Howdy Y’all! Been a day of not much. I have started to wrangle folks into servin’ at services durin’ February as it will be upon us soon. In addition to four Sundays I have Ash Wednesday to schedule as well. There may or may not be two services that day. Interim Priest is bein’ kinda willy-nilly on that. The usual sloth, nappage, and day drinkin’ were accomplished. Sup was chili and cornbread with all the fixin’s and 'twas a good thing on a cold(ish) day.
Sari I am so sorry about Ripple. Hope it is all resolved quickly and painlessly for him.
Yanker hope your son recovers soonest.
Everyone else, retention is minimal right now, so, yays, boos, hugs, noogies, trouts, chitlins, and how you doin’s all around, as needed.
Congrats on the entrance to a smaller pants size metal mouse!
Picked up the prescriptions and enough groceries to round out the week, talked to Dad and farted around in the studio for the first time since this all began, so it was a productive day.
Home at last!! Our pizza night was nice, if noisy. OMG can Tobias shriek!!
While we were there, the realtor called from Ocala - he’s got TWO offers on the house! One is a lowball cash offer, the other is at asking. He’s going to play the two against each other to see how much he can get. But it looks like it should be sold in short order. MIL is relieved. Between the hurricane and interest rates shooting up, it’s taken longer than we expected for it to sell. Before Ian, houses in that neighborhood would sell in like 2 or 3 days. Oh well…
The apple cake was really good! Aunt made a salad and we had 3 different pizzas. We’s all stuffded! Not sure what tomorrow will hold, apart from no babby - so yay! And there’s a chance SIL won’t be working Firdays after all - it’s still up in the air. Fingers crossed.
Five-thirty in the pee-em, and we’ve finished dinner. Tonight I made baked mahi-mahi with lemon-dill Béchamel sauce, and asparagus. (The sauce is good on asparagus too.)
{{{{{Sari and Ripple}}}}}. You never seem to catch a break, do you. Hope it’s treatable.
FCM, glad the Pizza was good and Toby was in fine voice. And good news from the realtor, that will help MIL budget quite a bit (with the other two BIL’s being…difficult…just as well you guys are handling it for her).
Actually, both Diet Pepsi and Pepsi Zero have caffeine (more in the Diet Pepsi); apparently the Zero means Zero Sugar, which seems fairly obvious. Diet Pepsi has a no-caffeine version, but I didn’t care for it at all.
nellie, glad the knee is doing better. And 5 miles on the treadmill is way better than I could do–did about 50 minutes/500 calories on the stationary bikes today and it left me sweating like a horse.
Ms. Owl, thanks for the confirmation, not my type of sammich, but it’s history is interesting to say the least.
OK, Freddy’s Steakburger and fries are assimilating in my belly and sent a text to stop my newspaper during travel, and so I have been moderately industrious. Internettin’ and readin’ are the evening plan. Ally’all take care.
Yay on the probable house sale, FCM! Does your apple cake have frosting or a glaze, or is it so moist, there’s no need?
Gosh, I’m ignorant! So if the both have caffeine, what’s the difference? Does Diet Pepsi have sugar?
Sari, the only reason I knew that about mast cell tumors is that when I was first diagnosed with an autoimmune mast cell disorder and was googling, I came across an article about MCT’s in dogs. Also, when my son and DIL’s lab had cancer, he (dog) had to have chemo. I was AMAZED to learn chemo in dogs isn’t a big deal: they don’t lose fur or get nauseated or anything. The chemo worked, BTW. I’m very hopeful about Ripple.
I’m not a soda drinker but as I understand it Diet drinks are allowed to have sugar, but not much. Pepsi Zero is all artificial sweeteners, no sugar at all. People who are not me really can tell the difference in blindfold tests. They can also tell the difference between regular Coke and Pepsi. (Do to my branching out into fake cheeze making, I’ve been reading about branding and words and what they mean when used in labels.)
I am not those people, but I am able to tell the difference between American and Mexican Coke, which is highly prized by some of our friends. (Who serve me ice water with lemon because I’m such a philistine I can’t properly appreciate the good things in life, LOL!)
Cancer is such a devastating diagnosis, it is good to hear about a good outcome right away.
It was WINDY today. It’s always windy here, I live out in the middle of the desert with no windbreaks, so when I start bitching about the wind you guys need to know that it was bad! The hummer feeder splattered syrup all over the porch and the across the street neighbor’s trash can blew up against their neighbor’s fence.
I wouldn’t have noticed, but hubs pointed it out. He watches that trash can like I watch the birds. The across the street neighbors are young stoners and honestly are a constant source of amusement to us, but hubs brings the trash can up at least once a day.
The neighbors don’t seem to have much urgency about bringing their trash can up and have been seen tossing bags of trash off their porch to the area where their can should be if it wasn’t still out by the street. We have both seen them each come home and move the can out of the driveway, then drive the 20 yards to their steps and leave the can where it is.
We laugh.
@Sunny_Daze Thanks for checking in. I was just going to ask about you. How is your beloved husband doing? How are you doing? How are the dogs doing? We miss you!
Hubby has started taking some medication and I think he’s doing better. Things aren’t all better, but he’s more interactive and less irritable, which is great. We were all starting to avoid, which isn’t good for any of us.
Akiko has twice gotten her little devious mitts onto something that 100% would have meant a vet visit. The first time I wrestled it away from her. My fingers got between some of her teeth - she wasn’t trying to bite, just keep her goody. The second time she was determined that it would be hers! Forever! Only Akiko. I ended up scruffy her and yelling “drop it”, which she did. I don’t think I’ve had a dog that wouldn’t do what I asked in that situation, so we’ll be practicing until it’s engrained.
'Beamer has been offered a job as a teacher’s aide at his school when he graduates this year. I can’t tell you how happy this makes me. I’m so proud of him. He had a rough go of things for awhile, and this school has made so much difference.
Good on the Hubby news. While I am a big believer in better living through chemistry, nobody ever gets to take a a pill that makes everything better. I’m glad you both are ready to work together to fix the problem.
Bad Akiko! No eating things that make you go to the vet, they will do unspeakable things to you while you are there!
Tell 'Beamer that I am proud of him as well! Good for him and for you and Hubby. Both of you made a huge difference in his success, just by the daily reinforcement and encouragement. Hurray for everyone!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 34 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 54 and N.O.S. Today’s big adventure is takin’ care of candle duty over to the church house. Then we shall go to the hog trough GC for the main feed of the day. Plus we shall maintain our usual slothful ways.
Sunny glad the hubs is doin’ better. May he continue to do so. Bad Akiko! You don’t WANT to go to the mean ol’ vet do you! Yay for Beamer!
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Similarly with Coke products, Diet Coke and Coke Zero are caffeinated but there’s a Diet Coke Caffeine Free. I can barely tolerate Coke Zero - I only drink it because I bought it and I refuse to throw it away. But it’s close to gross. There is a difference in flavor between the two Diet Coke versions, but I drink both kinds.
No need for anything, tho French Vanilla Ice Cream atop would be a nice touch. It borders on gooey/sticky if you eschew a fork and go in with fingers. The recipe:
One Bowl Apple Cake
2 eggs
1 ¾ cups sugar (I used 1 cup white sugar and ¾ cup brown sugar)
2 heaping teaspoons cinnamon
½ cup oil
6 medium Gala, Fuji, or Honey Crisp apples, peeled and sliced
2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
Preheat oven 350°. Grease a 9X13 pan or two 9” round pans.
Mix the first 4 ingredients together till well blended. Add apple slices and mix well to coat.
Add flour and baking soda and mix well. Pour into pan(s) and bake for 50-55 minutes
I think it would also work with sliced peaches and maybe a teaspoon of nutmeg in addition to the cinnamon.
Obviously I’m up. Critters have been tended to and I just finished ingesting PB&J toast. Caffeination continues. I was just interrupted by Taz flipping the lid on the kibble dispenser - he was out of food and was requesting a refill. I’m usually on top of that - shame on me…
FCD finally got the correct death certs, so today he’ll be dealing with insurance paperwork and FIL’s pension and SS and whatever else needs doing. I’m thinking I’ll organize the mess that is my pile o’recipes, then I’ll start on our taxes. The trek to Indianapolis will probably happen midweek - it all depends on when the blood thinners work their way out of MIL’s system and her chemistry gets back to normal. Oh, and it depends upon the weather along I-70 also. Aunt is 79 and not a fan of driving in heavy weather. Can’t say as I blame her.
We’ve got a mild weekend ahead, but several days of rain, then next weekend when we finally have our getaway, it’s gonna be quite cold. Luckily, we had no plans in particular - if we spend most of our time lazing around the hotel room and the hot tub/pool area, that’ll be fine. If we can walk the boardwalk, that’ll be fine too, but if not, no biggie. That’s next weekend. This weekend we’ll figure out as we go along.
Morning all. Got to thinking about the password for my laptop and where I wrote it down and it bothered me so much I was up before 6am to check it. So paper rescued and pill taken, so I am ready for the day (I think). Need to do some banking pre-trip and do a couple other checks, have sent the text to the paper delivery person to stop but haven’t got a response yet. So many things to do before leaving on a trip…
Sunny, pretty good news all around, but Akiko needs some manners traiining…
JtC, like FCM noted, Diet Pepsi and Pepsi Zero both have no sugar, all artificial sweetners…so what the difference is…I can tell the difference between them and regular Pepsi, but am developing a taste for them now. And yeah,I can taste the difference between US and “Mexican” Coke too.
OK, need to get the day started and find something else to worry about. All y’all take care.
It’s currently 45 degrees. The expected high is 45 and the skies are supposed to be cloudy all day. We have a chance for a modified arctic blast moving into Washington this weekend, which might bring some wet snow to some areas. However, there is no expected accumulation.
Sunny, I’m glad things are improving a little.
sari, I’m sorry about Ripple’s diagnosis. I hope it’s treatable.
I am one of those who can tell the difference between Pepsi and Coke. Pepsi seems to be oddly flat to me. I drink regular Diet Coke because the caffeine free seems flat. Also, I think my tastes are changing because Diet Coke seems to have less of a bite, and the bite is why I enjoy Diet Coke. It’s like the formula changed or something. At any rate, I find myself drinking less of it, which is probably a good thing. I drink more water than soda now. Occasionally, we treat ourselves to premium root beers or sasparilla, but I don’t drink much of that. Everything tastes sweeter now, and sometimes it just seems like too much. It’s all weird and annoying.
I don’t have any set plans on the agenda today other than certifying my timecard. I must be paid, lol! I might go outside and round up the fallen tree branches, rake up some leaves, and do some general tidying in the backyard. But I’ll need to wait for daylight first.
Yay on the house sale Moooooom! I’m opposite you on the Diet Coke / Coke Zero debate. Coke Zero tends to have more of a bite to me. Your apple cake is pretty much the same one that my late granddad’s lady friend used to make. It was delicious! If she wanted to fancy it up a bit, she would put a paper doily on top and lightly sprinkle powdered sugar for the design.
It sounds like things are beginning to look up again sunny. I’m glad that the meds are helping your hubby. It’s wonderful to hear of the teacher’s assistant.position for Beamer. Akiko needs to learn a few things about what consists of edible though.
JtC, I keep a sixer of either Mexican Coke or kosher for Passover Coke in the little 6.5 oz. bottles in the fridge for guests or when my BG takes a nosedive (cane sugar hits the bloodstream pretty much immediately and 6.5 oz. is just about the right size). These days, most of my fizz water is selzer.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and a load of laundry in the wash. I’m giving myself a break from all houseirk except the necessary laundry and trash detail this weekend. My mouth is still sore, but not nearly as painful as before, so things are improving.
