The thread tile meant nothing to me. As it is, the subject matter is the kind that can only really produce responses like:

"How horrible!
“I agree, it’s horrible!”
"Ditto!
“Me too!”

You forgot

“I wish I believed in hell so I could wish this person there.”

“I hope this person gets his fat ass raped in prison.”

“How dare you make jokes about prison rape!”

“What does his being fat have to do with it? Are you saying that all fat people are child molesters?”

“But if we weren’t wasting all that money in Iraq, we could hire some more police and prevent all this!”

“Well, Clinton was impeached for a blow job, and the system is rigged against third parties anyway, so we will never clean up this mess!”

and the subsequent barrage of “penis ensues”, Hi Opal, and Simpsons quotes.

And then the worst cliche of all -

The RO schtick is overused, IMO, and increasingly tedious. Posters shouldn’t have to apologize for posting about issues in the news, much less face knee-jerk ridicule on the basis that they probably don’t apply personally to most posters. Most message board fodder won’t, but that sure as hell includes the majority of threads active in the Pit at any given time. Posters’ flames about in-laws, rotten neighbors, cat declawing, rude customers/service folk, yadda yadda could just as easily qualify as ‘recreational’ venting.

And the correct response to the RO hayters is “Why didn’t you just close the thread and go to the next one?” Except in this case, the OP pitted everyone who did that in the second post. And since the thread title is misleading, someone who dislikes RO threads is going to be more likely to open it.

OK, so for 13 hours** (13 whole hours!)** folks failed to have any comment on this.

Of course it cannot mean that people saw it and said “Yup, fucked up world, can’t add anything”
Or that they were busy caring about any of the several million instances of Man’s Inhumanity to Man, going on right that moment across the planet…
…or just tied up on the immediate concerns of their lives such as “get off that messageboard and start with the homework, young man!”

Or that some time even a perfectly fine thread just fucking flops and fails to gain traction.

No, 13 hours w/o response, must mean we suck. And don’t care about exploited children.
