Finally, I have something to make someone else jealous. I have one, but not everything that goes with it. I do have a 300 mm telephoto lens, though.

A sensory deprivation tank
A spotting scope, for birding. And a really nice pair of 10x binoculars (I currently have an 8x42 pair which is fairly nice, but 10x would be better for those warblers who like to hang out in the very tops of trees).
That monarch butterfly cat is just WRONG. The cat should be a marmie, not a white spotted black cat. The ladybug cat, on the other hand, looks great.
I have found and ordered stuff that I used to have, but lost over various moves and disasters. For instance, I bought a couple of old books that I had as a child, but which were lost in the Great Basement Flood.
As for things that I’m probably not gonna get…I’d say I’m probably not going to pay 10 bucks or more for a titanium spork, no matter how neat I think they are. I’d like to buy a Wham-O Magic Window toy (two sheets of plexiglas with two different colors and weights of sand between them), but I am NOT going to pay more than $50 for one. I’m not going to buy a Buster Sword (from a video game, Final Fantasy VII) or a Lionheart Sword (from FFVIII), or any other sword, really. Nor am I likely to buy any shurikens, no matter how much I want them. I have the money, but I really don’t have the space.
I may have to get one of those…
What I want is one of these - Boehm Stirling engine The HB9-HS2
I think we might actually have one- you want it? It’s an original. PM me.
This.
I’m also still pining away over a beautiful pair of shoes that were posted in a thread a while back, but I was never able to find or buy. They were so pretty.
About 10or 12 years ago the Navy Exchange catalog had a home potato chip maker, you put a clean peeled potato in, filled the tank with oil, brought i t t temp and turned on the slicer. it sliced the tater into the oil and it had a little basket that autodipped out the finished chips. To this day I regret never having bought it.
The Amana Cook and Clean. Instead of a regular range, it was a cook top over a dish washer, and a microwave oven above it with a light/air filter. Great in the small studio I lived in at the time. I owned enough dishes, and pots n pans n kitchen stuff so that I unloaded everything, made dinner, loaded it all back up after breakfast and ran it wile I went to work, to come home to all clean kitchen stuff. I think there would be a killer market for it nowdays. Lots of people are living in smaller places and it would be great for saving space for someone who really doesnt do much cooking.
One of these, with black faux-mink fur trim, a Celtic Drage clasp, and a black faux fur lining. /drool
Also, add me to the list of people who want one of those egg-and-bread-and-meat cooker widgets.
This is what I want, with the same custom set-up as Chris Smith, but with Fox shocks and forks.
It would be sex on wheels. Painful, mechanical sex, but still…
Sign me up. I got the change to fly one once - in the French alps, no less.
Try these, instead - like a combined binocs, spotting scope and tripod.
I flew in a similar, smaller one over the Big Island of Hawaii. Very cool.
This is so cool it makes my teeth hurt.
One of Brian Dettmer’s works of book art…I can’t decide which one is my favorite, though. They’re just insanely creative.
Couple more tattoos would be nice. And another horse!
I want to custom laser-cut something. What? I don’t know. Perhaps what I really want is my own laser cutter.
I also want a machine for making yarn. A beautiful one. Made out of beautiful materials. Nevermind that I don’t know how to spin.
And then some Sanguine Gryphon sock yarn. I want one in every color. I want a roomful, my own squishy, colorful answer to Uncle Scrooge’s money pit (and at $28 a pop it would be quite a money pit), to roll around in and occasionally to knit with.
And then I want my very own Theo Jansen sculpture.
Sigh…
I found Bring A Trailer a while ago, and there are a number of cars I’ve found that I would love to have in the garage. Corvairs, Volvos, Alfas (hey this is just dreaming, right?), well, honestly, any European car I’ve never heard of, 60s US muscle cars, old trucks, I’d love to have any of them. Or maybe just one.
Oooh… that’s really cool.
I’m simultaneously horrified and intrigued.
My wants are pretty modest at this point. Someday I’ll be lusting after something like a halfway functional car, but for now? Might as well be dreaming about my own space shuttle. Someday after the student loans are paid off, I’ll start dreaming about an ultralight…
But still, I want one of these sproingy, convoluted metal sculptures. And most of these. Completely useless, butso cool.
And on the more practical front, I want a new cell phone. My old phone has a huge crack in the screen, and I’m due for my subsidized upgrade in a few months… Nothing particularly fancy… I just want a quality phone without the bells and whistles, but those either tend to be cheap and nasty, or designed for senior citizens or small children. Not sexy at all, and clunky enough to start being impractical. Why isn’t there something like an iphone nano?
Enough vicuna yarn to make a big cozy sweater.
When my Powerball numbers come in, it’s mine!
