I took a hydrocodone before bed, for the pain in my right ribcage. It helped for the pain, but I still kept waking up. And it’s wearing off, I may take another.
Tried to sleep by planning my day. First straighten the kitchen, as my Monday off project will be to roast a turkey. I do that once a year or so, to have meat in packages for different recipes. Then, when the bird is in, pay my bills. Then study my Biblical Greek homework
My mom has an eye procedure today, my middle sister will accompany her, but I may go over to help out afterwards.
I actually will try to lay down again for a while. I hate being up early on a day when I could snooze for as long as I wish.
I quite like being up early on a day off, means I feel like I have so much more “day” to enjoy. I couldn’t sleep last night, I was either too hot or too cold so it was a night of duvet on-duvet off, I had very odd bits of dreams as well, and I ended up getting into deeper sleep just as the alarm was due to go off. Usually I am awake before it beeps at me but today was one of those days when it did wake me up and I could happily have thrown it across the room.
On the plus side, I am at irk and getting stuff done. I should (fingers crossed) lose my most troublesome minion this week as he’s being moved to another team where he will officially become Somebody Else’s Problem. I should not smirk, but I am. Even better, I put beef and veggies in the slow cooker this morning so that will be bubbling away all day and means minimal cooking is required tonight when I get home. That means I just have to empty the bins and the recycling, do the cats’ litter trays and put all the rubbish out ready for the morning collection. And 'im indoors is working away from home again so I have a couple of hours of sofa time and the tv remote will be mine!
I woke around 3:30 and realized I hadn’t set the alarm. So I took care of that, and dozed on and off for the next 90 minutes. Not a good way to start the day.
On the other hand, because of the Fed holiday, traffic was really light so my commute was easy-peasy. I’m caffeinating now and trying to remember what I was doing on Firday afternoon so I can be productive again.
**FCD **is getting blood drawn today. Our dr’s office opens a bit after 7 and the phlebotomist gets there at 7:30. It’s first-come-first-served for labs, so I’m guessing he’ll get over there early. Better he than me, for certain.
And if the aliens are going to abduct the Prez-elect, they’re running out of time. Dammit.
It’s a holiday for me, too, but here I am, wide awake and posting. I have to look at my homework for my procedural law class and maybe meet some friends for lunch later today.
I wanged up my back last week, and it’s still kinda tender, but it’s feeling a lot better. I think I avoided a bigger problem.
Miss Rooney is still in her room. She has met all of the other cats and I left the door to the room open for a while, but she didn’t come out. I’m going to try it again today. I have to call the vet to arrange an appointment, but she seems pretty healthy. I’ll post a picture of her later, when I’m on my laptop.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 57 Amurrkin out and mostly cloudy with a predicted high of 77 and partly cloudy for the day. i suppose this means I could also say mostly N.O.S. :dubious: Today I shall give da cave it’s weekly defiltlhyfication (well, as much as I decide to do) and who knows what else. Dindin shall be beef enchilada casserole. OLÉ! Oh and I get to deal with Dell over the replacement of my new 'puter or a refund. Rah.
CupCakes here’s hopin’ your mom’s eye surgery goes ok.
Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy wants to be fed. Then I should purtify up a bit and begin defilthyfication I suppose.
Like rockin’, up way to early for an old retired guy. No idea why, I expect nappage will be part of the afternoon plan.
Lost and found story from Sunday. I have a rather nondescript lightweight jacket that is just right for the 30-60F range. I’ve had it for something between ‘a long time’ and ‘forever’, and it just fits, the way only an item of apparel does on rare occasions. It’s like a second skin and an old friend, and my go-to wear in the spring and fall. And when I went to get it to go to dinner on Sunday, it was gone.
Since I don’t believe in Poltergeist and I couldn’t see a crook breaking into my house to only steal a 20-year old jacket, I began retracing my steps from Saturday, and once I was sure it wasn’t in the house, I went back to the gyms where I had coached and reffed indoor soccer on Saturday, and sure enough, in the second gym, there it was, still laying in the same spot I left it. It now sits in it’s accustomed place and stands ready to be worn again.
And that was as exciting as the weekend got. Except for the end of the Dallas-Green Bay game…
I got up early to go to Boot Camp at the gym. Later today I have to go to the dentist (there are a couple of spots on my lower lip that haven’t cleared up) and take the pup to the vet (he’s drinking a lot of water and can’t always put weight on his left front paw.
After that, I plan to make banana nut bread, cookies, knit, and work on my story.
So I was trying to make the best of a day off and do some housework. I went upstairs to get my flip-flops and found Miss Rooney exploring my bedroom. She’s now luxuriating on my bed, making it difficult to strip the bed. Reed and Bethany are put out because that’s where they sleep.
Here is a picture of Rooney from when she first got here. She’s quite the looker!
Lunch is almost over. I shall finally make N.O.T. soup for tonight’s supper. **FCD **isn’t feeling well and it’s chilly enough to make soup a good meal. It’s a quick and easy meal, too - the most tedious part is peeling the spuds, and I only need 6 or 7 - not too bad.
I may stop for some sour cream on the way home. In fact, I should.
Totally freaking forgot there was a holiday. I’m the only dumbass who pulled the garbage cans out last night. I’ll have to do the drag of shame later on when I head out.
Starting tomorrow I’m on a crew that has to preset all the inauguration live locations for our coverage Friday. That’ll be loads of fun. I’ve had to submit to background checks just to be allowed to do that, much less work inside the perimeter on Friday.
It’s a gloomy 34 degrees outside today, but it’s going up into the 50s for the rest of the week.
I overslept, but that might be a good thing, maybe I’ll make it through the day without a nap.
It’s been such a fun morning here.
I didn’t know the dog had peed on the rug in the kitchen. Sah-son had cleaned it up and soaked the spot in Nature’s Miracle. I stepped in the NM and then onto the hardwood floor and almost fell on my ass because wet feet and hardwood floors don’t mix.
Then Sah-son got up, went out into the kitchen, came back and starting going YUK! oh YUUUUUUUKKKKKKKK! Cat killed a mouse and left a little pile of guts on the floor, and Sah-son stepped on them. I didn’t see it because there are two doorways between the kitchen and living room and I never use that door way.
Cute little kitty **Rockin’ **, she looks so sweet.
So happy to be off today, I had a stomach bug roll through me like a freight train Saturday night into yesterday afternoon. I got up with my husband this morning, he’s working today and then went back to bed until about 8:30. I’ve gotten caught up on some things around the house and now I am chillin’. I’m wiped.
The turkey is in the oven and the house is starting to smell good. I have the giblets, the neck, the excess fat and some carrots and onions simmering to be the start of a broth. When the turkey is done, and the carcass is stripped, the bones and scraps will go in and I’ll gradually reduce the stock. I make pretty good stock, if I do say so myself. I have the patience to simmer it down gradually, WAY down, and I get strong flavor for gravy tomorrow.
Ya’ll can have some tomorrow night, if you can get to Kansas!
