Pullin.

Lazy day at Chez Butters. I did cook supper so that was the sum of my productivity.
