St. Blase

Roman Catholic Patron Saints: Seen, it, covered it.

So on February 3rd we’ll all light a candle to St. Blasé and our nellie will be cured. Or at least our houses will smell good, if we pick the right candles.

Oh, my gosh. I went to Catholic school. On St. Blaise Day, we’d troop downstairs to the church (basement of school building, so dank and dark) and line up to have the priest cross candles in front of our throats and say a prayer to St. Blaise, whom I thought was St. Blaze, due to the candles. We loved it, not because we were fond of St. Blaise or we were afraid of choking (his specialty), but because any break from the tedium of classes was welcome. If someone had said, “Hey! It’s Saint Apollonia Day! Line up so we can yank out your molars!” We’d have happily joined the queue.

I’m sorry you deal with this, too. I think it’s a very large club.

Of course they have a name, thank you so much for giving it to me! Mom wants to give me her beautiful cedar hope chest which still perfect for sitting on, but also perfect for stubbing toes cause wood hurts.

Back when I was working for the state, I signed up for every single shot or blood drive for just that same reason. An hour away from the phones and cookies and juice? I was always up for that.

There aren’t a lot of things I miss about working, but having a nurse come to my desk to give me a cookie with one hand while jabbing me with the other was great.

While I tell everyone that my expertise at cleaning up blood is because Hubs has paper skin and is on blood thinners, I learned a lot of my skills because my sinuses are so crap that I can start a nosebleed just by sneezing wrong.

Hoomans have been breathing air for a very long time, why haven’t our bodies gotten better at it yet?

Damn. If any of you are still awake, please send some good thoughts to my son and his wife and their very old dog. The dog hasn’t been well lately, and tonight she took a turn for the worse. They’re at the emergency vet now. I’m pretty sure they’ll be putting her to sleep soon. She’s been a Very Good Dog, and though they knew this day was coming, they’ll be heartbroken. I will, too.

So sad. Good thoughts for them.

I’ll be holding them in the light :candle::candle::candle:
