I met with the VP - between him and the mucky-muck last week, I heard things that I was quite surprised to have revealed to me, considering how low on the totem pole I am. I was aware of them because of my spousal unit, but I have never had people that high up in the chain be so blunt about the problems with a manager. Anyway, he gave me a good overview of what’s going on as far as work load and who’ll be feeding me work, so that’s good.
Much-needed lunch break. Still no computer for n00b. Nor has the n00b shown up yet. Not my circus, etc.
Well, informal type interview was very promising; it’s still a café job, but a little independent one, not a big chain, it all seemed really friendly, and the hours are great. The manager said he’d need to check with his wife, but I was pretty much just what they were looking for, and finished up with “Well, hopefully see you next week then!”
He’ll let me know tomorrow… fingers, toeses, tongue, eyes and nose hairs crossed!
On the downside, I’ve just had waaaaay too much caffeine because I caffeinated this morning to mynusual standard, got to the café early and bought a cola next door 'cos I was thirsty and they sold my favourite, then wound up making and drinking a coffee in the interview, so nap time ain’t happening! Bouncing off walls, however, is a distinct possibility.
My news director is very open about issues when you talk with him - a privilege known only by those who can walk away from a job at any time (he can retire easily should he wish to).
I am forcing myself to go to sleep earlier to get better rest. It’s hard because I like staying up late. I was exhausted yesterday and this morning due to the extra double shift Saturday for the opening of the new museum in DC. Quite the event.
Getting used to how this home handles the weather. I found that because of the tree canopy it didn’t get that hot during the summer. Now with the cooler temps the house is holding a natural 69 degrees F (20.5 C) without any furnace input. It appears to be well insulated but I have identified some spots in the basement that need reinforcement. Also I think a dehumidifier may be in order if the natural humidity doesn’t fall.
Nava if you end up anywhere near I will be in on a Mumpfest too.
Sari you can’t pick your family, nor can you control their actions. Wouldn’t worry about it.
Happy Monday. Back to fighting on the football forums.
The weather turned during the night. It’s sunny, breezy, and maybe 68. PERFECT WEATHER. Now I can sleep with the windows open and the fan on. I have no problem sleeping because I take an anti-anxiety pill before bed time and it makes my mind stop whirring. And my kitteh now sleeps an arm length away instead of at the foot of the bed. When I wake up during the night I reach out and pet her, and she goes “murf.”
Not even for a Scooby Snack? Nuts, iffn your nose hair is long enough to cross you may want to try trimming is before the next interview. Just sayin’. :o
Stuff (old t-shirts, post cards, trinkets) for the swap meet, Halloween decorations, costumes, clothes for all kinds of weather – all of which can happen the same day, candy to pass out (like Boogers and Gummy Bones), and a lot of horse liniment for after we beat ourselves senseless on the rides for two straight day. Not being able to make any HalloFun Weekends this year this ends things until they open in the Spring; we plan on some serious silly!
Nava, although it’s a few hours away, I could do a midsouth Atlantic Mumpfest somethere in Virginia or the Carolinas if you cross for a visit.
Baker, growing up, we truck farmed and grew a couple of acres of banana squash. Most of the “pumpkin” pies Mom made were actually banana squash pies for years. Other than that, they’ll work for most recipes calling for acorn, Hubbard or butternut squash.
Fingers crossed for your job interview results, nuts!
There’s a stray cat who’s been hanging around the neighborhood for quite a long time; have not been able to locate an owner, so I decided to try adopting him. Lured him into the utility room last night; first thing this morning, loaded him into the traveling crate and headed off for the vet’s. “Pete” expressed his displeasure by peeing in the crate. Car now smells like tomcat urine.
Made it to the vet’s office with reeking crate. “Pete” actually pretty docile during exam. Vet suggests leaving him behind so they can run tests, give shots, and neuter him.
After running a couple of errands, I arrive home and find a message on answering machine. Seems Pete has tested positive for feline aids.
Rather sad about that. I’ve become rather fond of the little fellow. I’m not seeing much option but having him put down. Can’t risk endangering the health of my own cats, plus others in the neighborhood.
Haven’t talked to the vet, she’s left office for a time, so will try contacting her later today.
All is well with my heating, AC, and water heater. As a bonus, he saw a mouse come in while he was working and let me know where. After he left, Sah-son headed down with steel wool and a can of Great Stuff for Pests. There was a lot of Great Stuff left over, I finally got him to fill the hole that he filled before only to have the squirrels make it bigger.
It’s a cloudy, chilly day up here, had to turn the fan off. I’ll need a light jacket if I go outside.
MetalMouse - you don’t know how often I wish I had moved further away. 2Gig - I know, I usually try to stay out of the crap. I always kept my mouth shut, but I can’t do it anymore. and I swear if one more person tells me I should make up with the HFH and I’ll regret it if I don’t, I think I will lose it. It pisses me off that anybody even knows, because I never said anything in the family.
Good Luck Nuts
The new kid seems nice. He graduated in May and this is his first engineering job. He just interviewed last week and immediately accepted the offer and started today. He told me he’s living at home till he pays down his college loans - I’m properly impressed - a responsible young man. He’s got zero experience since he opted to do summer school, rather than take an internship. And he’s never used CREO, but he has used Inventor, so he knows a bit about parametric modeling.
Unfortunately, he’s dealing with a rather nasty cold right now, and I got to listen to him cough and sniffle all afternoon. If he infects me, I’ll have to kick his whippersnapper butt!!
Haven’t heard from **FCD **today - I expect he’ll call soon. At least I hope he will. Meanwhile, I need to figure out what to do for supper. I hate cooking for one.
FIV isn’t a death sentence, and it is possible to have a cat who is FIV positive with negative cats. Talk to the vet before you decide to euthanize to see if there’s a way to make it work.
Blurf. Irk is going better, so the job hunt may be postponed for a bit.
I boiled a dozen eggs - that’ll make for easy breakfasts-to-go. And I had some pasta-n-peas for supper, with leftovers for tomorrow’s lunch.
Still waiting for my sweetie to call - I hope he didn’t decide to drive home to surprise me - he’ll be exhausted! If I haven’t heard from him in 30 minutes or so, I’ll call - they’ll be done dinner by then.
Dishwasher is washing. Chillage has begun. I may hit the rack early tonight - anything to avoid the debate. ugh.
Howdy Y’all! I have been somewhat productive today. Da cave is all cleanded. Go Me! Dindin was really good. I even got the “just like supper at granny’s” compliment. High praise!
Nuts appropriate/inappropriate appendages crossed re the job.
Doc sorry about the kitty. You do get major karma points for tryin’ to take care of him.
Sari when I read stuff like you write about your family, I am ever so thankful for my mostly drama free family. One cousin attempts to stir up drama but everybody ignores her so nuttin’ ever comes of it all.
I did chat with the vet a bit earlier. She volunteered to look for a home for Pete via Facebook postings and other methods. We worked out a deal: I pay for neutering and vaccinations, she’ll board him for free. So, hope he finds a good home.
To be honest, I wasn’t sure things would work out if I kept him. My cats are litter mates who are very closely bonded; they’ve been tolerating him outside, but may not accept him indoors.
